My Magic Has No Upper Limit

Chapter 127 - 126: You Like Bev, Don’t You?

Chapter 127: Chapter 126: You Like Bev, Don’t You?

Zelir also recognized one of the Magic Apprentices in the Third Squad: Riley.

He even came over to greet Zelir.

These were all the members led by Lena and Manlin—a truly impressive lineup.

Lena, Manlin, Hank, and Yisi—four Upper Level Class members who served as the strongest assurance of the squad’s safety.

Then there were the eight Mages from the Third and Fourth Squads combined.

Adding the four members of the Combat Escort Team, the total came to sixteen people.

"Before we set out, I have one more thing to add."

Instructor Manlin, who had been quiet until now, spoke up, drawing everyone’s attention.

"As you all know, I am an Empowerment Mage and can quickly heal all sorts of injuries."

"This means... if none of you get injured, my abilities will be completely useless, won’t they?" Manlin said with a faint smile.

Her words made the expressions of the Mages from the Third and Fourth Squads stiffen.

"There you go again, Manlin..." Lena sighed, pressing a hand to her forehead.

"As Instructor Lena said, we, along with the two Upper Level Warriors, are the insurance for this Monster Hunting trip."

"By ’insurance,’ I mean we’ll only step in when you face truly insurmountable difficulties... You’ll have to handle the ordinary Demons you encounter on the road yourselves."

"So, it’s very likely you’ll get injured during routine combat... but don’t worry."

Manlin’s smile was as gentle as a spring breeze, but her words were rather unsettling.

"With me here, you won’t die... It’ll just be painful. Very, very painful..."

"After all, pain is a required course in life, isn’t it? I hope you can prepare yourselves mentally. Heh heh..."

After hearing her speech, the faces of several young Magic Apprentices turned pale. Even Lante subconsciously shrank behind Zelir.

Looking at the gentle smile on Manlin’s face, Zelir couldn’t help but shudder inwardly.

’I get the feeling... Instructor Manlin has a hidden side to her.’

"Alright, let’s get everything onto the carriages," Lena said, clapping her hands.

The squad members immediately sprang into action, beginning to move the supplies.

"I’ve never seen what the inside of the Mage’s Guild looks like," Gray said, holding two large sacks of miscellaneous items. He stood on his tiptoes at the guild entrance, peering inside curiously.

Upon seeing the spacious courtyard and magnificent buildings, he couldn’t help but exclaim.

"It’s so grand... The space inside is huge! Compared to this, the Adventurer’s Association is practically an outhouse."

Valles silently took a step away from him, pretending he didn’t know the embarrassing fellow.

The team bustled about, loading the supplies onto the designated carriages. However, it was mostly the Adventurers doing the heavy lifting—with the exception of Zelir.

Zelir was in good physical shape, easily hoisting two heavy tent bags onto his shoulders.

As he walked toward a carriage, a figure came up and fell into step beside him.

It was Yanni.

The area was a clamor of voices, the rough shouts of the Adventurers mixing with the sounds of the carriages, but Yanni’s voice carried clearly to Zelir’s ears.

"Bev mentions you often," Yanni said, her eyes fixed ahead and her tone somewhat detached.

"Even yesterday, when it was just the two of us... she was still talking about you."

"What?"

Zelir was confused, not understanding why Yanni had suddenly brought this up.

"She told me a lot about the things you two did together," Yanni continued.

"Things like digging for herbs in the forest, roasting a rabbit in the wild, or spending a whole afternoon creating that... what was it, Fireworks Magic."

"We did do those things..." Zelir admitted frankly.

He didn’t know what she was getting at, so it was the only way he could answer. Besides, there was nothing to deny.

Hearing Zelir’s confirmation, Yanni seemed to fall silent.

Her eyes were downcast, her eyelashes trembling slightly, obscuring her expression.

"Listen..."

After a long moment of thought, Yanni suddenly turned her head to look Zelir straight in the eye.

"You have feelings for Bev, don’t you?"

"...?"

Zelir was struck speechless by the turn the conversation had taken.

The leap in logic was so great that he couldn’t process it for a moment.

Before Zelir could even form a response, Yanni spoke again.

"Bev is innocent and kind. She can’t distinguish between friendly affection and a dangerous closeness... You’re just using this as an opportunity to get closer to her, aren’t you?"

"Hold on... I think you’re misunderstanding something," Zelir said, frowning slightly.

"Bev and I share a very deep bond, the kind of connection you could never understand... so I advise you to give up on that little fantasy of yours.

The look in Yanni’s eyes was cold. She spoke slowly and deliberately, as if making a vow.

"Because... Bev is mine."

With that, Yanni didn’t linger.

She quickened her pace, walking away from Zelir without a backward glance and heading over to Bev.

Zelir watched her retreating back, his expression conflicted.

’So that’s why she hates me? Over something like this?’

Zelir sighed.

’I have a feeling this Monster Hunting trip isn’t going to be peaceful.’

...

Over on the other side of the guild entrance, Instructor Marvin had gathered the Mages of the First and Second Squads to give them their final instructions.

Zelir glanced over and saw two Adventurers with extraordinary auras standing with Instructor Marvin’s Escort Team as well.

Without a doubt, they were Upper Level Class Adventurers of the same rank as Hank and Yisi, and they were also a Vanguard and Swordsman combination.

Zelir had initially thought that since Instructor Marvin’s team only had one Upper Level Mage, they would have three Upper Level Class members in their Escort Team to compensate for the difference in overall combat strength.

But now it seemed that wasn’t the case.

’Could it be because Instructor Marvin himself is just that strong?’

The moment the thought surfaced, Zelir felt that must be the reason.

Arcane Magic was already known for its supreme destructive power, let alone in the hands of an Upper Level Mage who had mastered Level Seven Arcane Magic.

’I’d love to see Instructor Marvin fight with his full strength...’ Zelir thought with a sigh.

’It’s a shame I won’t be traveling with him to witness it firsthand.’

Just then, a burst of hearty laughter interrupted his thoughts.

Zelir looked up and was surprised to see Chairman Hogan of the Black Stone Town branch of the Adventurer’s Association.

The first time Zelir had seen Hogan, he’d thought the man was extremely serious and stern.

But now, Hogan was surprisingly laughing and chatting with Instructor Marvin, and the atmosphere between them was congenial.

On second thought, it wasn’t surprising.

After all, this Monster Hunting expedition had received significant support from the Adventurer’s Association, and the two organizations had a rather unsavory history with each other.

Chairman Hogan could use this opportunity to smooth over their relations and bridge the gap.

As time passed, all the supplies were packed and loaded. Everything was ready to go.
