Chapter 639: Never to Be Together in This Lifetime

  • Next Chapter

Claire Sinclair’s eyes became slightly sore and pained.

“Jude, even if we make up, will we never be able to return to the past, and will the scars constantly be brought up? Or even if they’re not mentioned, will they still be stuck in your heart, making you suspect my loyalty in the dead of night?”

This question wasn’t something Claire Sinclair just wanted an answer to now. Ever since she found out about the awkward familial relationship between Zion Prescott and Jude Grant, Claire understood she would inevitably face this day.

And this emotional barrier might forever stand between her and Jude Grant.

With this kind of pain present, how can such a relationship be maintained?

…

As expected, Jude Grant looked at her, gritting his teeth, with anger almost bursting from his eyes.

“Do you think it’s possible to completely forget?”

Claire Sinclair’s heart tightened, and she quickly grabbed Jude Grant’s sleeve.

“Jude! Don’t be so hasty, okay?”

“As long as you can let go, everything else is fine. I can give you time to come to terms, and I can prove to you that after Zion Prescott and I broke up years ago, there was no further possibility.”

“I can’t let go! Try being cheated on yourself!”

Claire Sinclair was left speechless.

“No, I didn’t cheat on you!”

“Hah…”

Jude Grant’s face darkened, and he remained silent.

With the atmosphere awkward, Claire Sinclair felt clarity slowly emerging in her heart.

If peace couldn’t be found in the future, then maybe ending it all today wouldn’t be so bad.

Previously, she was like a snail, retracting into her shell, believing that as long as she didn’t speak, she could keep things concealed.

Now… it’s obvious this path has become a dead end.

…

Claire Sinclair closed her eyes, her mind filled with countless joyous moments shared with Jude Grant, but in the end, it all dissolved into confusion and grief.

“Jude, if being together doesn’t make us happy… then… let’s break up.”

She thought it would be difficult to say these words.

Zion Prescott had once repeatedly asked her to break up with Jude Grant.

But Claire Sinclair, no matter what, was unwilling to agree.

And now, Zion Prescott voluntarily stepped out of their emotional world, yet Claire found herself lost in this tumultuous romance.

What she desired was a relationship that brought joy to herself and to the one she loves.

If the relationship had flaws, as long as both could forget and move forward, it wouldn’t be an issue.

But now, clearly, it is a pipe dream.

…

Rather than becoming a pair of bitterly resentful lovers, Claire Sinclair would rather let go of this grievance with Jude Grant early on.

Even if the pain in her heart was as if pierced by a thousand arrows.

…

Jude Grant clearly did not expect that the pleading Claire Sinclair would so easily say the words break up.

He stared blankly at Claire Sinclair, almost doubting his own hearing.

“Claire Sinclair, no, Claire, do you know what you’re saying?!”

He shook Claire Sinclair’s arm vigorously, the anger in his heart replaced instantly by panic.

“Claire, I never thought I’d lose you; you absolutely cannot leave me!”

“I can’t leave you?”

Claire Sinclair gave a wry smile.

Though her lips curled upwards, which should have signified endless joy, somehow a bittersweet tear spilled from the corner of her eye, trailing down her cheek, tainting the sweet smile with profound bitterness.

“Jude, stop being impulsive. You yourself admitted you could never forgive me and Zion Prescott for the past deceit. Even with our repeated explanations, you can’t forget today’s humiliation and pain. That will inevitably be an indelible crisis for us.”

“Even if we live happily in the future, as long as from time to time resentment arises between us, you’ll remember today’s pain. Such a future is without brightness.”

“No… it won’t be…”

Jude Grant was startled by Claire Sinclair’s earnest tone; he never imagined a woman could be so unyielding when being heartless.

Just hours ago, they could still chat sweetly together and snuggle while watching a movie.

Yet now, she could rationally analyze the future like this.

Did Claire Sinclair, indeed, have a bit of affection for him?

…

Jude Grant fell into deep confusion, coupled with boundless rage.

“Didn’t you say you wouldn’t contact my uncle again? If he won’t affect us, Claire, what are you afraid of?”

“Afraid you can’t get over it.”

“Is that important?! Can you guarantee you’ll forget?”

Meeting the man’s eyes, Claire Sinclair didn’t back down even a step. She steadily let go of Jude Grant’s hand on her shoulder, her voice clear and determined with each word.

“Isn’t that important?”

“Jude, I admit I wronged you before, but that was because I had my secrets. I never cheated or was unfaithful; you don’t need to feel that your hat’s color has changed.”

“I understand you still like me, just as my feelings for you haven’t changed, but we can no longer be together.”

“Why?!”

Jude Grant felt tangled by Claire Sinclair’s words.

“Because I don’t want us to torment each other.”

Claire Sinclair gave a faint, bitter smile, and then, firmly retracted her hand, turning to leave.

Jude Grant wanted to reach out and hold her back, but Claire Sinclair had already sprinted across the street, and Jude was stunned to see her get into a taxi.

Quickly disappearing down the road.

All around turned silent.

Jude Grant stood affixed in place, bewildered.

Suddenly he thought of his uncle.

He vaguely remembers relatives criticizing Zion Prescott’s first love to him, at the time unaware it was Claire Sinclair, but loosely recalling comments about her being a heartless woman, merely wasting Zion Prescott’s sincere affections.

…

So, back then Claire Sinclair could abandon Zion Prescott so easily.

And now, she can casually give up on him the same way?

How much value does he hold in Claire Sinclair’s heart?

Blood vessels in Jude Grant’s eyes became increasingly prominent.

After pondering for a long time, coming to his senses, he immediately called Claire Sinclair.

The other side showed the phone was off.

Clearly, if Claire Sinclair hadn’t actually turned it off, then she must have blocked him.

When women are ruthless, they’re far more heartless and unfeeling than men.

Jude Grant closed his eyes, finally forcing himself to stifle the heartbreak and sent a text message.

—— Fine, you can break up with me, but for the rest of your life, you can’t be with my uncle!

Also a loser, yet Jude Grant refuses to allow the two of them to flaunt their relationship in front of him!

…

While sitting in the car, Claire Sinclair saw the text message.

She laughed sadly, tears suddenly rolling down.

—— In the end, Jude Grant still doesn’t believe that she and Zion Prescott have long since ceased to be a possibility.

The driver, seeing Claire Sinclair this way, was visibly alarmed.

“Young lady, where exactly do you want to go?”
