Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1570 - 1561: Wherever My Eyes Fall, It Will Last Forever—I’ll Treat You Well
Realizing his gaffe, Joseph Lancaster hurriedly picked up the towel beside him to wipe his face, stammering, "Not yet."
When he said this, Joseph Lancaster didn’t even dare to lift his head, much less look at his older brother Daxton Lancaster.
Because when his brother asked if he had classmates he got along with, the person who came to his mind was his sister-in-law!
Seeing Joseph Lancaster’s strange reaction, Daxton Lancaster subtly curled his lips, reached for his cigarette pack, intending to smoke, but quickly put it back down.
"Joseph, you’re not young anymore; it’s time to settle down and start a career. If you have a girl you like, just tell me. I’ll take care of it for you, don’t worry about social status."
Joseph Lancaster...
Slowly turned his head, looking at Daxton Lancaster, who was making promises, and almost blurted out a question.
Joseph Lancaster wanted to ask if Daxton was so considerate because he helped him out of a big "trouble," but remembering his sister-in-law’s desperate plea at the time, he swallowed back the inappropriate words.
Joseph Lancaster lowered his head and continued eating Alcohol Fermented Meatballs. For some reason, the food he usually loved now seemed tasteless.
"Brother, I will."
"Okay," came a weight on his shoulder—Daxton Lancaster had placed his hand on it and patted it, saying, "Remember, Joseph, we’re siblings; don’t be formal with me if there’s anything."
"Thank you, brother." At this moment, Joseph Lancaster felt even more that the meatballs in his spoon were hard to swallow.
"Alright, take your time eating. Your sister-in-law isn’t feeling well, so I’ll go upstairs to accompany her."
Daxton Lancaster stood up, picked up the fruit, and headed towards the stairs.
In the living room, Joseph Lancaster sat alone on the couch, holding a spoon with a meatball still on it, staring at a spot, his lips pressed tightly together.
Seeing Daxton Lancaster enter the room, Violet Zimmerman instinctively asked, "Has Joseph gone back?"
Daxton Lancaster turned to close the door, half smiling, asking, "Why? Do you wish he’d stayed?"
"What nonsense are you talking about?"
Violet Zimmerman frowned in displeasure; once back in the room, she sat on the couch, caressing her belly. Her pregnancy felt a bit unbelievable.
"What, are you so afraid of seeing Joseph?" Daxton Lancaster approached with the fruit.
Violet Zimmerman didn’t have this feeling before. Now, as soon as she saw food, she had a craving. Her eyes fell on the fruit Daxton Lancaster was carrying, "That’s nonsense; who wouldn’t be anxious? Wouldn’t you feel uneasy if it were you?"
Violet Zimmerman’s attention was solely on the fruit in the nylon bag; she didn’t notice Daxton Lancaster’s reaction to her words.
The man’s eyes narrowed, a dark glint passing through them—fleeting but filled with danger and ambiguous emotion.
Violet Zimmerman licked her lips, looking at the juicy pear, saying, "Daxton, I want to eat a pear."
"Here, it’s all yours, take your time eating, just don’t overeat."
Daxton Lancaster placed the nylon bag in front of Violet Zimmerman, who reached in, pulled out a large pear, wiped it clean with her hand, and took a bite.
"So juicy!"
It seemed like the juiciest pear she’d ever eaten, sweet, crisp, and full of juice.
Daxton Lancaster’s eyes darkened again; he sat beside Violet Zimmerman, wrapped his arm around her waist, saying, "If you like anything, just tell me; I’ll bring it back after work."
Violet Zimmerman took another bite of the big pear, looked up at Daxton Lancaster, murmuring, "Daxton, I still want to eat candied hawthorn..."
Daxton Lancaster quietly exhaled, "Alright, I’ll go get it for you."
When Daxton Lancaster went downstairs, Joseph Lancaster had already left, and the servants were in the kitchen washing dishes.
