Chapter 233 - 150: The Uniqueness of the Morning Star Tier
Chapter 233: Chapter 150: The Uniqueness of the Morning Star Tier
“Since the affinities are similar, for a Tier Four Upper profession, there’s the Law Enforcer. It covers both areas, and it’s not too difficult.”
Su Chen made a mental note. Sang Hanhai continued, “The Physical Side is simpler. The promotion for Gale and Thunder Envoy is the Tier Four Upper profession: Calamity Walker.”
Law Enforcer. Calamity Walker. Su Chen planned to look them up as soon as he got back to the Judicial Court.
After Sang Hanhai finished speaking, Su Chen asked with an expectant look, “Once I advance to Tier Four, will I be able to see that Stone Slab?”
“The Stone Slab?” Sang Hanhai was taken aback for a moment before he broke into a laugh. “Eating from your bowl while eyeing what’s in the pot. You’re still fixated on that, huh?”
Su Chen didn’t shy away. “You were so mysterious about it back then. It’s been making me itch with curiosity.”
Sang Hanhai smiled. He wasn’t surprised at all that Su Chen was still fixated on it.
Su Chen looked genuinely curious. “Come on, we’re all on the same side here. Just tell me a little more.”
Sang Hanhai considered it for a moment. “How about this? Come with me to meet someone. He knows more about it than I do.”
“Who?” Su Chen asked, though he already had a suspicion.
Sang Hanhai uttered a name. “My senior brother, Pu Zhenghong.”
…
“Is there anything I should be aware of when meeting this senior brother of yours?”
Su Chen asked as he followed Sang Hanhai deeper into the Translation Department, where the passing staff members became increasingly sparse.
“Not really. My senior brother is famously amiable,” Sang Hanhai said, then added, “Just one thing: don’t mention Xia Hanshi.”
“Alright.” Su Chen faltered for a second, then nodded in resignation.
He soon saw a grove of interwoven trees. As they walked along a winding path, dappled spots of light fell upon the ground, shimmering like shattered gold.
Arriving at a wooden house in the central area, Sang Hanhai knocked on the door and, without waiting for a response, led Su Chen inside.
When they reached a door that looked like it led to a study, he said softly, “Senior Brother, I’ve brought him.”
“Come in.” An aged voice came from within. Sang Hanhai gestured for him to push the door open and enter, but he didn’t follow.
The moment he stepped inside, Su Chen saw an old man with a white beard and white hair sitting before a desk.
This must be the last man from the photograph Sang Hanhai had shown him earlier, the only one he hadn’t yet met.
’He’s so old…’ Su Chen thought to himself. ’Chong Jingtian looks middle-aged, and Old Xia looks a bit older than him in comparison.’
But this Pu Zhenghong looked like he was at death’s door.
“Elder Pu…” he said respectfully. He couldn’t help but glance at the Holy Word Stone in Pu Zhenghong’s hand, noticing that it was completely blank.
“Sit.” Pu Zhenghong was in the middle of inscribing something on the stone and didn’t even look up as he told Su Chen to sit down.
“Do you know what Divine Language is?” Pu Zhenghong asked calmly.
“Uh…” Su Chen recalled that Sang Hanhai had mentioned something about Divine Language. He said tentatively, “The language of Divine Spirits? It seems to be what’s inscribed on the Holy Word Stones.”
“Correct… Divine Language is difficult.” Pu Zhenghong continued his work, but still no marks appeared on the Holy Word Stone. “Xia Hanshi sent you.”
Su Chen’s eyelid twitched. ’Didn’t he say not to mention Xia Hanshi?’
Pu Zhenghong, Carving Pen in hand, didn’t stop moving. “He still hasn’t given up. The previous three he sent… it was useless for them to see it. They entered the ruins and never came out.”
“Although you have an Ink Jade Talent, it’s nowhere near enough to qualify.”
“Qualify? Qualify for what?” Su Chen asked sharply.
Pu Zhenghong’s movements paused. His white eyebrows twitched as he said with dissatisfaction, “Has he gotten so lazy that he can’t even be bothered to explain anything anymore?”
Su Chen gave an awkward smile.
“The Stone Slab records some of the requirements for a Morning Star Tier profession,” Pu Zhenghong snorted. “It was also the profession of the previous master of those ruins.”
’So that’s how it is,’ Su Chen realized. He then heard Pu Zhenghong continue:
“If you enter the ruins without gaining its recognition, your chances of survival are next to none.”
