Moonfire Bride: The One they all betrayed...till she awakened
Chapter 207: The Phantom Behind them
Katherine had left.
Della spent the whole night thinking.
It’d be easier to just go down the mountain and listen to the newest gossip in the packs, but she didn’t want to know.
Not now...at least.
Morning came fast. She was stunned when she noticed the first hint of sunlight appearing from the horizon. She’d assumed it’d just been two or three hours...not eight!
"When you were first brought to IronRidge...we used to watch the sunrise and sunset together," Della whispered and glanced back at the grave.
She adjusted the flowers she’d dropped on it the night before, and then she sighed. Her chest was tight. Tears had welled in her eyes again, and as they rolled down her face... only the living part of her heart ached.
Nothing more.
Just then, Della heard the scrape of claw against stone, and her body instantly went into alert mode.
She stood up and looked around, then she quieted listened. The sound came again, this time louder than before, along with laughter from below.
She soon realised that a few wolves were climbing up the mountain, toward this side. Her eyes shifted to the grave again, and then back to the direction they were coming from.
Based on how fast they were moving, they should be here in less than ten minutes. And the moment they climbed up here and see her, they would know she’s a rotblood.
She couldn’t let that happen.
Not yet.
And so, she snuck behind the trees away from the tombstone and concealed her presence completely. From there, she watched the large clearing and waited for them to reach the top.
Minutes later, the claws of two wolves came into view as they dug them into the earth and pulled themselves up completely.
It was a young man and a woman, and they were both laughing as they rolled themselves to a stop. The guy stood up first and helped the lady up, who was dusting herself and chewing nonstop.
The sound of the chewing was rather annoying.
"Ugh! It’s been so long since we came here. My legs are sore," She groaned, and Della could instantly tell that she was a spoilt little brat. What wolf gets sore after climbing a mountain unless they haven’t shifted or done any challenging work in a long time?
"Shall I rub it for you?" The boy cooed.
"Yes," She nodded excitedly.
"Well, I’m not gonna," He said and pulled her closer.
"Hey!" She cried, dodging his lips, "You were the one who forced me to come up here again, and I’m not kissing you till you—"
He kissed her before she could finish, and Della thought to look away for a moment, but she watched instead. She watched as he melted into her, and soon enough, they were fucking themselves like animals.
The sight reminded her of what she and Malachi had done two days ago, and she hated the mate bond even more.
Once they were done forcing their organs through one another, the girl collapsed on him, and they stayed like that for a while.
Then, she casually turned her head and stared.
"Was that here the last time we came up?" She asked, looking at Lian’s grave.
Della’s claws instinctively extended forward. If they knew what was good for them, they would start making out again and forget about the grave.
The boy also looked and shook his head, "Nope. I think I would remember if there was a grave up here,"
"I wonder what kind of psycho came up here and buried someone," The girl said, and sat up, straddling him now.
"Wanna check it out?" He grinned.
Della watched as they both helped themselves up and walked toward the grave. Once they were close enough, they saw the flower sitting by the side of the tombstone and the girl bent over, "Looks like someone was here recently,"
She then picked up the flower and stared at the petals. A gleam flashed in her eyes, and just like that, she began plucking the petals from the flower and throwing them into the wind.
"Let’s see...," The boy bent over next to her and stared at the name written on the Tombstone, "Lian... Who the fuck is that?"
"No idea," She shrugged and plucked another flower, "Doesn’t seem important though,"
The boy suddenly grinned, "Should we bash it?"
She seemed to have the exact brain cell as him, "Should we?!"
Della told herself that they weren’t going to do it. That these... people had more sense and respect for the dead than this. That they were joking.
She was barely holding herself back, watching the girl pluck each petal like they were something that had been kept there for her to destroy. And Della believed she had so much self-control now.
She could do this.
That was until the first blow hit.
It blew off the tombstone completely from the ground, and it shattered into the pieces along the way and fell to the ground as smaller pieces of rock.
She didn’t know when she did it.
Her legs simply moved on their own.
One moment she was grinding her teeth behind the trees, and the next she was standing right behind them like a phantom that had appeared out of nowhere.
"Fuck! What the hell?!" The boy shrieked, scared out of his mind as he quickly backed away from her.
"What the— where did that come from?" The girl followed suit, panting from shock, "Is that...is that a ghost?" She added.
All they could see was a person in a dark cloak that covered every inch of their skin, except their lips. The cap didn’t cover that, and the skin was extremely pale.
Lips were dried and slightly cracked. It looked like it was...glued shut and the way the phantom stood was creepily still.
"Wait," The boy narrowed his eyes, then he suddenly yelled again as realisation dawned on him, "The rumours were true. There is a rotblood still alive!"
"What the fuck do you want?" Now there was anger in their tone. Anger and disgust.
Della simply cracked her neck.
