Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride

Chapter 1705 Where the Gaze Falls, There Lies Eternity—How Could One Dislike Their Own Child?

  • Next Chapter

On this weekend afternoon, Daxton Lancaster called over his brother Joseph Lancaster, ordered a few dishes from the kitchen to accompany their drinks, and the two brothers drank together. Violet Zimmerman had a simple meal and then took the two children upstairs to their room.

After taking a sip of white wine, Daxton Lancaster uttered a sound of satisfaction, picked up his chopsticks, and reached for the plate of peanuts, saying meaningfully, “Joseph, you’re not young anymore. You should find a woman. When you have a wife, big brother will be at ease.”

Joseph Lancaster also put down his wine cup, with a slight smile on his face. The two brothers had similar tastes, so he also picked up his chopsticks to take a peanut.

“Big brother, don’t worry about me. I’m not a kid!”

Daxton Lancaster tossed a peanut into his mouth, rested his chopsticks, and placed both hands on his knees, chewing and sighing.

“Well, that’s easy to say, but as long as you’re not settled, big brother keeps thinking about it. Even though there are servants in your house, it’s ultimately not the same as having a woman. If you marry a wife, you’ll have someone to chat with at night, someone to warm your bed!”

Joseph Lancaster also put down his chopsticks, his phoenix eyes resting on the herbal medicine on the dining table, his lips curling into a smile, “Big brother, I think being alone is quite nice. It’s quiet, no noise, and it allows me to think things through.”

While Joseph Lancaster spoke, Daxton Lancaster kept his eyes fixed on Joseph’s face, taking in the softness of his brows, eyes, and lips.

Normally, a twenty-four-year-old man without a girlfriend would have a sense of loss, but Joseph Lancaster’s lips revealed a subtle happiness.

Daxton Lancaster knew clearly that the reason his brother wasn’t dating a girlfriend certainly had something to do with his wife Violet Zimmerman.

Although they hadn’t done anything openly since Violet became pregnant with Evander, behind the scenes… If they said they’d done nothing, he wouldn’t believe it.

Joseph Lancaster is not young anymore, twenty-four years old. Many men at this age already have children who can buy soy sauce. My brother says being alone is good, it’s quiet, no disturbances. If he really liked being alone, why would he often stay at his place for hours until Robert reluctantly left?

Daxton Lancaster’s phoenix eyes squinted unconsciously, looking at his brother opposite him. Suddenly, he raised his phoenix eyes, took a breath, and picked up the wine cup.

“Come, Joseph, let’s have another drink. You say liking quiet now might be because the right person hasn’t come along. When the day comes that you meet a woman you like, you won’t think this way!”

Joseph Lancaster brought his mind back, picked up his wine cup, and clinked it with Daxton Lancaster’s, “Maybe so. When I meet a woman I like, I’ll definitely tell big brother first!”

“Good!” Daxton Lancaster said heartily, he drank a cup of wine in one go, then said with an implied meaning.

“Joseph, not meeting a woman you like means your social circle is small, and the people you interact with are limited. You should go out and meet some business friends and attend more gatherings with friends and classmates. You’ll find that what you’ve seen before was just the sky above a well.”

Joseph Lancaster isn’t dumb. How could he not understand his big brother’s meaning? He smiled and said, “Big brother, I’ll have time, but I’m worried that even if the outside world is broader, I’ll still only like the sky above my well.”

Daxton Lancaster picked up the wine pot again, poured himself some white wine, and said nonchalantly, “Without trying, how do you know? Perhaps one day when you find your broadened horizon, you’ll realize how naive your original thoughts were.”

“Yes, big brother is right. Without trying, we can’t make any conclusions.” Joseph Lancaster amiably concurred, following along with his big brother simply to avoid troubling his son’s mother.

Upstairs in the room, Violet Zimmerman sat on the sofa knitting a sweater for her son.

The two brothers played on the big bed, and Robert Lancaster hovered around his younger brother. Wherever Evander Lancaster crawled, he followed, holding a small handkerchief in his hand. Seeing his brother drool, he’d quickly wipe it away, clearly a dutiful good brother.

“Oh… oh…”

Evander Lancaster stopped, grinned at his brother as if conversing with Robert Lancaster.

Over time, Robert Lancaster had become good at taking care of his brother. Seeing Evander “chat” with him, he propped himself up on the bed and “oh… oh…” in response.

“Oh… oh… giggle…” Evander Lancaster uttered two more “oh”s, then happily laughed, his little arms going limp as he lay on the bed looking up at Robert Lancaster, laughing nonstop.
