Chapter 869: Commander Ragnar

Chapter 869: Commander Ragnar

“Unbelievable! Lord Cassius is dead?!”

“Who could possibly be powerful enough to kill someone like him?! This is completely unbelievable!”

“Lord Cassius died in the territory of the Green Viper Organization! People who witnessed his death are saying that Lady Nyx’s daughter was the one who killed him!”

“What?! Lady Nyx’s daughter killed him?! How is that even possible?!”

The people of the Lawless City murmured in disbelief in every street, and conversations about this shocking event echoed throughout the city.

Meanwhile, at the headquarters of the Red Dragon Syndicate, an eerie silence filled the air. Every member stood frozen in shock after hearing the devastating news of their leader’s death.

The members whispered among themselves, doubting the authenticity of the news at first. But as they listened to the city’s endless chatter, they realized that their worst fears were true—their leader was indeed dead.

What shocked them the most was not just his death, but the fact that he wasn’t killed by Lady Nyx herself, but by a mere girl—a humiliation that tainted the syndicate’s once fearsome reputation.

It was a stain that could never be erased, no matter how many people they killed to avenge him.

The commander of the organization—the right-hand man of Cassius—was consumed with fury after receiving confirmation of Cassius’s death.

“Damn it! How could a mere girl kill someone like the leader?! Is this some kind of joke?!” he roared in anger, kicking a chair so hard that it shattered into countless pieces in an instant.

Ragnar, the right-hand man of Cassius, was just as vicious and brutal as his late leader. He was the second-strongest man in the entire syndicate, and his authority stood only below Cassius’s.

Both had shared the same twisted ideology and committed countless atrocities together, destroying entire families without remorse.

“L-Lord Commander…we have no idea how that bitch killed our lord…we’re still trying to figure it out,” one of the members stammered, his voice trembling in fear.

Upon hearing this, Ragnar’s rage flared even more, his face twisted with madness.

“Useless fools!” he roared furiously before striking the man with a powerful kick, sending him crashing against the wall and knocking him unconscious instantly.

The other members trembled in terror, keeping their heads lowered, afraid to even breathe too loudly. No one dared to look up, fearing they might be the next to be punished.

“Does anyone here have any idea how that girl managed to kill our leader?! Speak, before I lose my patience!” Ragnar roared, his voice echoing throughout the hall like thunder.

He wanted answers now. Answers about how Cassius got himself killed by a girl—a woman. This was the worst humiliation the Red Dragon Syndicate could ever face.

Now that their leader was dead, slain by a mere girl, the Red Dragon Syndicate would become the new laughingstock of the entire Beast Continent.

“W-We have no idea, my lord… please forgive us for our incompetence.” Another member of the Red Dragon Syndicate stammered in a trembling voice, his legs shaking as well.

“That’s right, my lord. We know almost nothing about that girl at all,” another added.

Then a third spoke up, “We only know that she is the daughter of the leader of the Green Viper Organization. Aside from that, we don’t know anything.”

“How incompetent of you… to think the Red Dragon Syndicate has fallen this low in such a short time… how embarrassing.” Ragnar gritted his teeth, furious at the incompetence of his subordinates.

Unfortunately, there was nothing he could do about it. Punishing the members would only bring misfortune, as they might rebel and join other organizations, leaking secrets that must never be revealed.

Killing them was an option, but doing so would only worsen the situation of the organization. Thirty members had already died alongside Cassius.

Killing more would weaken the syndicate even further. And at that point, they would become the target of other organizations—big or small—everyone would bare their fangs against the Red Dragon Syndicate.

The smaller organizations wouldn’t let such a heaven-sent opportunity slip by. They would not hesitate to take risks to climb into the ranks of the upper-class organizations.

Just like a pack of wolves surrounding a wounded tiger. That was how it had always been, and it would always remain so.

At this point, many lower-class organizations had already begun making moves after catching the scent of blood… just like a school of hungry piranhas.

Ragnar had already sensed the situation, and because of this, he was extremely cautious about how he should act from now on.

’The problem has already started brewing… it won’t be long before those hungry, lowly scums make their move against us openly, challenging us for position…’ Ragnar thought, a serious look on his face before scratching the back of his head.

’It seems I have no choice but to take charge of the organization as the new leader… Cassius, you bastard, you’re nothing but a headache…’ He sighed before shaking his head.

He turned to his men with a heavy sigh, and then his expression suddenly turned very serious.

“All of you, go and inform everyone to keep a close eye on the territory and increase the security in the city immediately!” he shouted, his tone carrying a sharp edge of command.

“Also, if you notice any movements from other organizations within the city, eliminate them all as soon as possible.”

