Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1576 - 1567: Where My Eyes Gaze, There Is Forever—Don’t Be Afraid, I’m Here
"Don’t be afraid, I’m here."
With a weight on her back, even through the wool coat, Violet Zimmerman could feel the warm temperature. In her ear was the man’s gentle and soft voice, like a trickling stream silently flowing in, making her heart feel warm.
She was no longer afraid, as the fearful emotions had been replaced by tension. Beneath her palm, Violet opened her eyes and peeked through her fingers.
In her sight, the man leaned in the chair, his handsome face slightly raised, focused on the front. The side profile was well-defined, and for some reason, the little bit of tension in Violet’s heart instantly disappeared.
Slowly putting her hand down, Violet realized that the young couple next to her was also embraced by the boyfriend.
In that not-so-developed era, with limited exposure, even a bit of thrilling music would make people nervous, especially with the surround sound on the walls of the theater.
Sighing quietly, Violet leaned back into the chair again, and Joseph Lancaster withdrew his hand as well, bending down to pick up her glove from the ground and handed it back to her.
The couple beside them began to crack sunflower seeds again. Perhaps because she was pregnant, Violet found herself craving whatever others were eating.
Swallowing secretly, her hand holding the cotton gloves was gently nudged, "Here."
It was Joseph Lancaster’s voice, still focused on the movie.
Violet lowered her gaze, and in the dim light, Joseph Lancaster’s hand held something. Instinctively, Violet tucked the gloves behind and opened her hands.
It was a handful of peanuts, seemingly carrying Joseph Lancaster’s warmth. Picking up one and cracking it open, a few peanuts entered her mouth, surprisingly sweet.
Violet ate peanuts while watching the movie, her lips involuntarily curled up.
Just as she finished the handful of peanuts, Joseph reached over again, this time with an orange, sweet and sour, which sweetened Violet’s heart.
Violet clearly saw her uncle coming in empty-handed, but his body seemed like a treasure trove, with peanuts, oranges, and hawthorns, and Violet ate throughout the movie.
During some thrilling and terrifying scenes, Joseph pulled her into his arms and proactively covered her eyes. These actions, clearly inappropriate between uncle and niece-in-law, surprisingly didn’t feel off when Joseph protected her.
When Violet left with Joseph, she let out a burp, having eaten quite a lot during the movie, feeling full.
"Joseph, are you going home or back to school?" Violet followed behind Joseph, protected by his long arm as if worried about bumping into others.
Joseph slowly moved towards the exit along with the audience in front, and instead of answering, asked in return, "Are you going straight back?"
"I..."
With Joseph’s question, Violet suddenly hesitated. She initially planned to head back after the movie, but now... she suddenly didn’t want to go back so early.
Joseph turned his head back, glanced at the conflicted woman, and a curve appeared at the corner of his lips. The hand protecting Violet suddenly turned into a grip on her wrist.
"Let’s go to the store to buy some food first, then we’ll go back together."
Looking at the back of her uncle’s head, Violet consciously said "Okay."
Joseph arrived late, intentionally ten minutes late, with his bike locked at the farthest position, easily visible once they stepped out of the theater.
It was only after stepping out of the theater that Violet noticed Joseph was wearing a military coat today.
