Chapter 1686: Chapter 1660: Wherever My Eyes Land, Forever Remains: A Family of Three
Violet’s heart felt warm, because Joseph didn’t scold her son, but she still reached out and picked up the little troublemaker who’d caused the scene. Now that Robert had the slip of paper to play with, he stopped resisting.
Violet looked at Joseph with shy, timid eyes and scolded softly, “You’re not allowed to spoil the child like this anymore, you’ll end up spoiling Robert rotten!”
Joseph reached out and wrapped his fingers around her wrist, lifting his handsome face with a smile. “Robert is my son. If I don’t spoil him, who would I spoil?”
“But you’ll still have to get married someday. Once you have other children, you won’t pamper Robert the way you do now!”
Just thinking about her younger uncle getting married and having kids in the future made Violet feel uncomfortable.
“Who said I’m going to get married?” Joseph asked back with a smile.
“But sooner or later you’ll have to. Even if you don’t want to, Dad and Mom won’t agree to that!” Violet turned her face away, full of grievance.
Seeing the woman acting so dramatic, Joseph sighed helplessly. “How many times do I have to tell you before you remember? I won’t get married, I won’t date any woman. I’ll stay by you and our son’s side for the rest of my life.”
Joseph’s completely sincere words sounded even sweeter than romantic lines. While Violet was moved, what popped into her mind instead was Daxton’s promise:
As long as Joseph hasn’t married, I’ll turn a blind eye to you two being together…
Thinking about sneaking around with her younger uncle for a lifetime, Violet felt both expectant and a bit embarrassed.
“Violet, what I promise, I’ll definitely make good on. You’re not allowed to doubt me anymore.” Joseph said gently.
Violet nodded and said shyly, “Before he left on his business trip, Daxton said… we should work hard, and try to have me pregnant by the time he gets back.”
Joseph raised his brows in surprise, then broke into a pleased smile. “Alright, when we go back tonight, we’ll work hard together.”
Joseph had his secretary bring in another document. As the secretary was leaving, he added an order: have the driver take him to the department store to buy food for his “nephew.” Violet stayed in the office, playing with her son, feeling a sweetness she’d never felt before.
At noon the three of them went to eat at a restaurant, a halal place. Joseph specially told them to steam a small bowl of egg custard for his son. Even though Robert hadn’t been weaned yet, children who’ve passed their one-month celebration should start filling up on a bit of solid food.
They ordered shaomai and lamb soup. Joseph paid extra, so there was a generous amount of meat in the soup. While they were eating, Joseph picked Robert up again. “I’ll feed Robert. You eat while it’s hot, once it’s cold it gets gamey.”
“What about you?”
“I’m fine. I’m always eating out with clients anyway.” Joseph scooped up a small spoonful of egg custard, blew on it gently, then fed it to Robert. A baby who’s past the one-month mark finds everything fascinating; across the table he reached for the shaomai placed between the two adults. When he couldn’t grab it, he turned back, anxiously patting Joseph’s arm. “Daddy, want! Want!”
“Hold on, Daddy will get it for you!” Joseph put down the spoon and picked up his chopsticks, picking up a shaomai and placing it in his own small plate.
Violet hurried to stop him. “Joseph, Robert’s still little. Beef is hard to digest!”
“It’s fine, our son isn’t that delicate. I’ll just feed him a bit of the wrapper.”
Joseph spoke with a smile, but before he could peel open the shaomai, the little guy on his lap was already impatiently reaching out to grab it. He grabbed it, then immediately threw it away.
He held up his little hand in front of his own face, scrunching his tiny nose, pursing his lips and blowing “hoo hoo” nonstop, muttering, “Hot, hot!”
The little guy looked so cute that Violet was both annoyed and amused. She put on a stern face and said, “Serves you right. Let’s see if you dare grab it next time!”
As soon as Violet finished speaking, Robert turned his head, grabbed Joseph’s arm and tugged it toward Violet’s side. “Daddy, hit! Hit! Mommy bad! Scolded Pengpeng…”
The little guy clutched his daddy’s hand and swung it with all his might, clearly not planning to let up unless Mommy got a beating.
Joseph, helpless, could only pretend to slap Violet’s hand. For some reason, Violet actually felt a little jealous.
In her younger uncle’s heart, his son mattered more than she did!
“Ha ha…” The little guy clapped his hands, laughing happily at Violet.
Violet felt a surge of irritation, slammed her chopsticks down with a snap, and glared at her son, fuming.
Joseph shook his head helplessly at the childish look on his woman’s face.
Even though he’d only just passed his one-month celebration, Robert already knew how to read grown-ups’ faces. Seeing that Mommy was upset, he hurriedly pursed his lips and came over to please her. “Hoo hoo, Pengpeng blow for you…”
Even with her heart full of jealousy, Violet couldn’t do anything against her son’s fawning expression, and once again resignedly picked up her chopsticks.
“You little rascal!” Joseph’s face was full of doting warmth as he gathered the little guy back into his arms, picked out a bit of meat filling and brought it to the boy’s lips. “Here, Daddy will feed you some meat.”
Robert opened his mouth to take the meat, scrunched his nose in an exaggerated way and smacked his lips with relish. After swallowing, he opened his mouth again to Joseph. “Daddy, so yummy.”
Joseph was focused entirely on feeding his son and hadn’t eaten a single bite himself. Violet couldn’t stand watching any longer; she picked up a shaomai, put it in her own small plate, dipped it in white vinegar, then lifted the plate and brought it to Joseph’s lips.
“You need to eat too. Don’t just focus on feeding the child. Once it’s cold, it doesn’t taste good anymore.”
Looking into Violet’s eyes, Joseph opened his mouth and took the entire shaomai in at once. Chewing as he spoke, he said, “Tastes great.”
“Ah, ah, Pengpeng wants…” The food in the little guy’s mouth had already gone down into his belly, and he anxiously opened his mouth wide toward Joseph.
“Don’t rush, Robert, Daddy will feed you.”
The meal was full of warmth. Joseph was busy feeding his son, while Violet was busy feeding him and herself. Once the little guy had almost had enough, he reached his arms out to Violet.
“Mommy, hug hug, milk~”
Violet took her son into her arms. Every day after lunch, the child had to drink a bit of milk, and then he would fall asleep in her embrace.
The three of them had booked a private room, with no other guests inside, but still—
Violet looked at Joseph bashfully. He just picked up his chopsticks and started eating on his own. “Our son’s hungry, why are you looking at me? I don’t have milk.”
After that, before Violet could say anything, he went on, “What’s there to be shy about? We’re practically an old married couple already.”
“Mommy, milk~” Robert anxiously clawed at Violet’s collar, his two chubby little legs kicking about impatiently.
Biting her lip in embarrassment, Violet lifted her top.
Across from her, Joseph raised his eyes to look over, his gaze landing on the full, round swell heavy with milk. His smile turned tender.
By the time they left the restaurant, Robert was already asleep. Worried that his son might catch cold, Joseph wrapped his own wool coat around the little guy.
Violet held the sleeping child in her arms, walking beside him. “Joseph, if it doesn’t delay you, could you take Robert and me back home?”
Joseph turned his gaze to her. “What are you going back for? It’s just the two of you at home. Isn’t it better to stay at the office and keep me company?”
Violet lowered her head. “Won’t we be getting in the way of your work?”
Joseph might have been slim, but his arms were strong. He held the sleeping little guy with one arm and pulled Violet into his side with the other, smiling as he said, “Getting in the way of what? With you and our son right under my nose, I’ve got even more motivation to work.”
