Chapter 920 920: Eavesdropping
Yuan and the others were having tea and pastries. The Vampire King had specifically ordered the servants to prepare suitable food for them, as vampires had a different diet that was not appropriate for other races.
“I never thought there would come a day when I’d be sipping tea in a vampire’s castle,” Yuan said with a soft smile, bringing the cup to his lips.
“Me neither… This is quite unusual, considering the fact that I’m an angel,” Selvariel added while nodding.
“Oh, right. You angels are enemies of anyone from the Demonic Continent. I almost forgot about that,” Yuan chuckled.
“Indeed,” Selvariel smiled faintly and said, “We consider demons, vampires, succubi, werewolves, undead, and ghouls to be unholy creatures. Their very existence is seen as blasphemy against this world.”
“At least, that’s what the gods from the High Heavens told us to believe… and we took their words to heart, allowing hatred to grow within us.”
“Because of that hatred, we waged war against these so-called unholy beings at the gods’ command. They ordered us to purge the evil within the Demonic Continent and bring peace to the world,” Selvariel explained with a heavy sigh.
Yuan and the others fell silent after hearing this, looking at Selvariel with genuine pity.
Nerith gritted her teeth in frustration, her eyes flashing briefly with anger as fury toward the gods surged within her.
“Those so-called gods… they are the true evil of this world! And yet they portray us as villains. We have not harmed the innocent, nor have we waged war against humanity,” Nerith said, clenching her fists tightly.
“Bring peace to the world? How laughable. It sounds more like an excuse for world domination,” she sneered coldly before finishing her entire cup of tea in one go.
“I couldn’t agree more with you, Princess Nerith.”
Suddenly, King Evander’s voice resounded through the room as he entered with a small smile.
“They are a group of ambitious fools… dreaming of ruling the world,” he said as he took a seat on the sofa. “They want the entire world to worship them, serve them like attendants, and follow their every command like slaves.”
“Because we—the people of the Demonic Continent—stood in their way, they tried to remove us. To erase us from existence so their ambitions could come true and they could become rulers of the entire world.”
“They seek control over all creation… to command the world at their fingertips. They want to become true gods,” King Evander said firmly, his anger plainly visible.
“So, you were listening to our conversation, Your Majesty?” Nerith asked with an awkward expression, feeling slightly uneasy about being overheard.
“I only caught part of it, so rest assured. Besides, we share the same sentiments toward the gods,” King Evander replied with a faint smile.
He then looked at Yuan and the others and asked, “Was the tea to your liking? We do not have much experience with human cuisine, as we rarely partake in such food.”
“It was fine, but there’s no need to trouble yourself for us. You already have a heavy responsibility to carry,” Anna Grace said with a friendly smile.
“How could I not? Since you are Emperor Rhex’s guests, you are my guests as well,” King Evander replied with a soft chuckle.
He then looked at Nerith, his expression turning serious as he took a deep breath.
“All the heads of the noble houses of my kingdom are on their way here. Within a few hours, they will arrive at the castle. Once they are gathered, we will begin discussing strategies for the upcoming war,” he said to her, his tone grave.
“Much appreciated for your efforts, Your Majesty. It will be a good idea to discuss the key details with everyone present,” Nerith nodded with a satisfied smile.
“It’s nothing. We have been forced into this situation—if we don’t act quickly, we will all perish once the Undead King’s army crosses the border,” King Evander said with a heavy sigh.
“So, where will you be heading next? The Succubus Kingdom or the Werewolf Kingdom?” he asked with curiosity.
“The Succubus Kingdom. They are far more troublesome to deal with than those overgrown dogs,” Nerith replied with a soft chuckle.
“Hmph! That bunch of overgrown dogs only seem to know how to produce children. I’ve heard that Lucan’s eldest son is currently searching for a bride,” King Evander said, letting out an amused chuckle.
He continued, “However, because of how many children he already has, no female werewolf wants to become his concubine. This has caused Lucan quite a bit of trouble—he can’t even keep track of his own son.”
“Lord Lucan… I remember him being rather kind-hearted. I never expected his eldest son to turn into such a lustful creature,” Nerith laughed, shaking her head slightly.
“He cannot possibly oversee all of his children. He already has over fifty sons and twenty-eight daughters, and I’ve heard his wife is pregnant again—another four or five children on the way,” King Evander revealed with a laugh, nearly bursting out.
“What?! Doesn’t he know when to stop? He already has too many children, and more are still coming… this is just ridiculous,” Nerith said, shaking her head in disbelief.
Yuan and the others appeared stunned after hearing this. They were simply too shocked, standing there dumbfounded.
“Just what in the world am I even hearing? Over seventy children and it’s still not enough… This is utterly ridiculous,” Yuan muttered, his voice filled with disbelief.
“This is simply unbelievable… How could someone have so many children? Wouldn’t it become completely chaotic? How could they even manage that many?!” Angela covered her mouth, her eyes wide.
“Lucan has over ten wives, so having so many children is not a problem for him. Besides, werewolves are rather lustful creatures and frequently go into heat,” King Evander explained.
“I see… No wonder he has so many children, and his eldest son turned out that way,” Yuan nodded in understanding.
King Evander then looked at the women beside Yuan, then back at Yuan himself, and with a smirk said, “You, on the other hand, seem to have quite an appetite for women as well.”
“I would say that most of these women are your wives, am I correct?” he asked, looking directly into Yuan’s eyes.
“Indeed,” Yuan nodded proudly and explained, “Aside from Miss Zara and her daughter Lady Nyx, Selvariel, and Lady Long Yuyan, the rest of the women are my wives.”
“So many? I didn’t expect someone so young to have so many women. You are quite the womanizer, Yuan,” King Evander laughed, clearly surprised.
“I wouldn’t call myself a womanizer. I don’t flirt carelessly or abandon people… These are women I genuinely care about,” Yuan clarified calmly.
