Chapter 2924: Chapter 975: Murphy’s Fury—Dark and Profound

The meeting between Murphy and the Steam Lords went much smoother than expected.

The elderly Halfling Lords, upon hearing that the Guardian of Creation faction’s Wolf People were coming to assist, immediately expressed their gratitude and swiftly granted permission.

This quick decision-making was quite inconsistent with the Steam Lords’ traditionally overly cautious style, indicating just how dire the situation at Summer Port had become, leaving these stubborn Halflings with little time for further considerations.

Right now, they only want reinforcements!

The more reinforcements the better; as for who they are, it doesn’t matter.

To quote an old saying, as long as they can hold Summer Port, as many troops as needed, the Steam Lord can provide!

This "reasonableness" under pressure saved Murphy some persuasion, and after he bade farewell to Captain Paula, instructing her to return to Transylvania promptly to prepare for the transport of the second batch of reinforcements, he rushed to Lord Paryen’s position at the fastest speed.

The Palano Knight personally took him to visit the Lord. This beauty-seeking knight probed with various reasons on the way, but he clearly wasn’t adept at this form of conversation, and Murphy deflected all inquiries with various excuses.

It’s not that Murphy didn’t want to tell Palano; he absolutely trusted the Rose Knight’s confidentiality, but the issue was too large, and Palano, as a Golden One, wouldn’t even cause a ripple if thrown in.

And in that small, blood-scented room, Murphy met the Lord and the blood-stained Holy Spear beside him.

Murphy wrinkled his nose, his vampire sensitivity to blood revealing that a "minor conflict" had just occurred here, so he cautiously asked:

"Is he... still alive?"

"Of course, I just had a bit of theoretical dispute with him, asked some questions, and ultimately reached a difficult reconciliation. While the process was not too pleasant, it didn’t come to the point of death yet."

Expressionlessly, the Lord handed a blood-stained diary to Murphy, saying:

"Keep it on you and take a look if you want. Old Edward recorded a millennium’s worth of matters in it, and after the war here ends, I’ll take him to the Swamp Forbidden Area for candidate binding."

"Is he really okay?"

As Murphy took the diary, he asked a question, the Lord shook his head and said:

"It’s quite a problem!

But not the kind we worry about, he stubbornly believes that Constantius is still alive, but... I can’t convince him to accept reality.

I found that not being able to forget isn’t a blessing for Old Edward.

He remembers everything, hence he’s never really moved on from that day’s disaster.

To him, the past thousand years were merely spent in solitary waiting for a reunion, with all his energy poured into it, aside from fulfilling his duties as Duke Wolfsbane, day after day filled with hope, day after day anticipating some moment when Constantius would suddenly leap out of hiding to surprise him.

He’s gone mad, Murphy.

Crazy to the bone, incurable, so I suggest you or anyone else should avoid provoking him over this... don’t court death."

"But... isn’t there a possibility that Duke Constantin is indeed still alive in some form?"

Murphy glanced at the diary in his hand, softly asking:

"If there wasn’t even a glimmer of hope, Edward, no matter how infatuated, wouldn’t have persisted for a millennium, right? Perhaps he really has noticed some details, but just can’t tell you due to certain reasons? Moreover, this is a hidden danger!

If he is so deeply fixated, what if someone exploits it..."

"Then they would have to suffer Old Edward’s immense rage, for he is always skillful in instilling fear, and as for Constantius and his affairs... it’s too complicated, even I am daunted."

The Lord waved his hand, unwilling to continue this unpleasant topic, which belonged to the deep-seated animosities of the ancients, having been dragged on for a millennium, and the Lord had no intension of dragging Murphy, a "new generation vampire", into such terrible grudges.

He said in a brief tone:

"I’ll continue to monitor this matter. As previously mentioned, don’t get too involved! Edward’s mental state isn’t very healthy. If you block his path, I’m afraid he might really attack you recklessly.

Nevertheless, from Edward’s diary, one can confirm one thing, the Department of Mystery’s inheritance indeed survives. Despite being relentlessly hunted down by Edward’s various means over the millennium, a small clique survived.

I suspect these guys are related to the creation of Twilight.

If you get a chance, focus on the remaining individuals on that list."

"Hmm."

Murphy nodded. He put the diary in his bag and solemnly said:

"But actually, we have a more direct method."

The Vampire Lord took the "Book of Ten Thousand Curses" from the psychic package and slapped it on the table, saying:

"We could directly ask Verdia!

It was also a direct participant back then, maybe we can uncover some secrets from its mouth. But I guess it wouldn’t tell us easily, so I need to ask in advance, do you know where Vidia’s captive cage is?"

"Aurora knows."

Lord Paryen looked at that book.

His face full of disgust.

In the workplace a thousand years ago, Senator Vidia was also one of those he hated the most, and if possible, he would not want to have any contact with this guy again.
