My Desire System: The More They Want Me, The Stronger I Get
Chapter 33: The Sky Reborn
The four Mark-V Hunter Droids surged forward in a synchronized diamond formation, their red optical lenses glowing with lethal intent.
Dual wrist-mounted gatling cannons spun up with a whine, unleashing a crossfire of kinetic slugs down the narrow alley.
Leo stepped forward into the incoming storm, raising his drawn blade with effortless balance.
The dark crescent blade blurred through the air, parrying the supersonic projectiles with ringing cracks of displaced air that scattered sparks across the walls.
Every kinetic impact fed into his All-Spark core, charging his blade with crackling rings of violet energy.
"Target displaying kinetic absorption traits," the lead droid calculated in a monotone synth.
"Switching to thermal suppression ordnance and micro-missile salvos."
The two rear droids opened their shoulder pods, launching twelve tracking micro-missiles that spiraled through the rainy air toward Leo and Bekka.
"Get down!" Bekka shouted, trying to push herself up despite the pain lancing through her collarbone.
Leo did not wait for the missiles to reach the ground: he reached out with his left hand, activating Umbral Kinetics with a telekinetic wrench.
A web of invisible shadow tendrils latched onto the flight fins of eight incoming missiles, arresting their forward momentum in mid-air.
With a sweeping flick of his wrist, Leo reversed their trajectory, hurling the active warheads straight back into the rear droids’ weapon pods.
The missiles detonated inside the firing chambers, blowing the two rear machines into flaming scrap that showered the alley in hot debris.
The concussive explosion rattled the walls, blowing out third-story residential window frames above their heads.
"Impressive parlor trick, ghost boy!" Bekka shouted from his flank, pushing off the wall with explosive aerial speed.
"Now watch how a Horizon striker finishes the job!"
Despite the throbbing in her wounded shoulder, she leaped ten feet into the air, her crimson aero-gauntlets crackling with pressurized gale force.
She spun her body in mid-air, delivering an Aero-Velocity axe kick that sent a crescent blade of compressed wind whistling toward the third machine.
The pressurized gale struck the droid’s sensor neck, severing the optical cables and throwing the armored chassis onto its back.
"Cover the left flank!" she called out, landing on the wet ground before pivoting into a defensive crouch.
"I have your back," Leo replied, stepping past her in a smooth shadow glide that left a trail of dark mist in his wake.
"Stay sharp, the lead machine is attempting to re-engage with high-frequency blades."
The final hunter droid backed away, its emergency processors recalculating combat probabilities in fractions of a second.
"Target status: Critical compromise," the final droid announced, firing a pressurized capture net toward Bekka’s chest.
"Deploying stasis grid to secure the target."
The electrified mesh expanded in mid-air, wrapping around her torso and slamming her back against the wall with high-voltage shocks.
Bekka winced in agony as blue electricity locked her muscles, the conductive cables searing through her torn jacket.
"Ghost!" she cried out, her chest tensing as the droid raised its thermal forearm blade for an execution strike.
"Do not worry about me, cut its power core!"
Leo’s posture shifted into a predatory, low-slung glide as dark ether surged through his limbs.
He activated Phantom Greaves, crossing thirty feet of alleyway before the machine could complete its downward thrust.
He slid beneath the machine’s guard, scooping Bekka by her waist with his left arm while drawing the Null Razor in an upward vertical slash.
The Phase-Edge blade flickered with spatial distortion, ignoring the droid’s armor and slicing cleanly through the central processing unit and battery bank.
With a fluid reverse-grip flick, he severed the high-voltage cables pinning Bekka, slicing through the electrified net without touching a thread of her clothing.
The last hunter droid toppled backward, exploding into a shower of harmless grey sparks.

Leo held Bekka securely against his chest, feeling her rapid heartbeat and the warmth of her breath against his neck.
She leaned her weight into his arm, her breathing ragged as the lingering electric shocks faded from her nerves.
She looked up into the dark fabric of his mask, her chest heaving as she gripped his lapel with trembling fingers.
"You really do not leave people behind, do you?" she murmured softly, her proud posture softening with genuine relief.
"I do not leave my allies behind," he answered gently, his arm tightening around her waist to support her weight.
"Especially not heroes who have the courage to stand up against their own corrupt council."
"The council will declare me a rogue hero by morning," she said, a bitter note touching her voice as she leaned closer against his chest.
"Olympus Corporation owns half the votes on the disciplinary board."
"Then let them declare you rogue," he replied quietly, meeting her gaze with steady conviction.
"A title from corrupt politicians does not define who you are."
"I spent my youth training to earn that badge," she whispered, resting her forehead against his collar as a stray tear mixed with the rain on her cheek.
"And it took a vigilante from the slums to show me what real strength looks like."
"You already had the strength, Bekka," he told her softly.
"You just needed a cause worth fighting for."
Above the alley rooftops, the roar of jet turbines tore through the stormy clouds.
A black Olympus gunship descended through the mist, its thermal targeting laser locking onto their position in the narrow passage.
"Hostile signatures confirmed in sector seven," the gunship pilot broadcast over external comms.
"Firing cluster thermite missiles to sterilize the alleyway."
Two missile pods rotated downward from the gunship’s wings, their ignition flares igniting with orange light.
"Look out!" Bekka cried, pressing her face against his shoulder as the missiles detached from the pylons.
"Hold onto me tightly," he ordered calmly, feeling the surge of his newly leveled shadow pool pulse through his veins.
"Where are we going?" she asked in a breathless whisper.
"Somewhere Olympus Corporation will never find you," he replied, meeting her gaze with reassurance.
Leo stepped into the puddle beneath their feet, activating Shadow-Step in full unison with his expanded core.
The puddle expanded into a void of swirling purple ether, pulling both of them downward through the ground a split-second before the missiles struck.
The entire alleyway erupted into an inferno of thermite fire, collapsing the surrounding walls into smoking rubble.
Above the burning crater, the gunship hovered motionless in the rain, its thermal sensors scanning empty ashes as the Ghost and the fallen hero vanished without a trace.
