Chapter 95: Chapter 95: Unauthorized Departure from Post
So far, the highest-scoring student they had processed had just over 600 points. They didn’t know the situation at the other schools in the city, but the difference was unlikely to be more than 500 points.
In other words, the top student at any other exam site in the city probably had a score of just over a thousand points. Even if there were one or two exceptionally strong students, they’d score 1500 points at the absolute most!
These were all examinees who had entered the Dungeon without bringing any herbs.
Li Heng, this examinee, had also entered the Dungeon without any herbs. Yet so far, his total score had already surpassed 3,500 points!
Moreover, there were still several Tier-2 herbs and one Tier-3 herb that had yet to be factored into his score!
Whether in his slaying of soul beasts or his collection of herbs, his performance was exceptional, truly in a class of its own.
Barring any surprises, the top scorer of this year’s Dungeon college entrance exam in Maple City would undoubtedly be none other than Li Heng!
Yet a student of his caliber hadn’t been selected as one of the top ten, nor had he been chosen to participate in the national targeted exam.
Either Maple City had ten other geniuses this year who were even more outstanding than the examinee Li Heng.
Or the person in charge in Maple City had failed to discover this hidden gem that was Li Heng!
Li Heng’s score was high enough to be the top scorer!
No matter how amazing Maple City was, it couldn’t have suddenly produced ten geniuses even more incredible than the top scorer, right?
So, after putting two and two together, the teacher holding Li Heng’s ID figured out the whole reason—Li Heng must not have been recommended as one of the top ten, thus holding back a genius!
After all, the resources and benefits from participating in the national targeted exam were much greater than those from the regular Dungeon college entrance exam.
The teacher holding Li Heng’s ID thought of this and couldn’t help but feel sorry for Li Heng. ’If he were in my city, I’d have absolutely recommended him for the top ten. I might have even reported him as provincial-level talent!’
’The national targeted exam should be the stage for such an outstanding student!’
"It’s a bit of a shame! But talent will always shine through. Your score is more than enough to open the eyes of the people responsible for the top-ten recommendations!"
After saying this, the teacher fell silent and picked up his pen, ready to continue recording.
Originally, when he heard the teacher mention the national targeted exam, Li Heng had planned to offer a word or two of explanation, but seeing the teacher’s indignant attitude, he thought better of it. He decided not to explain and just offered a couple of polite, noncommittal replies.
As for Teacher Su, who was in charge of appraising the herbs, she waited for the "interaction" between the other teacher and Li Heng to end. Once she had composed herself, she resumed her work.
First, she finished appraising the remaining Tier-2 herbs. Then, very seriously, she began to observe and appraise the Earth Rock Spirit Flower.
Previously, appraising the Tier-2 herbs had taken her about ten seconds each, but this Earth Rock Spirit Flower took a full minute to appraise.
Only after a full minute did Teacher Su speak: "Tier-3 herb, an Earth Rock Spirit Flower of good quality. 300 points!"
After announcing the score for the Earth Rock Spirit Flower, Teacher Su gestured for Li Heng to take the herbs back and put them in his Space Stone.
This was because the rules of the Dungeon college entrance exam stipulated that all Soul Energy Herbs and other herbs belonged to the examinee.
As Li Heng was putting the herbs away, Teacher Su announced in a clear voice.
"The herb score calculation is complete. The final calculated score for the herbs is 3,300 points. Student Li Heng, do you have any objections to this score? If you do, please fill out these two application forms, and the other two teachers will submit them to file an appeal on your behalf!"
"I have no objections. Thank you, Teacher Su," Li Heng replied.
4,021 points!
Although Li Heng had been confident he could get into a Soul Energy University before entering the Dungeon, he had grinded the Wolf King Mountain Dungeon relentlessly to ensure he could get into a top-tier one.
’Judging from what Bao Yaoyao said about 1,000 points being a good score, and from the reactions of these three teachers, my 4,021 points must be an outstanding result!’
’The hair I lost from all that grinding didn’t fall out in vain!’
Li Heng felt a genuine sense of happiness. Getting a good score was always a joyous occasion, even if the preparation process had been a bit grueling.
When his score was finalized at 4,021, Li Heng let out a long sigh of relief. It was the most relaxed he had felt in nearly two weeks.
"Student Li Heng, your final confirmed score is 4,021 points. One week after the Dungeon college entrance exam ends, please log into the school website at 10 AM to check your ranking. Here are your documents. Please keep them safe."
After Teacher Su announced the herb score, the teacher who had been holding Li Heng’s ID informed him of the next steps and handed back his national ID and student ID card.
The score calculation was over, and he had his documents back. There was no point in staying any longer, so after thanking the three teachers, Li Heng left the score-auditing classroom.
He then strolled out, leaving Maple City Seventh Middle School.
After Li Heng left the classroom, the three teachers all fell silent. As if by unspoken agreement, they all lowered their heads, lost in thought, none of them speaking to the others.
Two minutes later, Teacher Su, the herb appraiser, was the first to break the silence. "Gentlemen, I’m sorry, but I’m suddenly not feeling well. I think I might be coming down with a cold. I’d like to take a break. I’ll ask someone else to take over the rest of the herb appraisals..."
"Wait! Teacher Su, if I recall correctly, you’re a Great Soul Warrior now, aren’t you? Can a Great Soul Warrior even catch a cold? But speaking of which... this is a bit embarrassing, but I just remembered my supervisor suddenly asked for an urgent file this morning. I might need to take a break for a bit, too."
The teacher in charge of appraising the score cards interrupted before Teacher Su could finish. Then, with a very sincere attitude, he offered the excuse he had just concocted.
Coincidentally, just as the score card teacher mentioned taking leave, the teacher who had been holding Li Heng’s ID also interrupted.
"During the Dungeon college entrance exam, all selected university teachers are to cease their regular duties and focus on their assigned exam work. If you two are feeling unwell or have urgent matters to attend to, you can rest here for a while. Don’t wander off. I will go and apply to our superiors regarding the matter of taking leave!"
"No way!"
"Don’t even think about leaving first!"
The moment the ID-holding teacher finished speaking, the other two teachers shouted in unison, their eyes fixed on him.
Seeing the other two getting anxious, the normally calm and steady teacher started to feel a bit anxious himself. But with two cameras still recording in the classroom, they couldn’t just walk out.
Just then, the teacher from the exam site heard the sounds of an argument coming from the score-auditing classroom and rushed over to see what was happening.
When the exam site teacher arrived, the gazes of the three teachers targeted him almost simultaneously.
Feeling three "ferocious" glares aimed at him at once, compounded by the pressure of three Great Soul Warriors, the exam site teacher froze for a moment. He subconsciously asked, "The three of you... what’s going on...?"
"Urgent business!"
"Caught a cold!"
"Someone’s covering for me!"
The three teachers spoke almost at the same time, then scrambled to rush out of the classroom as if their lives depended on it. The very instant they were out the door, they all pulled out their communication devices.
As for the exam site teacher, he stared at the suddenly empty classroom, completely baffled. He was utterly dumbfounded. ’Abandoning... their posts... without permission... as a group?’
