Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1703: Wherever the Eye Can See, There Is Eternity—Vaguely Knowing Why
Violet Zimmerman has been hospitalized for over a week. Her mother stayed in the hospital for two nights, and then Violet sent her home.
Ever since that time she returned to her parents’ home, there’s been a knot in her heart, and her mother kept lamenting how the family couldn’t do without her…
With Sister Zhang taking care of her in the hospital, her mother-in-law would also bring her son Robert Lancaster over when she had free time. Daxton Lancaster would come to the hospital to accompany her after work and only go home at night to take care of the child.
Joseph Lancaster would always come after dinner, deliberately avoiding the time Daxton is at the hospital. Not for any other reason, just to avoid making his big brother upset by his “excessive concern,” and thereby troubling Violet.
Every day at this time, only Sister Zhang is in the hospital.
With Blair Williams’ previous experience in mind, Joseph Lancaster brought a red envelope for Sister Zhang the first time he came behind Daxton’s back.
Sister Zhang is an honest person, not as greedy as Blair Williams. It took her quite a while before she accepted the bulging envelope, tears of gratitude welling up in her eyes, and she pledged her loyalty to Violet, promising to take good care of her for a lifetime…
Even though Sister Zhang is straightforward, she’s not slow-witted.
It’s normal for a brother-in-law to occasionally visit his sister-in-law in the hospital, but coming every night, especially when the family head is not around, that’s a bit unusual.
Although there were no untoward actions between the brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Sister Zhang could guess that at least the second young master has a liking for the Madam. Otherwise, he wouldn’t “bribe” her with a red envelope.
Sister Zhang is a distant relative of the Lancaster Family’s housekeeper, Uncle Xiang. She hasn’t been working with the Lancaster Family for long, and before joining, Uncle Xiang advised her to do more work and talk less, which Sister Zhang has kept in mind over the years, enabling her to have a lasting position.
They say you handle someone’s troubles when you take their money. Even if the second young master didn’t give the red envelope, she wouldn’t gossip.
Sister Zhang is not only smart but also alert. Every time Joseph Lancaster visits, she finds an excuse to go wash diapers, roughly estimating when Joseph is about to leave, she then returns with the clean diapers.
A week later, on the day Violet Zimmerman was discharged, except for Bodhi Lancaster who didn’t show up, everyone from the Lancaster Family’s main house came to the hospital to take Violet home.
Having given birth to two heirs for the main house, Violet felt like an accomplishing hero. Aurora Lancaster supported Violet the whole way, while her mother-in-law Lorelei Howard and Daxton were busy with the newborn Evander Lancaster.
Robert Lancaster was somewhat neglected, holding onto Joseph Lancaster’s big hand, walking behind. Watching the brother being cared for by their father and grandmother, he asked sullenly.
“Uncle, why did Dad and Grandma stop liking Robert after the brother was born?”
Seeing his son’s disappointed look, Joseph Lancaster bent down to lift him up and explained patiently with a gentle tone.
“They didn’t stop liking Robert. In Dad and Grandma’s hearts, Robert and his brother are equally important. The brother just arrived in this world and knows nothing, so he needs adults to care for him. Robert is already grown up and sensible, and should help Mom take care of his brother when we get home.”
“Is that true?” Robert Lancaster hugged Joseph Lancaster’s neck, asking distrustfully.
“It’s true, Uncle wouldn’t lie to you,” Joseph Lancaster said good-naturedly.
Robert looked at him with a slightly raised brow ridge that was earnest, “Uncle, do you like Robert more or the baby brother more?”
Children are sensitive and feel that when adults care more for the brother than themselves, it means they are not liked.
Joseph Lancaster understood his son’s feelings. In his heart, the two sons were equally important, but to not make the older son feel bad, he said, “Of course Uncle likes Robert more!”
“Why?” Robert was puzzled. Grandma always told him to give way to his brother, so in his little mind, adults fancy the brother more.
Joseph Lancaster rubbed his forehead against Robert’s little forehead, smiling as he said, “Because Uncle has spent more time with Robert. Robert goes to the zoo with Uncle and goes out to eat together.”
Upon hearing this, Robert laughed. Being under three years old, he hugged Joseph Lancaster’s neck and made a request.
“Uncle, Robert wants to see gorillas and giraffes.”
“Alright, Uncle will take Robert to see them on the weekend!” Joseph readily agreed.
“Robert also wants to eat chicken drumsticks, the one Uncle bought for Mom.”
“Shh… softer, or Dad will be unhappy if he hears.”
“Oh,” after being reminded, Robert nodded understandingly and placed a finger over his lips, leaning closer to Joseph’s face, whispering, “Robert also wants a piggyback ride.”
