A chance encounter should have been a happy occasion, but right now, Jiangg Ning’s mind was a tangled mess.

She was a little angry. There was no doubt about it—Chen had deceived her. His so-called part-time job was a lie. They had been dating for a while now, but he had never once revealed the name of his company or the nature of his daily work.

At first, Jiangg Ning figured he didn’t talk about it because it wasn’t a great job. After all, what large company would hire a freshman who hadn’t even graduated yet? He had zero work experience. They were probably just using Chen Yuan as cheap labor.

It wasn’t something to brag about, but Chen Yuan was desperate to have a job, to prove himself and show the two sisters his ambitious side.

That’s what Jiangg Ning had assumed.

That was why she never pressed Chen Yuan to come clean.

The three of them had a tacit understanding, maintaining a delicate balance where no one questioned anyone else.

But Jiangg Ning knew the truth now. She bit her lip, feeling a little resentful. ’The reality wasn’t at all what I thought!’

Seeing Chen looking so sharp and well-dressed, Jiangg Ning almost didn’t dare to acknowledge him. He suddenly felt like a stranger, and yet, she could never mistake that face. That was her Chen.

The thought lasted only for a second. Jiangg Ning pinched her thigh, quickly banishing the absurd notion from her mind.

His aura felt a bit unfamiliar, but Jiangg Ning knew the man in that room was Chen Yuan. He was one of a kind.

Jiangg Ning’s first instinct was to get up and make a quiet escape. She really didn’t want to be interviewed by Chen Yuan...

Their roles had always been crystal clear. In their relationship, Jiangg Ning had willingly taken on the role of caretaker, while Chen Yuan and Jiangg Yao usually acted like clueless children at home. Who could accept their little boyfriend, who was just clinging to her and acting cute that very morning, suddenly transforming into her boss?

And then have him grill her with questions during the interview.

The mere thought of it was so cringeworthy she felt her toes were about to dig a hole straight through the floor.

This reversal of roles would make both of them uncomfortable.

She certainly couldn’t treat Chen Yuan the way she did at home. But acting polite and respectful would be far too awkward.

Jiangg Ning lowered her head slightly. No one could clearly see the expression on her face, and no one could possibly know about the countless jumbled thoughts racing through her mind.

’Let’s just go... I’ll ask him about it back home.’

A little voice in her head kept urging her.

’No!’

Jiangg Ning clenched her fists.

More than avoiding the embarrassment, what she really wanted was to appear in front of Chen Yuan and see his reaction. She needed to know why he hadn’t told her about his "part-time job."

She was bursting with questions and desperate for answers.

Just then, the person supervising the interviews knocked on the door. "The interviews are about to begin. Please have your resumes ready. Once inside, wait for the interviewer to ask you questions. Please keep your voices down in the hallway. When I call your name, you may go in."

The crowd, which had been murmuring quietly, instantly fell silent.

Every one of them stared nervously at the closed door, hoping the interview wouldn’t be too hard and that they would make a good impression.

Everyone wanted a high-paying job.

Among them were young people new to the city, middle-aged individuals hoping to find work again after leaving a previous job, and of course, a fair number who were simply trying their luck. Getting this job meant their car and mortgage payments were covered. It meant their livelihood was secure. It meant their wives and children could stop worrying. It meant they could hold their heads high when people asked what they did.

But passing? That was easier said than done.

"First, Liang Xiangjie." The interview supervisor’s voice called out.

From the long row of candidates, a man with a square jaw and an honest face stood up. He was of average height, wore black-framed glasses, and rose to his feet timidly, clutching a briefcase.

Everyone’s eyes followed his every move, as if they were all nervous right along with him.

Jiangg Ning, on the other hand, had completely stopped caring about the interview. At this point, she even wanted to send Chen Yuan a message to ask him what was going on.

’Was the part-time job a lie?’

’Or did he somehow become a boss after just one month of part-time work?’

The latter was obviously impossible.

Jiangg Ning resolved to get to the bottom of it. If she went home without any answers, she knew she wouldn’t be able to focus on anything else. She couldn’t be at ease until Chen Yuan told her the truth.

Sitting calmly amongst the other candidates, lost in thought, Jiangg Ning had a feeling she was about to uncover all of Chen’s secrets... just like how the truth about her and her twin sister had come out.

As the supervisor called out one name after another, people went in and others left.

Each interview lasted about five minutes, making the process highly efficient.

「Inside the interview room.」

Chen Yuan rested his chin on his hand, flipping through one resume after another. In truth, he was getting a little sleepy, but he couldn’t very well yawn in front of so many people. All he could do was force his eyes open, looking completely listless.

Little did Chen Yuan know, something was about to happen that would jolt him wide awake...

Suddenly, the supervisor’s voice rang out again. A hush fell over the hallway. The remaining candidates looked left and right, wondering who Jiangg Ning was, but for a long moment, no one stood up. After half a minute...
