After his second day in the Xinati Wilderness, Anton began to feel that he was approaching his mission incorrectly.

Lemuel had told him that the first mission a Novice Traveler was supposed to complete was a learning and humbling trial. It was meant to instill the understanding that Travelers needed to learn how to adapt to whatever situations they encountered during their journeys.

Travelers were supposed to learn how to use their skills and resources to overcome whatever desperate situations they found themselves in.

Anton’s current situation, however, was far from anything like that.

He was simply letting his summons search the wilderness for spatial energy-laced mythic ore while he waited at the center of the area they were investigating, comfortable inside his tiny tent on top of his Grizzly. Once they had thoroughly searched an area, Anton would travel to the next one, and the search would begin again.

After two days, Anton had moved three times. However, based on the size of the Xinati Wilderness shown on the map Lemuel had given him, he hadn’t even covered one percent of the area.

Anton was just glad that he hadn’t been given a time limit to complete the mission, but he knew he still couldn’t spend an absurd amount of time on his first mission.

The problem was that he couldn’t think of a better way to assist his summons in searching for the ore.

He checked the hundreds of spellbooks that someone from New Drennor had purchased for him and found several spells that could potentially assist him, such as the first-level Detect Magic and the second-level Locate Object.

There were also a couple of higher-level spells, but those spells had limitations or specific uses that made them unsuitable for his current situation.

For example, Locate Creature would only work on living creatures, while Scrying and Clairvoyance were essentially magical methods of using his eyes to search for things.

The main issue was the limited area of effect of these spells.

Detect Magic, for example, could only cover a radius of thirty feet.

Locate Object might actually be useful, and Lemuel had hinted that it was the spell that was supposed to help him considerably. It also covered a much wider area of around one thousand feet.

However, after considering the abilities of his summons, Anton still thought it would be more efficient to simply continue using them for the search.

Another possibility was to use the local wildlife or monsters to find the ore.

If one of his summons detected that an animal or monster they encountered had been exposed to spatial energy, they would spare it and follow it until they found whatever had caused the creature to become infused with spatial energy.

Unfortunately, they hadn’t encountered any animals or monsters like that so far.

At the very least, while Anton waited for his dire wolves, spirit wolves, ravens, and Poison Creeper to find the ore, he had managed to add Mending to the list of spells he had successfully adapted to the fourth tab of his Sorceress’s skill tree.

Looking at the four spells in the fourth tab—Cleaning, Light, Underwater Breathing, and now Mending—Anton felt a surge of delight at his accomplishment.

He felt that, someday, he would be able to add even more powerful spells.

He thought about some of the spells he had seen Semi-Divine and Divine Wizards cast during the battle against the Undead Coalition.

One had created a sphere of destructive gravitational force that annihilated countless undead. When Anton had asked some of the wizards about it, he had learned that the spell was called either Dark Star or Ravenous Void.

Another spell had summoned a transparent dragon that spewed all kinds of elemental breath. That spell was called Illusory Dragon.

Anton hadn’t seen any magic stores selling spells of that caliber.

He had learned that spells at the Archmage level and above weren’t sold in ordinary stores. Instead, they were usually awarded to wizards within organizations or inherited by wizards from powerful magical families.

There had been a time when Anton had seriously considered joining an academy in Ormunda so that he could gain access to spells like those.

However, at the time, he had still been satisfied with the power provided by his Diablo II spells, so he hadn’t acted on that desire.

Now, he was a member of Traveler’s Haven, and the organization had already given him five spells that weren’t available to the general populace.

Lemuel had also told him that once he increased his Traveler rank, he would gain access to even more powerful spells.

Another Cantrip that Anton thought would be useful—and that he could potentially add to his Sorceress’s fourth tab—was Message.

The spell would allow him to send a whispered message to a person within his line of sight. Only the targeted person would hear the whisper, and they could reply using the same method of communication.

The only thing Anton felt somewhat guilty about was that he had neglected his Diablo Immortal Wizard character.

He hadn’t played it for several days, and if he was being honest with himself, he had no desire to play it.

When he had first obtained the game, he had been excited to play it. However, after several months, he had grown bored with it.

Anton didn’t want his Diablo Immortal Wizard to disappear, since it provided him with considerable additional power. However, it was unlikely that he would ever be able to focus on it as much as he had focused on the Diablo II portion of his Diablo System.

He had even started neglecting Diablo II simply because the only way it currently helped him increase his power was through ladder seasons, and the next ladder season was still a couple of months away.

Anton assumed that because his system had changed its name from the Diablo II System to the Diablo System, it would eventually add more Diablo games, just as it had with Diablo Immortal.

He had expected the next game to be either Diablo I, Diablo III, or Diablo IV.

So far, however, none of them had appeared.

Anton theorized that he was simply being impatient.

He had only transmigrated to this world three years ago, so it was likely that it would take a long time before his Diablo System added anything new.

Another theory he had developed was that the two games currently contained within his Diablo System—Diablo II and Diablo Immortal—were already enough to allow him to reach the Invincible Rank in wizardry.

Perhaps the system wouldn’t give him another game until he reached that rank.

Based on his calculations, he would need three more ladder seasons before he reached the Invincible Rank. His progress toward that rank depended on the stats he gained after completing a character during each ladder season.

In truth, what Anton really wanted was to have other computer games added to his system.

They didn’t even need to give him additional power.

He simply wanted to be able to play them for entertainment.

Back on Earth, Anton had loved games, but because of his financial situation, he had never had the opportunity to try many of the games he had wanted to play, such as Skyrim, Dark Souls, and Elden Ring.

Anton thought there were only two ways he could eventually play those games.

The first was for his system to allow him to play them.

They didn’t need to contribute to his personal power. He would be perfectly satisfied if they simply existed within his system as entertainment.

The second possibility, which Anton considered far more likely, was to increase his Traveler rank enough that he could eventually return to Earth and enjoy its high-tech devices.

Once he could return to Earth with all the power he had accumulated, he wouldn’t be the pathetic loser he had once been.

Anton would be able to use his power to accumulate wealth, allowing him to finally enjoy some of the things he had once been able to do nothing more than look at from afar.
