My Living Shadow System Devours To Make Me Stronger

Damon watched tents get propped up and battle lines get drawn. The vanguard area was huge and stretched along several patches of the forest. The goal of this part of the force was to burn the forest and establish a safe path.

Evangeline was one of the crucial players on this route. Her abilities were the natural enemy of all dark beings and runes drawn by her were very effective. Not to mention she was a powerful fighter. The forest was a twisted place. Other than the horrors there was also corruption and rot. If you touched the wrong thing or the wrong thing touched you then you were bound to get corrupted. Listening to the forest whispers also got you corrupted.

The lucky ones were the ones who died outright. The unlucky ones turned into monsters slowly.

The counter measure for this was created by demon lord Paimon and a special rune was created and added to the soldiers gear. Which was mass produced by Lazarak the organization Damon founded under Lilith Astranova leadership. She expanded the original operations and with her families clout and her understanding of noble societies she managed to raise the value of the organization even more than before.

Damon sat under a small tent watching the soldiers eat their rations as a large patch of the forest burned not far away. Small skirmishes broke out now and then between the troops and low level monsters pushing at the fire line.

It had been five hours since they set camp and there were no moments to rest. The forest was always attacking.

The sun was going down soon and Ashergon was nowhere to be seen other than his distant roars like thunder.

Just as Damon was about to get up he narrowed his eyes when he saw something moving in the sky. It was big and its wings were wide. It easily dwarfed a building.

He was not the only one who saw it. A few soldiers did as well and then one of them screamed.

“Dragon…” his voice shook with pure horror and dread as he scrambled to find cover from this overwhelming enemy.

However Damon did not move because that was not Ashergon. It was just a slightly larger wyvern compared to Ashergon. This was nothing.

He reached into his shadow storage and pulled out a spear as soldiers who had been spooked by the man’s scream ran to their battle formations with despair written on their faces.

Only Damon remained in the open with Evangeline and Leona. They all looked at the sky.

Leona sighed and shook her head.

“I wonder how good that wyvern would taste”

Evangeline smiled at Leona’s words. It sounded like a joke but she was actually serious.

“Well then lets find out. Shall we”

She leapt into the air with a single bound, reaching hundreds of meters, shattering the air with a sonic boom and leaving a small crater next to Damon. Air roared past her face as she met the wyvern in the sky.

Then she slashed up with her sword.

[Noon]

A bright sword light rose like the sun at noon and roared towards the wyvern.

The sky was its home and it would not be slain easily. It twisted mid air and dodged. Its wings were nicked slightly.

Gravity began to pull Evangeline down and it opened its maw.

Damon was about to throw his spear when her feet lit up and she waved, floating in the air.

He did not sense any spells being cast so she was not using a flight spell.

“Since when could she fly” he asked in a deadpan manner.

“Ooh you missed somethings and some stuff happen now she flies.” Leona said, waving her hand for the artillery unit to fire.

Defying sounds of magic echoed out and boomed towards the heavens like white streaks sent to slay god.

The wyvern was hit with this attack and its body shimmered as it used magic to resist. It opened its maw as a huge streak of flames roared out, shooting toward Evangeline and the troops below.

A golden barrier appeared around her as she swung her sword.

[Radiant blade]

A crescent slash cut through the air as the wyvern used its horn to counter attack.

From the ground the world heard a thunder clap as Leona turned into a flash of lightning, streaking through the air and slashing her sword at the wyvern’s belly. A boom echoed out as its whole body jerked up and blood fell from its mouth as it cried in pain.

A second volley hit its body.

Evangeline readied her sword again. This time she would bring down the barrier around its body.

[Noon]

A giant sun swung down with her sword and the sound of glass breaking echoed out with the bright light.

The wyvern’s roar filled the heavens as blood streamed down like rain, burning anyone below who was too weak to handle its hot blood.

Then from the ground Damon raised the spear in his hand.

With a massive booming sound he threw it up towards the wyvern’s head.

It streaked up surrounded by shadows and shot through the chest of the wyvern. The beast roared loudly and then its roar weakened and slowly died down completely. Its massive form lost its ability to fly and then dropped toward the ground as gravity pulled it down.

[You have slain Ashergon wings]

Boom. The earth shook as the wyvern hit the ground with a dull sound and its body slid towards Damon.

Blood mixed with the earth in large pools where it had been impaled. Damon reached up as his spear fell back into his arms covered in wyvern blood.

Leona and Evangeline landed next to the wyvern, their boots touching the blood.

“Hehe” Leona smiled. “I want grilled wyvern please and this time we have seasoning unlike the last time”

Damon was about to question when the last time was but suddenly remembered they had indeed eaten a wyvern from Ashergon followers before they entered the whispering forest years ago.

It had been killed by something. A murmur worm had ripped it apart and they had gotten the dregs.

Damon laughed.

“In that case lets have a feast”
