Chapter 88: Promotion
Chapter 88: Chapter 88: Promotion
As the others talked, Kaiden stood silently to the side.
His eyes were vacant and his expression was wooden. He looked as if he had lost his soul.
In a single day, Kaiden’s mood had been on a roller coaster.
Just yesterday, he had been holding forth with his friends in the tavern, boasting that they would become the top Adventurer Squad in Black Stone Town and dreaming of how to spend the bounty.
Today, all his companions had died in a filthy quagmire, their bodies not even cold yet.
Just as he was collapsing in despair, that terrifying Demon was easily killed by other Adventurers.
Kaiden no longer knew how to face reality. His mind was a complete blank.
’Is this life as an Adventurer... really for me?’
Kaiden lowered his head to stare at his palm, his heart filled with bewilderment.
Just as his mind was racing, a hand patted his shoulder.
Kaiden raised his head and saw the Mage named Zelir.
"Take it."
Zelir pressed a handful of Silver Coins into Kaiden’s hand.
"I’m not one for lectures... but don’t make this kind of mistake again. This is your payment. Think hard about what you’re going to do next."
With that, Zelir didn’t linger. He bid farewell to Marcus and the others, then walked straight out of the Adventurer’s Association.
Kaiden was speechless. He simply leaned against the counter and slowly sank into a crouch.
He clutched the coins tightly, tears once again threatening to spill from his eyes.
...
Zelir was in no hurry after returning to the Night Flower Inn. He enjoyed a large meal, just as he always did, before heading back to his room.
The room was quiet. The clamor from outside the window seemed to belong to another world entirely.
Zelir bolted the door and sat cross-legged on the bed. Moonlight filled the room with a cold, clear light.
He first entered a Shallow Meditation to calm the exhaustion and excitement from the day’s battle.
Zelir needed to greet the coming metamorphosis with a perfect, tranquil state of mind.
By the time his Shallow Meditation was complete, the night sky was full of stars. Zelir’s mind was as tranquil and peaceful as an ancient, undisturbed well.
It was time to take the final step.
Ascension to Junior Mage!
Zelir closed his eyes, sinking his mind and consciousness into his vast sea of consciousness.
The Spring Seed, which had been radiating a steady light, began to pulse at a peculiar frequency, each tremor more intense than the last.
An indescribable, immense power erupted from the Spring Seed, expanding outward like a supernova.
His entire sea of consciousness began to boil.
His Magic Power, once a tranquil stream, now became a roaring, surging river.
Zelir could clearly perceive the circulation speed of his Magic Power accelerating, meaning his speed at Sketching Spell Structures would take a qualitative leap forward.
The light radiating from the Spring Seed was no longer gentle; it grew ever more dazzling. This meant every wisp of Magic Power born from it was purer and more refined.
Even the rate at which the Spring Seed itself generated Magic Power had increased considerably during this Ascension.
And all of this was just the beginning.
Under the wild, powerful pulsations of the Spring Seed, the sea of consciousness that housed his Magic Power began to stretch and expand. It evolved from a mere pond into a lake, directly increasing Zelir’s maximum Magic Power capacity.
This comprehensive enhancement brought with it an irresistible sensation of comfort.
A warm current spread through his entire body, washing over his nerves. Every cell in his body seemed to moan in satisfaction.
His eyelids grew heavier and heavier. In his eyes, the world began to sway and float, as if he were drifting among the clouds.
Finally, Zelir could hold on no longer. He fell back, sinking into a deep sleep.
And within his body, a magnificent metamorphosis was unfolding.
...
The first rays of dawn pierced the clouds, illuminating the dimness of the room. It was morning.
Zelir’s eyelids fluttered. His consciousness felt like it was slowly rising from the depths of the ocean—a blurry chaos at first, before gradually sharpening into focus.
Zelir opened his eyes and slowly sat up. He stared into space for a moment before touching his face.
’I... fell asleep during my Ascension.’
’So, did it work?’
With a thought, his data panel materialized. Zelir’s eyes widened when he saw his new attribute values.
Power: 65
Agility: 61
Constitution: 68
Spirit: 71 -> 91
Intelligence: 94 -> 114
Perception: 30 -> 32
Charm: 52 -> 54
Lucky: 41 -> 51
Talent Skills:
1. Technique Celestial Calculation.
2. Awaiting selection.
Successfully promoted to Junior Mage!
"A comprehensive increase in my magic-related stats..." Zelir murmured.
After crossing the threshold to become a Junior Mage, the power that erupted from the Spring Seed directly increased his Spirit and Intelligence by 20 points each.
His Perception and Charm also increased by 2 points each, a nice little boost.
But the increase to his Lucky attribute was what surprised Zelir the most.
This Ultimate attribute, which normally required four points for a single increase, had jumped by ten points all at once.
’By a normal progression, I’d have to spend forty points—leveling up ten times—to gain that much...’
’The average for Lucky is 15, yet I have 51...’
Zelir couldn’t help but wonder, ’If I were to lie down in the middle of a wide road right now, would a carriage about to run me over suddenly lose control and swerve off to the side for some reason...’
In the Talent Skills section, the previously locked Spring Overload and Magic Contract were now available to be chosen.
Zelir lowered his gaze, pondering for a moment before solidifying his choice.
’Then...’
’It has to be you!’
’Magic Contract!’
’Spring Overload is certainly powerful—a strong Magic-amplification buff with no side effects—but in my view, it’s ultimately no match for solid, well-rounded stats.’
’By choosing Magic Contract, I can focus on bolstering my neglected Spirit attribute when I level up, while also improving my physical constitution.’
’A Mage who can’t protect himself is doomed to be his squad’s weak link, an opening for the enemy to exploit, and a piece of fine china that could shatter at any moment.’
’You can only deal damage if you’re alive!’
[Talent Skill "Magic Contract" has been unlocked]
His attribute panel changed once more!
Power: 65 -> 88
Agility: 61 -> 84
Constitution: 68 -> 91
Spirit: 91
Intelligence: 114
Perception: 32
Charm: 54
Lucky: 51
Talent Skills:
Technique Celestial Calculation
Magic Contract
The three attributes of Power, Agility, and Constitution received a massive, instantaneous boost. His Constitution attribute had even shot up to match his Spirit.
After the enhancement, there were no other changes to the data panel.
’It seems this kind of percentage-based increase doesn’t trigger the synergistic mechanics between Power, Agility, and Constitution,’ Zelir thought.
As he was thinking, Zelir suddenly felt a change from within his body.
Unlike the immense surge of Magic Power from his Ascension, this was a peculiar energy, full of vitality.
It gushed directly from the Spring Seed and combined with his own Magic Power, producing a truly wondrous change!
