Chapter 689 - 461: Yaoyao Is a Little Perverted

At the mere mention of piano lessons, Jiangg Yao shuddered. She had been lying on the soft bed, but now she wished she could scramble into her wheelchair and escape the room.

Watching Jiangg Ning immediately get ready to tidy the desk sent a chill down her spine.

For a homebody like her, spending free time playing games was the ultimate truth. If she really had to practice piano every morning and night, she might as well be dead.

’We’re from two completely different worlds. I have to get away from this wretched room,’ Jiangg Yao thought.

"I want to go to the room next door. Yuan, carry me."

Going from "young master" to "servant," Chen Yuan was noncommittal. He shrugged, turned, and scooped her up in the same princess carry he’d used to bring her in.

The two of them arrived in the room next door.

Since the rooms were roughly the same size, there wasn’t much to choose between them. The only difference was that Ningning’s room had an extra window.

"You’re not really going to study with my sister later, are you? Burning the midnight oil together?" Jiangg Yao asked, exasperated.

"Not right now, of course. It’ll have to be after dinner. Since she’s the one who asked..."

"Then what about playing games with me?"

"Games first, then studying. Keeping my fiancée company is a little more important than keeping a girlfriend company." For once, Chen Yuan had said something Yaoyao loved to hear.

"Hmph... Hmph!"

Jiangg Yao tried to keep a straight face for a moment, but the corners of her mouth curled up, and she let out a few giggles.

"You do have a way with words."

Even though she knew he was lying, Yaoyao couldn’t help but feel happy. She knew perfectly well how much Chen Yuan liked Ningning, but as long as her own share of his affection remained secure, Jiangg Yao was content.

She wasn’t a very greedy girl.

...

At dinnertime, the meal provided by the medical center consisted of a stew, two light stir-fried dishes, and congee.

Outside, the evening sky gradually darkened, and in the spacious courtyard, lamps began to light up one by one.

Chen Yuan wasn’t picky about food. He was preoccupied with other matters as he ate, glancing at Ningning, who ate slowly and deliberately, and then at Yaoyao, who had little appetite and was just poking at her food with a spoon.

Chen Yuan cleared his throat.

"I have something I want to talk about."

Instantly, both sisters looked up at him.

"Now that the debt issue is more or less resolved, all that’s left is to negotiate with the investors and discuss withdrawing the lawsuit. Since things are settling down, I want to talk about the engagement arrangements."

Jiangg Ning’s movements faltered.

"You two can discuss it yourselves. I don’t have an opinion on the matter." She avoided looking at Chen Yuan, focusing on sipping her soup in small spoonfuls.

"The relationship between the three of us is so... volatile. There’s no way I can explain it to my family. So, to stick to my original story, the engagement is with... both of you. Ningning, don’t pressure me to spell it out. The main issue is that you haven’t even made up your mind yet. Why don’t we just act as if I’m engaged to both of you for now? If you regret it down the line, it won’t be too late for me to explain things then."

"Is that appropriate?"

"There’s nothing inappropriate about it. We’re young, and we lack worldly experience. We should listen to our elders’ opinions. Be it your mother or my parents... their opinions are different from ours. Ningning, didn’t you yourself say this is a union of two families?"

Jiangg Ning was silent for a moment.

"You always have an answer for everything..." She turned her head away, seemingly unwilling to listen to any more of his reasoning.

"Next week, come to Kyoto with me. Meet my dad, have a meal together. It was his idea."

At his words, the two sisters’ expressions diverged.

The sisters had a very good impression of Chen Yuan’s adoptive parents from their last meeting. They seemed like a kind and approachable couple, not at all old-fashioned. This was especially true for Mrs. Chen; the affection for the two of them in her eyes was completely genuine, as if she were seeing her own daughters.

But Chen Yuan’s biological father, Jiang Zhengfeng... He was such a major entrepreneur, and Chen Yuan rarely ever mentioned him.

It went without saying, then, that this meeting would be a thorough evaluation of their suitability as daughters-in-law for the Jiang Family.

It was bound to be extremely formal.

"Meet him next week? My injuries haven’t even healed. That doesn’t seem right..." Jiangg Yao said nervously.

"It’s fine. I’ll explain it to him."

Jiangg Ning looked at Chen Yuan, recalling the time she had seen Jiang Zhengfeng at that banquet.

Well-known entrepreneurs all had a certain aura—the humble, seasoned, and unshakable demeanor of a successful person. It wasn’t that their presence was sharp, but it exerted an invisible pressure on those around them.

At the thought, Jiangg Ning unconsciously clutched the hem of her clothes.

She had imagined this day would come ever since she’d learned of Chen Yuan’s true identity.

This relationship wasn’t a simple matter of love leading to marriage, where only mutual affection mattered. Given Chen Yuan’s status as an only son and sole heir, the woman he married would have to be intelligent and perceptive, yet not scheming. Her family background couldn’t be too modest, either. At the very minimum, she had to be a capable and supportive partner. That was likely the lowest bar.

Even for their own Jiangg Family, which was upper-middle-class, their mother, Jiangg Ruxue, had been extremely selective and insistent on finding a son-in-law of equal social standing. Chen Yuan’s family would be on another level entirely.

The only thing that gave her some comfort was that Chen Yuan was a dependable guy.

He wouldn’t easily give up on someone he liked just because his family disapproved.

That way, both she and Yaoyao could at least feel a bit more at ease.

"Fine, we’ll meet him. This day was bound to come sooner or later." Jiangg Ning nodded, making the decision for Yaoyao.

"Alright, then," Chen Yuan said with a smile. "I’ll let my dad know."

"Can I ask you something?"

"Go ahead, Ningning."

"This business about you wanting to marry both me and Yaoyao... have you told your biological father? What’s his opinion on it?"
