My Favorite Game Followed Me!
Chapter 948
Anton wanted to return to Earth because the foundation of his Diablo System—the Diablo games, along with his beloved movies, television shows, anime, and fantasy and science-fiction novels—came from there.
However, he had realized long ago that he wouldn’t stay on his former home planet for very long.
Once he became capable of traveling across the multiverse, the allure of exploring different worlds and dimensions would be too great. Even so, he still wanted the ability to return to Earth whenever he wished.
Anton also wanted Anders and Anna, his family on his second world, to see his original home planet.
Since he had transmigrated to this world, both his father and sister had watched hundreds, if not thousands, of movies and several television shows. They had also become familiar with some of the culture found on Earth.
He remembered when Anna had told him that she wanted to visit New York or Paris and either become a supermodel or a fashion designer.
The thought still amused him.
Anna possessed the talent to wield forces capable of shaping worlds, yet because of the movies and television shows she had watched, she also wanted to become a model or fashion designer on Earth.
When Anton suggested that she could do the same thing in Ormunda, especially since Romina had started recreating aspects of Earth's fashion industry, Anna had merely sniffed and rolled her eyes.
She had told him that she could only work as a model or designer in the place where the movies came from.
Anton knew that if he successfully returned to Earth, there was a significant chance that his presence would change the planet.
Magic might begin to spread throughout Earth, and if that happened, it would ultimately change the way human civilization functioned.
At present, Anton believed there was little chance that any wizards had reached Earth, since everything related to magic could only be found in fictional works.
However, he supposed there was a possibility that the legendary and powerful beings described in religious texts had actually been wizards who had somehow reached Earth.
The problem was that if that were true, why had it stopped?
In modern times, there were no longer any miracles capable of leaving people completely awestruck.
Anton wondered if wizards had once reached Earth and performed the grand miracles recorded in ancient texts. If so, what had caused them to disappear?
If wizards powerful enough to perform those miracles had reached Earth, they should have possessed enough power to create a Gate and return.
Anton had developed many theories.
One possibility was that, for some reason, Earth stripped them of their powers. Perhaps they could only use the remaining mana within their bodies to perform their miracles, leaving them trapped on Earth until they eventually died.
Anton didn’t doubt that once he became capable of traveling across the multiverse, he would eventually reach Earth, even if he didn’t possess its spatial coordinates.
Earth was part of his very being. Deep within his psyche, he could feel that the path back was always there.
He had already resolved that once he managed to return to Earth, he would keep the knowledge that he knew the way to Earth a secret.
He intended to ask Anders and Anna to do the same.
Anton didn’t want the source of his beloved movies, games, anime, and novels to become so chaotic that the things that had made him an otaku would disappear.
He was certain that the spread of magic would eventually cause that.
After several days of allowing his summons to search for the spatial energy-laced mythic ore without finding anything, Anton had managed to cover roughly one percent of the Xinati Wilderness.
At the very least, he had made some progress in another area.
He had successfully added two more spells to the fourth tab of his Sorceress’s skills: Minor Illusion and Alarm.
Soon, he would have enough knowledge to adapt spells with more complex structures, such as Gate.
After a while, Anton became impatient enough to join the search himself.
He started flying around the wilderness just like his summons, repeatedly casting Locate Object because relying solely on his senses wasn’t effective enough.
Anton only stopped after several hours of searching.
He returned to where his Grizzly was waiting and rested inside the comfortable little tent he had placed on top of the enormous summon.
While flying around, he encountered several wild monsters. However, since he was in the air, he simply left them alone.
He only killed the monsters that could fly and attempted to attack him.
He did discover several caverns containing rare metals, including small deposits of Adamantine and Orichalcum.
However, the deposits were too small for Anton to bother mining.
He had only discovered them because they were located near some Mythic ore, the magical metal he had been using with his Locate Object spell.
Unfortunately, all the Mythic ore he found was the ordinary variety.
Thankfully, Anton was accustomed to being alone.
With his Diablo System giving him access to Earth's internet, he had plenty of things to keep himself entertained.
He wondered how ordinary Travelers managed to complete missions like this.
If Anton didn’t have access to the internet, he probably would have gone insane from boredom.
Anton hadn’t encountered anyone while he and his summons roamed through the wilderness.
More than likely, it was because they were deep inside the Xinati Wilderness, where the only creatures that thrived were monsters.
After about a week, Anton was beginning to become genuinely angry.
He started thinking that this mission was ridiculous.
He hadn’t found even a trace of the damned ore.
He even began wishing that he could summon thousands upon thousands of summons and use them to search the entire wilderness.
A few more days passed before Anton suddenly remembered that he could create summoning tablets capable of summoning wolves.
He only needed around forty minutes to create a single tablet.
If he spent an entire day crafting them, he could produce roughly twelve tablets after eight hours of work.
Anton was about to begin crafting them using some of the wood he could see nearby when one of his dire wolves suddenly reported seeing an entrance to a dungeon.
Anton immediately exited his tiny tent and flew toward the location his wolf had reported.
When he arrived, he saw something he had read about before.
A wild dungeon.
More importantly, Anton could feel spatial energy floating around the entrance.
There was a good chance that the dungeon would lead him to the place where the resource he was searching for could be found.
Anton immediately flew back to his Grizzly, stored the tiny tent on its back, and dispelled all of his summons.
It didn’t matter that his summons would disappear from the areas they had already searched. They were capable of remembering which areas they had thoroughly investigated.
If the wild dungeon turned out to be a dead end, Anton could simply have his summons resume their search from where they had stopped.
When Anton returned to the entrance of the wild dungeon, he cast Spatial Coordinate Determination and recorded the spatial coordinates of the entrance.
Once he had the information, he didn’t delay any longer and entered the dungeon.
As soon as he stepped inside, Anton felt the spatial energy become noticeably stronger.
That confirmed his suspicion that there was a good chance he would find what he was looking for inside the dungeon.
Anton summoned all of his summons and ordered them to begin exploring the dungeon and kill any monsters they encountered.
The monsters inside were unusual.
They resembled gray humanoid creatures and were capable of casting spatial spells, although their spells were relatively weak.
More than likely, this was a young dungeon.
Anton’s summons had no difficulty slaughtering the dungeon monsters, even though the creatures could teleport around the dungeon.
After a while, the Shadow Master sent Anton a message.
They had found it.
The ore contained mithril, sometimes called mythic ore, and was also infused with spatial energy.
The immense relief Anton felt was almost overwhelming.
He could finally complete his mission.
