Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride

Chapter 1702: As Far as the Eye Can See, Eternal as Heaven and Earth: Difficult Labor

  • Next Chapter

Violet Zimmerman’s due date was still in the autumn, but having had the experience with giving birth to Robert Lancaster, Lorelei Howard arranged for her to be admitted to the hospital a week in advance.

Lorelei Howard didn’t have much to do; she accompanied her during the day at the hospital, while at night, Daxton Lancaster or Sister Zhang stayed over.

Lorelei Howard suggested calling Violet Zimmerman’s mother ahead of time, to have her come and be with her daughter, but Violet Zimmerman found an excuse to avoid it.

Daxton Lancaster understood Violet Zimmerman’s thoughts and added, “Mom, Violet’s mother still needs to take care of her grandson at home. We have so many servants at home, so it’s not too late to inform them after Violet has given birth.”

Lorelei Howard compromised, “Alright, then we’ll wait for my chubby grandson to be born before calling the in-laws.”

Lorelei Howard sometimes brought Robert Lancaster to the hospital, and at other times left him with the old gentleman.

Robert Lancaster, though only two years old, was a very understanding little fellow. He knew his mother was going to have a younger brother, and every time he played with toys, he would mutter, “This is Robert’s, this is for brother, Robert has one, brother has one…”

Every time he heard his son mutter, Daxton Lancaster felt satisfied.

That’s how it should be between brothers, after all, brothers are going to accompany you for a lifetime, while a wife is just someone who joined midway.

Violet Zimmerman giving birth this year didn’t involve the large-scale gathering from two years ago, only the family from the first household. As for the second household, Daxton Lancaster said that those who cared would come over, and those who didn’t, sitting in the corridor wouldn’t be much help.

So Lorelei Howard didn’t deliberately remind Eva Hayes’s family.

They say women who’ve given birth once have a quicker time with their second, but when Violet Zimmerman started labor, things went wrong. The baby was still not born after a long time, and there was bleeding. The doctor even issued a notice for the family to sign, whether to save the mother or the child…

When Daxton Lancaster signed, Joseph Lancaster was standing by his side, his hands clenched tightly at his sides, until he saw Daxton Lancaster sign to save the mother, and only then did he slightly relax.

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Fortunately, his big brother chose Violet; otherwise, he didn’t know if he could have restrained himself from giving him a few punches!

Joseph Lancaster always considered himself composed. Even when he first took over the company and made over a million with his first deal, he didn’t show much excitement. But now, he was terribly nervous.

In the hospital’s public restroom, Daxton Lancaster had a cigarette between his fingers. Although his face showed no emotion, Joseph Lancaster knew his big brother was worried too.

Because Violet was, after all, his first wife.

Pretending to be relaxed, he asked Daxton Lancaster for a cigarette, “Big brother, give me one. I’m bored.”

Daxton Lancaster paused his smoking motion, turned to look at him, and after a long time, fished out a pack of cigarettes from the pocket of his suit pants.

Joseph Lancaster reached out to take it, pulled out a cigarette, and just as he put it in his mouth, he asked Daxton Lancaster, who was smoking by the window, “Are you nervous?”

His lighter lighting action paused, then he quickly struck it again, lit the cigarette, and exhaled smoke, pretending to be relaxed as he said, “How could I not be worried? After all, she’s my sister-in-law, my nephew’s mother.”

Daxton Lancaster glanced over at him, and Joseph Lancaster furrowed his brows, lowered his eyes, and smoked, the swirling smoke obscuring the emotions in his eyes.

This time, Violet Zimmerman’s childbirth was arduous; the baby inside seemed reluctant to come into the world. She was wheeled into the delivery room at noon and only came out at 1:30 a.m.

Lorelei Howard pulled her husband directly towards their grandson. As Daxton Lancaster listened to the doctor’s instructions, Violet Zimmerman was wheeled by the medical staff towards the ward, lying alone on the hospital bed.

Looking at her lifeless appearance, Joseph Lancaster silently made up his mind to find time to have a vasectomy, so that his woman would never suffer like this again!
