Spotlights cut through the rainy mist of the District 9 freight terminal, painting locomotives in harsh illumination.

Corporate news drones hovered above the tracks, broadcasting live feeds to millions of viewers across District 1.

At the center of the loading platform stood Gild, basking in the attention as cameras captured every angle of his polished gold power armor.

"Citizens of the upper districts can rest easy tonight," Gild declared into a hovering microphone, flashing a practiced smile.

"The Hero Association will not tolerate illegal vigilantes terrorizing our essential infrastructure."

Behind the security barricades, Bekka stood with her arms crossed tightly over her chest, seething with disgust.

She looked at the displaced dockworkers shivering in the rain while corporate aides touched up Gild’s appearance between broadcast takes.

"He did not care about District 9 when syndicate enforcers were kidnapping nurses from the clinic," she muttered under her breath.

"Now that there is a camera crew and sponsor bonuses on the line, he acts like he owns the district."

"That is corporate heroes for you, Kestrel," Cole said quietly, stepping up beside her in his work jacket.

"Gild’s handlers do not care about catching criminals, they care about selling branded energy drinks and keeping their stock prices high."

"The whole spectacle makes me sick," she answered, glancing at the line of tactical security enforcers pushing back unarmed dock laborers.

"These workers lost their livelihoods during the raid, and Olympus Corporation is treating the ruins like an entertainment set."

"Look at the banners hanging from the mobile command van," Cole pointed out with a bitter grimace.

"They are running live stock ticker feeds underneath the broadcast so corporate executives can bet on the outcome."

"And the Hero Association council just lets Olympus Corporation treat the slums like a testing ground," she said with a clenched jaw.

"It makes me question why I ever put on this pro hero badge in the first place."

"Hold onto your badge, Kestrel," Cole advised softly, watching the perimeter lights flicker against the clouds.

"This district needs protectors who actually care about the people, not golden statues looking for endorsements."

"Did you find out what they planted near the freight transformers?" she asked, lowering her voice as corporate security officers walked past.

"It is an ether resonance trap," Cole warned, gesturing toward the humming silver pylon bolted to the central generator.

"The moment the Ghost steps within fifty yards of that platform, the beacon will lock his shadow pool and trigger a stasis cage."

"They are trying to paralyze him on live television so Gild can stage an effortless takedown," she realized with growing alarm.

"Gild knows he cannot win a fair fight against someone who dismantled Flint’s top gladiators in the Pit."

Bekka slipped her hand into her tactical pouch, pulling out her private burner phone with practiced speed.

She typed an encrypted warning across the hidden channel: "Gild rigged an ether dampening pylon at the central rail platform. Stay clear of the tracks."

Three seconds later, the screen chimed with a calm reply: "I see the beacon. Stay behind the blast perimeter."

Bekka looked up at the surrounding rooftops in realization, her chest tightening as the ambient temperature began to drop.

A cool draft swept through the freight yard, causing the rain to swirl in tightening spirals around the high crane towers.

Out on the gantry forty feet above the terminal floor, dark mist pooled along the rusted beams.

Leo crouched in the shadows of the overhead crane, watching the media spectacle unfold below with analytical focus.

Beside his soles, Kage materialized from the darkness, the void stalker’s low growl vibrating through their mental bond.

Gild raised his golden gauntlets toward the hovering news drones, charging his solar laser emitters with a high-pitched hum.

"I am giving the Ghost sixty seconds to step forward and surrender his unregistered core," Gild announced to the cameras, striking a stance.

"If he refuses, my automated defense grid will purge every shadow in this rail yard with concentrated solar fire."

"You talk too much, gold boy," a calm, chilling voice echoed from the overhead crane, cutting through the hum of the broadcast drones.

The entire terminal fell dead silent as fifty camera drones whipped around, focusing their lenses on the gantry.

Leo stepped out onto the narrow beam, his dark coat snapping in the wind as purple ether coiled around his arms.

Kage stepped beside him, the twelve-foot shadow beast baring its fangs as black mist rolled off its muscular shoulders.

The sight of the vigilante standing alongside a monstrous void stalker sent a wave of panic through the PR crew.

"There he is!" the lead reporter shouted into her microphone, her voice trembling as the live viewer count skyrocketed into the millions.

"The Ghost of District 9 has answered the challenge!"

Gild’s charming smile vanished, replaced by an ugly scowl of irritation as the cameras captured his momentary flinch.

"You arrogant slum rat," Gild snarled over his external loudspeaker, activating the ether pylon on the platform.

"You walked into my containment grid, and your vigilante game ends tonight!"

The silver pylon flared with blinding white radiance, unleashing an expanding shockwave of ether-suppressing frequencies across the tracks.

The dockworkers shouted in pain, clutching their temples as the high-frequency whine resonated through their skulls.

Leo did not flinch, nor did he lose a fraction of his footing on the crane.

He reached forward with his left hand, activating Umbral Kinetics to latch onto the silver beacon from forty feet away.

With a single flick of his wrist, the telekinetic tether ripped the pylon out of its bolted floor mounts, crushing the delicate circuitry in mid-air.

The shattered beacon exploded in a shower of sparks before clattering harmlessly against the rails.

Gild stared in disbelief at the destroyed trap, his golden gauntlets trembling with sudden fury.

The corporate director behind the broadcast van yelled into his headset, frantically trying to cut the feed before stock shares dropped.

"Keep the cameras rolling!" Gild roared into his comms, stepping forward as solar energy flared along his chest armor.

"I will personally break this vigilante into pieces on national television!"

Leo drew his weapon from the Phase-Catalyst sheath, the dark crescent blade humming with spatial distortion as he stepped off the crane.

He dropped forty feet through the rain, landing on the central platform in front of the live cameras without making a single sound.

"Your toys are broken, Gild," Leo said quietly, pointing the Phase-Edge blade at the golden breastplate.

"Let us see what remains of your sponsorship contract when I strip that suit off your back."