He gave a firm order, and the members of the Red Dragon Syndicate immediately nodded before leaving the room in haste.

Once the members left, Ragnar sat down at the table, as the previous chair had been destroyed by him a few moments earlier.

“Now then… what should I do? Should I focus on avenging that bastard? Or should I focus on strengthening the organization?” he muttered aloud, his gaze fixed on the ceiling with a thoughtful look on his face.

Inside a bright and spacious room filled with luxurious and rare ornamental decorations, a man was sitting on an exquisite sofa with a small grin on his face.

On the table before him, a massive pile of gold coins was scattered, and he was leisurely counting the money. The amount was so vast that the table could barely contain it all.

“The brothels have made me earn quite a large sum this month… it surpassed the previous income by a huge margin,” he muttered to himself with a sly grin.

“People are so eager to sleep with a beautiful woman… it’s far too easy to make them pay more willingly with pleasure… it’s simply too easy to manipulate them with lust.”

“When lust is involved… people often lose their sanity. As long as they can spend a night with a beautiful woman, they’ll pay any amount without hesitation. A fine business, in my opinion. Heh…” He chuckled softly before storing all the money inside his magic pouch.

“I’ve heard something big is happening in the Green Viper Organization’s territory. I wonder what the cause of all that ruckus is…” he mused, a thoughtful expression appearing on his face.

Even though he owned the largest information network, obtaining intel from the eastern district of the Lawless City was not easy. That part of the district was heavily guarded by the members of the Green Viper Organization.

Suddenly, the door opened, and a seductive woman entered the room with a wide smile on her face. She was wearing revealing clothes that barely concealed her alluring figure.

“My Lord, I’ve got some juicy news for you, and I’m sure you’ll be quite pleased after hearing it,” the woman said excitedly as she settled herself on the sofa next to Darius.

“Oh? What do you have, Natalia? Is it related to the Green Viper Organization?” Darius raised his brows with a curious look on his face, clearly eager to know.

“Indeed, my lord. It’s just as you expected.” The woman, Natalia, nodded with a smile before leaning gently against him.

She then began to explain the situation to Darius without delay. Her voice was soft and alluring, and Darius couldn’t help but wrap an arm around her as he listened intently to every word.

A faint smile curved Natalia’s lips, yet without letting herself get distracted, she continued to focus on telling him everything she had learned about the situation in the eastern district of the city.

“Now, the leader of the Red Dragon Syndicate and thirty of its members are dead. Gone without leaving any trace behind.” Natalia concluded her explanation with a seductive smile still on her face.

“Gone? How so? Were they all killed by a powerful spell? Perhaps a Divine Spell?” Darius asked, raising his brows in confusion, clearly expecting more details from her.

“I’m not too sure,” Natalia replied, shaking her head with a puzzled expression. “I didn’t see it with my own eyes, so I can’t be certain.”

Then she continued, “People who witnessed the scene said Cassius and his men suddenly turned pitch black before melting into a pile of black gunk. After that, they evaporated like water.”

“I also found out that it was Lady Nyx’s daughter—the one who had been missing and only just reappeared—who killed them.”

“However, what’s puzzling is that no one seems to have sensed any magic at all. They described it as if it happened naturally—a truly mysterious phenomenon.” Natalia’s explanation ended, leaving Darius visibly intrigued and puzzled by the report.

“How very strange… no trace of mana, not even the faintest presence of magic being used… Cassius’s death seems to hide a great mystery.” He muttered in a low voice, a thoughtful expression clouding his face.

After thinking for a while, he stood up and walked toward the shelf where many fancy wine bottles were displayed—hundreds of them, in fact.

He picked a random bottle, along with two glasses, one for himself and one for Natalia.

While cleaning the neck of the bottle with a black cloth, he glanced at Natalia and asked, “Nyx’s daughter… have you found anything about her? Like what kind of person she is or where she has been until now?”

“I-I didn’t find much about her.” Natalia shook her head and said, “From what I gathered, it appears that she only arrived on our continent very recently. And she has been seen in multiple locations with a group of people.”

“In fact, she was here almost a week ago, with that same group.” She added with a small smile on her face.

“Oh? And why did she come here? Looking for her mother?”

“No. Not at all.” Natalia shook her head again with a smile. “She was here with the group, seeking information about the Dark Continent. I think they were planning to head there soon.”

“Is that so… The Dark Continent, huh?” Darius took a deep breath, then sat down on the sofa and handed her a glass. “I haven’t heard that name in a long time. I almost forgot it even existed.”

“Only a fool would decide to go there… only death awaits anyone who dares set foot in that cursed land,” Natalia said, her expression turning serious, her tone dark and filled with danger.
