My milf rebate system: starting with my best friends mother
Chapter 65: Fusion trial
Night Watch took the hall. Alfred took the cameras. The suite took the three of them.
Nobody slept at the sensible time.
Stephanie made coffee nobody wanted. Caroline checked the peephole every twelve minutes like a soldier who refused a uniform. Logan sat with his balance open and hated how the zeros looked like a video game while men with jackets stood in the world.
At 1:14 a.m. Brandon texted Caroline.
Mom. Please just tell me you are not with him. Andrew is telling people Paul is going to pull Stephanie out of a hotel. I am scared in a way that is not campus scared.
Caroline showed Logan the screen. Her eyes were wet and angry about being wet.
She typed:
I am safe. I am with another woman Paul already threatened. I will call at 7. Do not come downtown.
She did not mention Logan. The omission was a gift and a debt.
Stephanie saw the text over her shoulder.
"Your son loves you. Mine sent my husband a picture of a fruit bowl."
"Sons are not a competition," Caroline said. Then, quieter, "I would still kill for mine."
"So would I. That is the tragedy."
They looked at each other long enough that Logan felt like furniture. Then Stephanie’s gaze moved to him.
"The system wants us in this room until dawn. I can feel you not saying it."
He said it.
Caroline’s reaction was a short laugh.
"Of course it does. Even your magic app is a pervert."
"It is offering a fusion trial. I do not know what it does. I know Paul is outside the idea of this building and if we split we are easier to lift."
Stephanie sat on the couch and patted the cushion beside her, not looking at either of them.
"Then we stay. If your app wants a circus, it can wait until I decide I am not a prize."
They stayed.
At 2:03 Stephanie’s head found Logan’s shoulder. At 2:11 Caroline took his other side because leaving that space empty felt like losing. It was not a threesome. It was three people refusing to be extracted. Logan felt both of them breathe. He felt the system tick minutes like coins.
At 3:40 Stephanie turned her face into his throat.
"If I die in a suite because I let a student into my marriage, I will be furious."
"You are not dying in a suite."
Caroline’s hand settled on his knee, possessive even in exhaustion.
"If you get my son hurt, I will not need Paul to ruin you."
"I know."
Dawn came as a pale line on glass.
The system did not arrive with fireworks. It arrived like a receipt.
[Dawn condition met]
[Fusion trial available]
[Effect preview: when host spends on both bound targets in a single verified action, multipliers add instead of splitting for that action]
[One-time window: 6 hours]
[Risk: both targets become visible to each other on host’s emotional map. Jealousy events deal real attraction damage.]
Logan showed them the preview because hiding it now would be another kind of theft.
Stephanie read it twice.
"Add instead of split. So if you spend five thousand on something that is for both of us, you get fifteen times back. Eleven and four."
"Yes."
Caroline rubbed her eyes.
"Spend it on leaving this city for a day. Not on jewelry. I do not want a necklace from a war."
Stephanie nodded, unexpected agreement.
"A legal day. A car. A place that is not Hydra and not your apartment. Paul cannot wellness-check a moving vehicle he cannot name."
Logan booked it while they watched. A licensed driver. A lakeside boutique hotel two hours out, two adjoining rooms, her names on the folio, his card in the back end.
Five thousand two hundred.
[Fusion spend recognized]
[Combined multiplier: 15x]
[Rebate: $78,000]
[Host liquid exceeds $160,000]
[New rank threshold approaching: Rebate Broker → Private Patron]
The officers knocked at 6:10 with coffee and a report.
No gray shirts since midnight. Paul’s car had sat three blocks south until 4:55, then left. Andrew had posted and deleted three times. Evelyn had not posted at all.
Stephanie stood and the robe made her look like a woman who had survived a night instead of a woman who had been kept.
"We leave separately," she said. "Caroline with the first car. Me with the second. Logan last. If we walk out like a family Paul built the photo himself."
Caroline picked up her bag, stopped in front of Logan, and kissed the corner of his mouth where Stephanie could see it and choose not to make it a war.
"Adjoining rooms," she said. "Not one bed you can hide in. I meant that."
After she left, Stephanie held Logan’s jaw.
"I still have last night in my body," she said. "Do not think a car ride washes that out. When the door of that hotel closes I am going to remember you told me to take a ring off in a boardroom. I will either slap you or take you to the floor. I have not decided."
She went out in sunglasses like a director, not a runaway.
Logan waited seven minutes, then took the service lift.
In the basement ramp his Clean Alibi expired with a soft click only he could hear.
His real pin lit up on any cheap tracker Andrew still had the talent to buy.
A text landed from Andrew before Logan reached the street.
I know about the lake. Dad knows about the lake. You took two mothers out of town like a tourist.
Under it, a photo taken from a high window.
Caroline getting into the first car.
Time stamp: four minutes ago.
Andrew was already closer than the lake.
