Chapter 1573 - 1564: As Far As the Eye Can See, Eternal as Heaven and Earth: A Calm Mind

Joseph Lancaster also joined Violet Zimmerman for a meal; with the older brother at work, only the two of them sat at the dining table.

In fact, Violet greatly admired her brother-in-law Joseph Lancaster; despite what had transpired between them, his face showed no guilt. He remained as composed as before, helping her with the soup and even meticulously removing the bones from the fish.

"You can eat it now."

Joseph Lancaster raised his bowl, placing a piece of deboned fish into Violet’s bowl. Staring at the piece of fish with bits of Joseph’s rice clinging to it, Violet hesitated for quite a while without moving.

Joseph continued shoveling rice into his mouth, watching the woman staring at the fish, and said with a laugh as he set down his bowl, "Think I’m dirty? Don’t worry, I don’t have any contagious diseases."

After Joseph’s words, Violet immediately felt her ears burning. It wasn’t that she thought he was dirty, but she found the sight of the rice on the fish a bit suggestive.

Some images she shouldn’t be thinking of unconsciously surfaced; she had kissed her brother-in-law...

"Eat more fish. The book says eating fish during pregnancy makes the baby smarter."

Joseph spoke like an expert, having read it in a pregnancy guidebook that morning.

Though Joseph showed care and concern for Violet, he never overstepped any boundaries. In the early stages of pregnancy, she had a good appetite, eating more than half a fish and drinking a lot of the soup—grass carp and tofu soup, savory and not greasy.

As they neared the end of the meal, Joseph served Violet with another small bowl of fish soup. His slender fingers held the ladle, scooping while saying, "If you crave anything, just tell me. The Lancaster Family isn’t short on money; don’t deprive yourself."

"Cough, cough..."

Violet choked on her saliva; weren’t such words supposed to be said by a husband to his wife?

Joseph paused in his soup-serving, holding a small bowl, and looked at Violet with a face of helplessness.

"Sister-in-law, you’re going to be a mother soon; how can you still be so worrisome?"

Violet...

Felt reluctant to look him in the eye, she turned her face aside, covering her lips, and after stopping her cough said, "Joseph, you better come over less often from now on."

Joseph...

Placed the soup bowl down with a thud, his eyes filled with displeasure.

"Sister-in-law, you’re my sister-in-law, and I’m your brother-in-law. You’re pregnant with my nephew, and with my big brother so busy, shouldn’t I, as an uncle, show concern for his sister-in-law?"

Violet slowly turned her head, meeting Joseph’s earnest and untainted gaze.

Her heart had a moment of doubt. Could it be... she was overthinking? Was his care purely because she was carrying the Lancaster Family’s heir?

Joseph took a deep breath, and then exhaled, pushing the bowl of fish soup in front of Violet, lowering his gaze to the table, his expression solemn.

"Sister-in-law, we are family. We can’t avoid seeing each other for the rest of our lives. Some things... just maintain a normal mindset, don’t overthink it."

Because the more he thought about it, the more his chest felt constricted, and he didn’t know why.

Seeing Violet still staring at him, Joseph slowly stood up, "Drink it while it’s hot, otherwise the fish soup will be fishy."

After instructing her, Joseph turned around. After a few steps, he returned to the table, reached into his student uniform pocket, and took out a movie ticket, placing it on the table in front of Violet’s bewildered gaze.

"Go see a movie when you have time, don’t stay cooped up at home alone; it’s not good for you or the child."

After Joseph left, Violet stared at the movie ticket for a long time without moving.