“Recognition?” Su Chen latched onto the keyword again. That High Priest had mentioned it too. “What does that mean?”
Pu Zhenghong explained, “Professions of this tier have their own spirituality. Without its recognition, it’s practically impossible to assume the profession.”
“No recognition, no profession…” Su Chen was quite surprised.
’Then what does the profession information captured by my panel mean? Does that count as being recognized?’
’Or does it mean that the professions on my panel have no connection to the Professional Spirituality of the outside world?’
’Or perhaps, among the remaining unrevealed requirements, is gaining recognition one of them?’
’This is getting ridiculous,’ Su Chen muttered to himself, then asked, “But can a single, broken Stone Slab truly represent that Morning Star Tier profession?”
“Of course it can’t. The Stone Slab isn’t what’s important, the information is…” Pu Zhenghong shook his head, emphasizing, “Spirituality is omnipresent. Simply knowing the profession’s information means you have received its recognition.”
Su Chen was baffled. He glanced at his panel again and couldn’t help but ask:
“Then what are the requirements to gain recognition? Is it Talent?”
“Talent is merely the threshold.” Pu Zhenghong shook his head, his carving motions stopping. “Who knows how one gains recognition? It could be luck, or it could be fate.”
“That’s pretty out there.” Su Chen was surprised they were even bringing fate into it.
After thinking for a moment, Su Chen asked, “Then, in your opinion, do I have a chance of gaining its recognition?”
Hearing this question, Pu Zhenghong finally lifted his head for the first time and looked at Su Chen.
The two just stared at each other for a good while. Su Chen, for his part, didn’t feel awkward at all.
’So thick-skinned…’ Pu Zhenghong put down the items in his hand and said gently, “An Ink Jade Talent certainly warrants that level of confidence, but it is still not enough.”
“It’s not even enough to reach the threshold,” he added.
’That’s harsh…’ Su Chen understood perfectly well. The first requirement to become a Great Venerable was a Profound Purple Talent.
According to the Judicial Court’s classifications, above Ink Jade was Scarlet, and above Scarlet was Profound Purple.
But then he recalled that the Black Tuo High Priest, who had been a parasite inside Wei Yinsuo, had said the Yuan Capital People’s objective was to gain the Great Venerable’s recognition. ’Do they have people with Profound Purple Talent?’
“Morning Star Tier professions possess a unique trait: as long as the one who holds the profession lives, no one can be the second to assume it,” Pu Zhenghong continued.
“Being recognized by it only gives you a chance to assume the profession. Only the Chosen One is a sure thing. But as for being chosen…”
Without finishing his sentence, Pu Zhenghong couldn’t help but shake his head. “It’s harder than ascending to the heavens.”
“Recognition… being chosen? It’s this complicated…” Su Chen truly hadn’t expected this, not to mention the whole “uniqueness” aspect.
“It’s not that complicated, really. To put it simply, it all comes down to whether it takes a liking to you. It’s said that the Chosen One also receives the profession’s favor, which is different from those who are merely recognized.”
Pu Zhenghong focused on studying the Holy Word Stone in his hand. “Don’t worry, they’ll definitely let you see it when you reach Tier Four. Not that it’ll do you any good.”
’Sounds like you’re taking your anger out on me,’ Su Chen thought, then asked, “Can the status of the Chosen One be changed?”
“Sure it can. Kill the current one, and the position opens up,” Pu Zhenghong replied casually, continuing, “You have a kind of talent for Holy Word Stones that’s extremely rare. Xiao Sang probably thought you could use it to learn the information on the Stone Slab directly.”
“In truth, the key isn’t the information itself, but whether its spirituality recognizes you.”
“However, a talent like yours might just work on the Divine Language,” Pu Zhenghong said, his eyes crinkling into a smile.
With a wooden expression, Su Chen listened to him rattle off a long string of theories about Divine Language. It was like listening to gibberish; it went in one ear and out the other, and he didn’t understand a single word.
Finally, unable to take any more, he used the excuse of needing the bathroom to escape.
“A pity…” Pu Zhenghong sighed. Su Chen was clearly not interested in Divine Language, and it wasn’t something that could be forced.
“An Ink Jade Talent… he has a chance to become a Tier Eight Professional. But as for gaining recognition…” His eyes flickered, and he shook his head. “There’s not much hope.”
