Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1700: Wherever Your Gaze Falls, There Shall Be Everlasting Love: You Must Bring Home a Wife for the New Year
Although there was no sign of anything wrong, Joseph Lancaster knew in his heart that it must be because his older brother had done something to her again, because she hadn’t conceived.
Joseph Lancaster let out a silent sigh, feeling very guilty, as his selfishness had hurt his woman.
…
Watching his brother and sister-in-law walk into the house, Joseph Lancaster also returned to his place.
As he opened the door, Lorelei Howard, who was waiting for news at home, rushed over anxiously.
“Joseph, how is Robert’s injury, is it serious?”
Bodhi Lancaster sat on the sofa, and although he wasn’t as excited as Lorelei Howard, it was clear that he was anxious to know the news.
“It’s fine, the doctor applied ointment, and it’s almost healed.”
Joseph entered and changed into slippers, tossing his car keys onto the shoe cabinet at the entrance.
Hearing that her grandson was fine, Lorelei Howard clutched her chest and let out a heavy sigh, “It’s good to hear that he’s okay, thank goodness, if something really happened to Robert, I’d blame myself for the rest of my life!”
Watching his second son come up to him, Bodhi Lancaster asked seriously, “Joseph, tell your mother and me, what’s going on with Vesper Carter!”
“Yes, we were so worried about Robert that we almost forgot about this! Joseph, what’s going on with you and Vesper Carter, why did she fall for someone else again? Is he from your company, when did this happen?”
Before Joseph could answer, Lorelei Howard rattled off a string of questions.
Joseph sat down on the sofa and said, “The man is her college classmate, they both work at my company, so they got together.”
Bodhi Lancaster looked at his son seriously, but said nothing, while Lorelei Howard nearly burst with anger.
“You say they both work at your company? Since that’s the case, why don’t you fire them!”
Joseph sighed helplessly, “Mom, how can you say that? If I fire them over this, what would the other employees think of me.”
“Let them think what they want! The company is yours, and you can make whatever decision you want!” Lorelei Howard said defiantly.
Bodhi Lancaster also asked seriously, “Joseph, what do you plan to do?”
Joseph leaned forward slightly, resting his elbows on his knees, and spoke earnestly.
“Dad, although Vesper has fallen for someone else, her abilities at work are evident, I don’t want personal matters to interfere with the company’s interests. You know how difficult it is to find a good manager these days.”
“So you plan to keep her at the company?” Bodhi Lancaster asked seriously.
Joseph nodded, “Yes, anyway, we’re not working in the same department, and when she was transferred, none of the employees over there knew about our relationship.”
Bodhi Lancaster did not intervene in Joseph’s decision, turned around, took a breath, and leaned on the sofa armrest to stand up.
“Let’s go, Lorelei Howard, it’s getting late, Joseph needs to rest.”
Lorelei Howard looked at her son and then at her husband, “Bodhi, is that it?”
“Joseph is not a child, he has his reasons for doing things!” Bodhi Lancaster emphasized.
Lorelei Howard was not convinced, “Is the company really going to fall apart without her?”
“You’re a woman, if you don’t understand business, don’t interfere. You think doing business is like playing house, where you can just send away whoever you want!”
Bodhi Lancaster chided unhappily, striding toward the door, leaving Lorelei Howard behind.
Lorelei Howard muttered to his back, “This stubborn old man!”
After mumbling, she hurriedly followed him. As she walked out the door, she didn’t forget to remind Joseph Lancaster, “Joseph, I won’t interfere in this matter anymore, but before the end of the year, you have to bring back a daughter-in-law for me!”
