My Child and I Married a Billionaire

Chapter 442: Having Them Figured Out

  • Next Chapter

So, the uncle exchanged WeChat contacts with her, took her to see an apartment owned by a landlord he knew, and helped her pay the deposit and three months’ rent upfront.

The woman told him she’d been divorced for years and was still single. The uncle was so sure he had it in the bag that he figured he’d definitely be able to come over to her place that night. From then on, this would be his little love nest.

Just then, Faye Fisher gave the woman a call.

The woman put on an act. "Cousin, you’re back? Oh, I’m here, I’m here, I’m right near your place. A welcome dinner for me tonight? Uncle and Auntie are waiting for me at home too? Okay, okay, I’ll head right over. No need, no need to come out and get me, I’ll be there in a second."

After hanging up, she fluttered her big eyes at the uncle.

"My cousin wants me to come to her place for dinner. She’s the one who referred me here, so I really have to go say hello. I’m afraid I won’t have time to thank you properly tonight. Let’s talk on WeChat, and we can sort out the rest when we see each other tomorrow, okay?"

The uncle wasn’t about to be unreasonable.

"Alright, alright. Since your family is waiting, you should get going."

"Thank you for helping with the apartment, big brother. Tomorrow I’ll just need to buy a few things to get settled, and then I can move in. I’ll have you over once I’m all set up."

The woman’s sweet-talking left the uncle overjoyed. She turned into an alley and vanished from his sight.

Only after watching the uncle head home, phone in hand and looking pleased with himself, did Faye Fisher let the woman turn back around.

The woman got in the car and said smugly to Faye Fisher,

"As long as his part of the plan goes as smoothly as mine, I guarantee we can settle this in two days. But you did say you’d pay us for a full seven days’ work."

Faye Fisher replied, "Not a bad performance. Don’t worry, I’m a woman of my word."

Next up was the male actor.

Not wanting to drag his partner down, and eager to get paid, he took a risk. He got out of the car, ducked into an alley for a few minutes, and returned beaming, phone in hand.

"I got it. The number for that guy’s wife."

"Didn’t that girl say they’ve lived here for years? You just have to mention ’the couple that delivers food,’ and everyone knows who you’re talking about. Getting their number was a piece of cake."

Then, right in front of Faye Fisher, he ordered takeout and specifically requested that the aunt be the one to deliver it.

Watching the app show that the driver had accepted the order and was on her way, the man had the women move to the back seat and drove the car onto the road.

After about five minutes on the road, Faye Fisher spotted her: the aunt, wearing a delivery driver’s uniform and speeding toward them on her electric scooter.

"That’s her, that’s her."

The man acted in a flash, wrenching the steering wheel and aiming the car straight for the aunt.

Sensing the car hurtling toward her, seemingly out of control, the aunt instinctively swerved aside, only to crash into the guardrail, completely trapped.

Her heart nearly stopped from fright. She sat on her scooter, screaming in terror. Thankfully, just a second before impact, the man slammed on the brakes.

The aunt was drenched in a cold sweat. The man brought the car to a stop, rolled down the window, and looked over at her.

"I’m so sorry, I must have zoned out for a second. I almost hit you. Are you okay?"

The aunt shrieked, "How could I be okay? You scared me to death! How are you even driving in broad daylight? Oh my God, it’s a good thing I’m lucky, or else you...!"

Her scooter’s handlebar was wedged in the guardrail. As she continued to yell, the man got out of the car and gently pulled the vehicle free for her.

The aunt was still sitting on it. As the man pulled, he spoke in a gentle, humble tone.

"I’m so sorry. It’s all my fault for scaring you. I feel terrible. Please, don’t be angry. You’re too pretty to be frowning."

The aunt froze, thinking she must have misheard him.

She was in her forties or fifties and had been working hard her whole life. She’d never once put on makeup or dressed up. Day in and day out, she was out in the elements, her skin tanned dark and wrinkled. Her own husband was always nagging her about her bad figure and plain looks.

She never imagined that this refined, fair-skinned man would actually call her beautiful.

While she was still in a daze, the man finished pulling her scooter free, put down the kickstand, and looked at her with a grin.

"You’re a delivery driver? Such a tough job... why would a woman like you be doing this? I can’t stand to see women working so hard. On top of that, I almost hit you... I’m so sorry. Here, let me send you some money as an apology."

Before the aunt could even process what was happening, her hand had already pulled out her phone.

The man was very generous. "Just give me your phone number. I’ll add you on WeChat and send the money over. Is that okay?"

Blushing, the aunt recited her phone number.

As soon as he heard it, he said, "Wait, that number seems so familiar, like I’ve seen it before. What are you delivering? Let me see."

"What a coincidence! The order you’re carrying is the one I placed. No wonder that number looked familiar! I specifically glanced at the driver’s number after my order was accepted. It was you all along."

Usually, the aunt just handed over the food and the customer would leave. This was the first time a customer had ever spoken to her so much.

Especially such a well-dressed, clean-cut man.

She could feel her heart pounding.

"Really? What a coincidence. Well, in that case, I can just give it to you now. No need to go all the way to the destination."

"Sure, sure. This must be fate. Thanks for all your hard work."

The man took the takeout and transferred 500 yuan to her via WeChat.

"Take this for now. If you feel any pain or discomfort later, just message me anytime, and I’ll take you to the hospital for a check-up. Don’t worry, I’m a responsible person. You can come to me with any issues."

With that, he turned to get back into his car, but just before he did, he took the aunt’s hand and examined it.

"You scraped your hand here, didn’t you? The skin’s broken. Let me send you some more money. I really am so sorry."

’He’s touching my rough hand with his own big, clean, gentle one?’

"Oh no, that’s not necessary."

The aunt was blushing crimson.

"This little scratch is nothing. You’re being too kind."

The man said, "It’s not me being kind, it’s you being understanding. Anyone else would have tried to shake me down for a lot of money after a scare like that. I never would have expected... You’re so beautiful, and so considerate. Forgive me for asking, but are you single? Any man would be overjoyed to have a partner like you."

The aunt was utterly flabbergasted.

’She was actually this wonderful in another man’s eyes?’

After saying his piece, the man genuinely looked like he was about to leave.

"Sorry, I’m holding up traffic. I’ve got to move my car. Let’s leave it at that for now, but message me if anything comes up."

Long after the car had driven off, the aunt could still be seen standing there, staring dazedly in its direction. Inside the car, the man smiled smugly.

"Tomorrow afternoon at the latest. Just wait for the show. That husband and wife are going to be at each other’s throats."

You had to admit, this pair of actors really knew what they were doing.

By the time Faye Fisher drove back to the film studio complex, there were already new developments on WeChat.

The woman reported, "Miss Fisher, I’ve made a date with the guy. We’re having lunch tomorrow, then hanging out in the afternoon."

The man chimed in, "I’ve got a date with the woman, too. A minute ago she was saying she was fine, but now she’s asking me to take her to the hospital. A hospital? I think what she really wants is for me to take her to a hotel. Miss Fisher, which hotel should it be? You pick the spot."

Faye Fisher shot a smug look at Amina, raising her eyebrows.

"See that? Problem solved."

"Tomorrow, I want you to fan the flames. Don’t stop until they’ve beaten each other bloody and their family is in ruins."