Holding onto the stair railing, Daxton Lancaster instructed, "Mrs. Zhang, please bring a stick of candied hawthorn for Madam."
A pregnant woman’s appetite is extraordinary; Violet Zimmerman had just finished a big pear and soon ate an entire stick of candied hawthorn. The sweet and sour taste spread in her mouth, icy cold and delicious.
Violet Zimmerman offered the candied hawthorn to Daxton Lancaster, "Daxton, you should eat one too. It’s definitely fresh; the hawthorns haven’t fully frozen yet."
Men rarely enjoy sweet and sour flavors, but seeing the candied hawthorn presented to him, Daxton Lancaster obligingly bit into one.
Violet Zimmerman, chewing a hawthorn, asked indistinctly, "Isn’t it delicious?"
A whole hawthorn filled her mouth, her cheek puffed up adorably; Daxton Lancaster’s eyes darkened, suddenly leaning over to kiss her.
"Mm..."
Violet Zimmerman was forced to tilt her face up; in an instant, Daxton Lancaster had fed her half of the hawthorn he’d bitten. Originally cold, it felt warm now after passing through Daxton Lancaster’s mouth.
After sucking on Violet Zimmerman’s lips, Daxton Lancaster finally pulled back, his eyes deep and unclear, his voice hoarse.
"Is it good?"
Violet Zimmerman...
Looked at him dumbfounded, having not felt her husband’s gentleness for a long time, she nodded subconsciously; the half hawthorn still in her mouth, she said, "Delicious."
As soon as Violet Zimmerman finished speaking, Daxton Lancaster’s handsome face pressed down again, twisting his body, one hand supporting the couch back, the other holding Violet Zimmerman’s head.
Using both lips and tongue, he kissed her deeply, finally letting go.
Looking at Violet Zimmerman, his eyes serious.
"Violet, I will definitely treat you well!"
Violet Zimmerman nodded subconsciously, "I know."
Joseph Lancaster was sleepless.
He thought it was because he switched to a new bed.
The school dormitory had a hardboard bed, whereas at home, the bed was covered with a spring mattress, bouncy and soft, somewhat like... his sister-in-law’s body.
Unhealthy images automatically popped into his mind; several times, it was on this bed that he pressed her underneath him...
"Damn it!" Joseph Lancaster cursed under his breath, punching the bed.
In the darkness, his eyes were wide open, with no trace of sleepiness.
"Joseph Lancaster, get a grip! She’s your sister-in-law, your brother’s woman, not someone for you to fantasize about!" A voice righteously reminded him in his ear.
Joseph Lancaster knew he shouldn’t be thinking crazily, but that intimate and cozy image kept floating before his eyes—the image of his brother and sister-in-law cuddled on the sofa, heads close together, his sister-in-law nestled against his brother’s shoulder, his brother’s head resting on hers, her hand covering his brother’s, together caressing the belly...
"Ah... I’m going to go crazy!" Joseph Lancaster shouted in despair, punching the bed again, burying his handsome face into the pillow, his clenched fists pounding down repeatedly.
During breakfast the next morning, a plate of dumplings appeared in front of Violet Zimmerman. She looked around; no one else had them—only she had this special treatment.
Eva Hayes looked at that steaming plate of dumplings, about to make a snide remark, but the old master spoke first.
"Violet, don’t just look at them. Only one plate is made, pure meat filling; yesterday, Joseph specially bought the pork back."
"Joseph really knows how to care for people!" The old master made things clear, yet Eva Hayes couldn’t suppress her sarcastic tone.
Joseph Lancaster rarely interrupted when elders spoke, but this morning, he was unusually irritable.
After Eva Hayes spoke, Joseph slammed down his chopsticks and stood up, glaring at Eva Hayes, speaking harshly, "She’s my sister-in-law; of course, I have to care for her. If you’re envious, let your son buy pork for his cousin-in-law!"
