My Desire System: The More They Want Me, The Stronger I Get
Chapter 99: Two Fingers Descend
The extraction capsule plummeted through the clouds, its heat shields glowing dull crimson as it entered the lower atmosphere.
"Brace for maritime impact," Forge crackled over the radio link as thrusters fired to cushion the descent.
The capsule hit the harbor basin with a colossal geyser of white foam, skidding across the water toward the main commercial pier.
"Is everyone breathing?" Bekka asked, popping her harness latch with a sharp click.
"I have all my teeth, but my stomach is still somewhere over the stratosphere," Redline groaned, unbuckling his straps.
Beside the pier, hundreds of dockworkers and volunteer wardens rushed forward with mooring ropes to secure the metal shell.
Leo kicked the warped hatch open, breathing in the familiar harbor air thick with salt spray, burning rubber, and damp coal soot.
"The Ghost is back," a young dockworker shouted, waving his hard hat toward the clinic, cheering, "And he brought the captives."
Cassian stepped out onto the salt-stained concrete, checking his tactical chronometer as the Corvid settled on the adjacent gantry.
Suddenly, a silent shudder resonated across the sky, freezing the coastal wind and dampening the blare of city alarms.
The ambient temperature dropped twenty degrees in a single second, turning the humid harbor air into drifting frost.
"What is happening to the air?" Bekka asked, her hand instantly going to her sidearm.
"The atmospheric pressure just flatlined," Cassian said, staring up at his scanner display.
Across the mile-wide underbelly of the alien flagship, a colossal ethereal projection materialized against the grey clouds.
It took the shape of two gargantuan, gauntleted obsidian fingers, tapping idly against the hull like a hunter weighing an animal in a trap.
"What in the hell is that?" Cole’s voice called out from the dock barricade, his shotgun resting on his knee.
"That is not a Vorn biological broadcast," Cassian muttered, his optical visor magnifying the jagged runic brand carved into the phantom armor.
"The glyph matches an ancient Hegemony war-mark sealed in Dutch’s deepest intelligence archives."
"Whose mark is it, Cassian?" Leo asked, stepping to the edge of the pier.
"It belongs to an imperial warlord whose fleet subjugated twelve independent star systems before our ancestors forged bronze," Cassian answered quietly.
"The dead dialect names him Kurgan the Inevitable."
High above, Ajax roared with golden fury, rocketing straight toward the projection with fists ablaze like twin suns.
"Get out of our sky," Ajax roared, his golden aura blazing as he struck the massive fingers at terminal velocity.
Yet his glowing form passed clean through the image without meeting a single atom of physical resistance.
Ajax tumbled through the empty clouds, his solar aura flickering with sheer disbelief as he wheeled around in midair.
"My fists went right through it, Aurelia," Ajax called down over the tactical frequency.
Meridian swayed on the dock parapet below, her silver tuning wand driven deep into a wooden piling as she held her head.
"The entity is not present in our solar system, Ajax," Meridian gasped, blood dripping from her lip.
"That broadcast is originating from across the deep galactic void, piercing our reality through an ancient imperial relay."
"He is projecting his will across ten thousand light years with the casual ease of a man looking through a keyhole."
Inside the damaged flagship, the surviving alien sub-commanders scrambled to restore emergency firing circuits.
"Are they still trying to fire the cannon?" Bekka asked, looking at the glowing aperture.
"Negative," Cassian reported, reading the telemetry shift, explaining, "An authoritative command override from the imperial hunter just locked their helm controls."
The All-Spark bearer was formally claimed for an imperial trial, forbidding premature destruction by planetary bombardment.
"He called off the strike just like that?" Redline asked, blinking in astonishment.
Leo stood on the dock pavement, staring up at the titanic silhouette with cold anger tightening his throat.
"So we survived because a monster from the deep stars decided I was worthy of his future hunt."
"We did not win freedom, but rather got promoted to bigger prey."
Bekka stepped to his side, resting a steady, soot-streaked hand against his shoulder.
"Do not diminish what we just did, Leo."
"We broke their targeting spine and pulled four thousand citizens out of their hulls with our own blood."
"The hunter changed the retreat order, but we earned every single second of this sunrise."
"She is right, kid," Hancock’s voice rumbled as the bruised paragon landed heavily on the dock, adding, "A win is a win, even if the referee is an alien bastard."
"John, stay down, your plasma reserves are dangerously depleted," Sunlark warned, descending to the gantry beside him.
"I will stay down when that ugly phantom stops tapping its claws against our clouds, Aurelia," Hancock growled, leaning against the railing.
"Can you trace the carrier frequency back to its source, Meridian?" Leo asked, looking across the pier at the exhausted astral magician.
"The signal path crosses three dead galactic sectors, Leo," Meridian answered softly, pressing a trembling hand to her temples.
"I can feel the cold of empty space between his thoughts, and he is vast, ancient, and utterly merciless."
A sudden, searing agony flared across Leo’s sternum, forcing him to drop to one knee on the salt-stained concrete.
Smoke rose from the front of his tactical jacket as a pitch-black brand burned directly into the flesh above his heart.

"Leo," Luna cried out, sprinting across the dock with the Lotus Spine blazing in emerald light.
She knelt beside him, pressing her bare palm directly to his scorched jacket as soothing green ether surged into his chest.
Yet the dark brand absorbed the restorative energy without fading in the slightest, remaining etched into his bone like obsidian ink.
"The cellular structure is completely bonded to a cosmic carrier wave," Luna whispered, her brow furrowed in clinical frustration.
"Does it hurt right now?" she asked softly, looking into his eyes.
"It feels like ice and fire at the same time," Leo murmured, breathing heavily through his teeth.
"It causes no immediate tissue necrosis," Luna confirmed, wrapping clean linen around his ribs as she promised, "We will find a way to break it, Leo."
Cassian lowered his datapad, his grim expression framed against the brightening horizon.
"Every intelligence agency, hero council, and satellite on this planet just recorded that mark choosing you, Marsh."
"By noon today, every boardroom in District 1 will know the Ghost carries an imperial bounty on his chest."
Bekka looked at her chronometer, which flashed nine zero-six in red digital numerals.
"My twelve-minute crisis warrant has officially expired, Detective."
Cassian nodded once, powering down his tactical link as he replied, "Understood, Officer Hayes."
High above, the damaged Vorn flagship fired its maneuvering thrusters, turning slowly away from the city.
"Look at that," a young docker shouted, pointing up as the triangular shadow receded toward the upper atmosphere.
"Will that Hegemony fleet return to Earth, Cassian?" Bekka asked, looking out over the water where the morning light was spreading.
"Not immediately," Cassian answered, his cold eyes fixed on the retreating silhouette of the flagship.
"Kurgan’s empire follows ancient ceremonial protocols for imperial trials."
"He will send scouts, probes, and bounty syndicates before he commits an armada."
"Then we have time to prepare District 9 for whatever army he sends across the void," Leo said, his voice steady and resolute.
As the alien hull cleared the coastal clouds, a ray of golden morning sunlight broke through the smoke, illuminating District 9 for the first time in days.
