Chapter 146: Chapter 112: Beating Them at Their Own Game, New Deal, Massive Gains

"Here is one thousand taels!" After fumbling around for a moment, Su Chen took out one thousand taels in silver notes from his breast pocket and handed them over. The other party didn’t stand on ceremony, counting the notes in full before accepting them and handing Su Chen a medicine packet.

Su Chen opened it and saw that it was indeed ten Qi Blood Pills. He then put the pills into his pocket right in front of the man.

"I also need Profound Essence Pills on my end. Can you get them?" Su Chen suddenly looked up at the cloaked man and asked.

The cloaked man looked at Su Chen in surprise and quickly shook his head. "I can’t. I can only refine Qi Blood Pills at the moment."

This caught Su Chen off guard. It turned out these Qi Blood Pills weren’t bought by the other party, but refined by the cloaked man himself.

He gave the cloaked man a deep look and said coldly, "The Profound Essence Pills don’t have to be traded the same way as the Qi Blood Pills. Get as many as you are capable of, and the price is negotiable!"

The cloaked man was clearly tempted. After pondering for a moment, he nodded. "Alright, I’ll try my best!"

Su Chen gave a slight nod. Without exchanging any more words, he leaped away and departed.

The cloaked man stood in place, watching Su Chen’s retreating back, his gaze suddenly growing profound. Only when Su Chen disappeared at the end of his line of sight did he retract his gaze. He touched another batch of pills in his pocket, his eyes turning icy cold.

He thought, "This guy seems to have already suspected me."

In the distance, Su Chen hadn’t actually left. Instead, he was hiding in the shadows, observing the cloaked man.

From the very beginning when he met the cloaked man to the end of the transaction, he’d had a strange feeling—the other party seemed to believe in his identity far too easily, without the slightest suspicion that he was an imposter. The man also hadn’t shown much reaction to his requests and had essentially agreed to everything. Under normal circumstances, this wouldn’t seem like an issue, but Su Chen sensed that something was slightly off.

"Why are you covering your face this time?"

This seemingly irrelevant sentence surfaced in his mind. He hadn’t noticed it at the time, but thinking back on it carefully now, it didn’t seem like a mere greeting.

"Could it be a secret code?" Su Chen couldn’t help but wonder. When the cloaked man answered that question, there had seemed to be a subtle change in his expression.

Watching the cloaked man walk away, Su Chen pondered, "Should I follow him and take a look?"

However, he quickly shook his head and rejected the idea. "Forget it. Regardless of whether he suspects my identity, I’ll find out the next time we meet. It’s better to play it by ear when the time comes!"

Touching the ten Qi Blood Pills in his pocket, Su Chen calmed his thoughts, then turned and left.

What he failed to notice, however, was that shortly after his departure, a carrier pigeon flapped its wings with a FLUTTER FLUTTER. It flew over towering mountains and steep ridges, swept past rivers and fields, and swooped down to land on the outer wall of a courtyard.

CREAK.

The courtyard gates were pushed open, and a tall man stormed in angrily, followed by two subordinates.

"Have you still not found Chang Yuan?" the tall man asked in a deep voice.

The two subordinates exchanged a glance and knelt down. "Reporting to the Dharma King, not yet."

"Outrageous! He goes missing at such a critical moment, delaying my grand plans. Does he really think I won’t kill him?" The tall man cursed mercilessly. Glancing at the two kneeling subordinates, his anger flared even higher. "What are you kneeling here for? Hurry up and find him!"

"Yes!" The two hastily replied, then got up to leave.

"Hold on!"

But just as the two stepped out of the gate, they heard a cold, stern shout from behind. They halted and looked back, only to see the tall man looking down at a slip of paper, his face bearing an unprecedentedly solemn expression.

After a long pause, under the puzzled gazes of the two men, the tall man tore the slip of paper to shreds, his expression returning to calm. He waved his hand and said evenly, "Continue your search. I want to see him if he’s alive, or his corpse if he’s dead!"

These words took the two subordinates aback. They seemed to have guessed something in their hearts, exchanged a look, and then nodded heavily before retreating. "Yes!"

At the Profound Water Sect.

Duan Feng, who had already fallen fast asleep, heard the cooing of a carrier pigeon. He couldn’t help but open his eyes, got out of bed, and walked over to the window to retrieve the letter.

"Those sons of bitches from the Rebirth Sect! They know full well the other party is an imposter, yet they still tell me to lure him in. Do they really think of me as their fucking slave?"

After reading the contents of the letter, a flash of anger crossed Duan Feng’s face. He had already informed the Rebirth Sect of the time and location of the next transaction. Yet, they still refused to let him off the hook, wanting him to continue trading with Su Chen next time so they could follow the clues and unearth the forces backing Su Chen.

Although he didn’t know Su Chen’s true identity, anyone who dared to impersonate a member of the Rebirth Sect had to be incredibly audacious, regardless of whether their background was formidable or not. And an audacious person definitely had something to rely on! If they made him continue trading with Su Chen, and the other party saw through him while the Rebirth Sect went back on their word and refused to intervene, then only one outcome awaited him.

"Scumbags! I was truly blind back then to get roped into your criminal enterprise!"

Amidst his anger was endless regret. Having become entangled with the Rebirth Sect while still being a member of the Profound Water Sect, it was now too late to back out.

With a deep sigh, an expression of boundless desolation appeared on Duan Feng’s face. No matter how reluctant he was to show himself, he was powerless to resist the Rebirth Sect, who had blackmail material on him. He could only comply.

Thinking of this, he grew increasingly irritable and distressed, and intermittent sounds of things crashing echoed throughout the room.

Three days’ time didn’t bring much change for Su Chen. He continued to stay home every day, popping pills, reading books, and dispensing medicine...

On the night of the third day, Su Chen disguised himself and arrived at the agreed-upon location half an hour early, lurking in the shadows and waiting in silence.
