"Oh yeah? Then later you can help her get a ticket for some romance flick." Daxton Lancaster picked up a newspaper without changing his expression and pretended to read.

Joseph Lancaster agreed with a smile. "Sure, big brother, then I’ll head back first."

"Mm." Daxton continued in that淡淡 manner, his gaze resting on the newspaper, but as soon as Joseph walked out he immediately put the paper down, got up, and went upstairs.

Violet Zimmerman was still sitting in front of the mirror combing her hair. In the past, whenever she was bored she’d go to her mother-in-law’s room to chat and pass the time. Now she spent the whole day shut in the bedroom alone, facing the mirror.

"Joseph really does care about you, doesn’t he!" Daxton’s cold, mocking voice sounded at the door. He walked into the room, turned around to close the door, then came toward Violet step by step.

Violet’s hand paused mid-comb. She looked over through the mirror. In the glass, the man’s brows were slightly furrowed, his face gloomy, a cold curve tugging at the corner of his lips.

Violet withdrew her gaze and went on combing her hair, speaking indifferently, "He’s my brother-in-law. Isn’t it perfectly normal for a younger brother-in-law to care about his eldest sister-in-law?"

"Normal?"

Daxton’s lips pulled as he repeated, already standing behind Violet. His hands rested on the back of the chair as he leaned in slightly, looking at her through the mirror, and said with a half-smile, half-smirk.

"So ’normal’ that he has to rush over and ask if you want to see every new film that’s released in the cinema? Violet, your little tricks are no joke."

In just half a month, she’d managed to leave his own younger brother pining for her!

Violet’s combing stopped again. She turned her head to look at the man crowding her shoulder.

"What are you talking about? How did I not get a word of that?"

"Didn’t get it?"

The corner of Daxton’s mouth hooked up. His gaze in the mirror shifted to Violet’s face as he asked slowly, "So Joseph wasn’t just talking to you about the movie just now?"

Violet...

Her first instinct was to shake her head.

"No."

"Then what was it about!" Daxton’s voice suddenly rose, his body straightening along with it. The cold curve at his lips vanished, his whole face iced over.

Violet...

She stared, baffled, at the man who’d suddenly lost his temper and said, "Just now Joseph told me that because I’ve been going over to his place too often these days, it’s stirred up suspicion among his servants. When he came home from school he happened to hear two of them gossiping."

Daxton’s cold phoenix eyes tightened. "That happened?"

"Mm, Joseph just told me to stop going over from now on."

Daxton’s gaze flashed straight onto Violet’s face. He stared at her for several seconds, then asked expressionlessly, "He’s telling you not to go over anymore—does that mean he’s sure you’re already pregnant by me?"

Violet was choked speechless by his question. She turned back, lowering her eyes, and said, "I don’t know."

Daxton’s eyes shifted forward, his phoenix eyes tightening again. "In a bit you call him, ask him to come here. When he does, I’ll go next door."

Violet...

She suddenly turned to Daxton, her brows knitting, panic flashing across her face.

"Are you insane!" He’d go into the room next door, then sit there listening to her and his own younger brother doing that right under his nose...

Just the thought of it was twisted!

Daxton withdrew his gaze and looked at Violet, asking expressionlessly, "Do you have a better idea?"

If they didn’t want the servants to get suspicious, this was the only way. All the servants’ rooms were downstairs; aside from coming up to the second floor to clean in the mornings, they stayed shut in their own rooms the rest of the time.

When he was home, if his younger brother Joseph came over, the servants wouldn’t think much of it. So no matter how long Joseph stayed in their bedroom, it wouldn’t arouse suspicion among the servants.

Because the servants would assume the three of them were in the room together.
