Monsters Die When Killed
Chapter 679: Brief Offense and Defense (2)
“Let’s ignore that guy for now. We’re still a long way from our objective. He’s sure to attack us on the way there, and when he does, we’ll be rested and ready. All we need to do is mount a defensive counter-attack.”
Su Zhou’s decision was decisive and realistic. After all, the Moon was simply too vast. The Deep Space Caller was also Commander Tier and not weak. If he resorted to engaging them in constant chases or guerrilla-style raids, Su Zhou himself might be fine, but his two teammates would most likely be brutally killed.
Bai Jingtiao and Gu Yaoluo nodded in agreement. The team then exited the Moon Landing Shuttle. Gu Yaoluo took a large number of parts from the shuttle and used his ‘Celestial Artifice’ ability to assemble a tracked Moon Surface Vehicle right there on the spot.
Every Cultivator from the Celestial Artifice lineage was a living, breathing, high-precision factory. Legend had it that when Zhengguo began its industrialization, the Artisan Saint of that era led numerous top-tier workers to personally build Zhengguo’s first industrial mother machine.
Of course, Gu Yaoluo didn’t possess that level of precision—which would be terrifying even by modern standards—but assembling a vehicle that was already modular by design was a piece of cake for him.
Riding the Moon Surface Vehicle, the trio began to rapidly approach their target: the source of the unidentified signal.
Partway through their high-speed transit, Su Zhou, who was sitting in the passenger seat, narrowed his eyes and gazed into the distance.
From his point of view, he could see a massive Spiritual Light Beam, like a beacon, shooting straight into the depths of the cosmos. He couldn’t confirm it while in Earth orbit, but now, Su Zhou was one hundred percent certain that the electromagnetic signal disrupting all of Earth’s electronic channels was merely a byproduct of this Spiritual Power Beacon’s creation.
As for the beacon itself, it was undoubtedly created by one of the alien Spaceships on the Moon’s Far Side. It was highly probable that the Deep Space Caller had awakened one of the Spaceships, causing it to broadcast this message.
‘What kind of message is this Beacon transmitting? A warning? A call for help? A last testament, or a declaration of vengeance?’
Su Zhou knew full well that the Immortal Gods must have had their reasons for shooting down these alien Spaceships back then. Maybe this was Earth Civilization’s cosmic territory, and they had ignored repeated warnings? Either way, he wasn’t about to lose sleep over something that happened hundreds of thousands of years ago, nor did he think the Immortal Gods or the Aliens were innocent. What was obvious, however, was that if an alien Spaceship sent out a call for help, then the present-day Earth would have to face the potential risk of an Alien invasion.
Since the Beacon was being transmitted using Spiritual Power, it meant that, in a sense, the Aliens also possessed Spiritual Power technology. This was to be expected; after all, Spiritual Power was an inherent Attribute of this Cosmos. At the same time, it also meant that powerful Transcendents could potentially crack and decrypt the message.
Even across this vast distance, Su Zhou was still able to decipher a few scattered and incomplete messages from the Spiritual Power spilling from the distant Beacon. This meant that if he could reach the transmission source, he might be able to fully decrypt the Beacon’s contents.
‘The Deep Space Caller went all the way to the Moon just to activate an alien Spaceship’s Spiritual Power Beacon for some unknown reason… Don’t tell me this guy wants to be a collaborator for the Aliens?’
Su Zhou knew that he didn’t really understand his enemy. Why had the Deep Space Caller become the Leader of a Mysterious Organization that threatened humanity? What were his reasons and motives for opposing the American Federation and destroying his own hometown? And why did he rampage across the world, killing people everywhere, only to then raid the research camp in Antarctica, kill numerous scientists, and travel to the Moon to activate a Spaceship?
What were the Deep Space Caller’s true abilities? Apart from summoning Alien Monsters, what other Bottom Cards did he have? Su Zhou wasn’t very clear on any of it.
But that was the nature of battle. No one would easily reveal their Bottom Cards or other information. Before every fight, both sides likely felt they understood their opponent well, but in reality, once the fighting truly began, everything was an unknown.
The Moon Surface Vehicle sped across the Moon Surface, while an unknown enemy lurked within the sunlit expanse of the Moon’s Far Side.
Meanwhile, on Earth, the vice president of the American Federation’s NW Foundation was facing serious pressure from the United International delegation in an online conference.
“Our team on the Moon’s Far Side has already been ambushed by the Deep Space Caller.”
The representative from Zhengguo, the digital self of the Artifice Sage, was the leader of the delegation. His tone was placid. “According to astronaut Meng Jin’s report, we can confirm that the Deep Space Caller demonstrated a high-energy physical impact attack, something not mentioned in the American Federation’s data. We suspect that you are still concealing information related to the Deep Space Caller.”
“We have already shared all confirmed information without reservation.”
The vice president of the NW Foundation was a middle-aged woman with long, flaxen hair. She had no name; within the foundation, she went by the codename ‘West Tower.’ “The rest of the information is all just speculation. Releasing it rashly would likely just mislead everyone.”
Despite her words, West Tower knew that the time had come when she had to speak. In the end, she simply added a reminder, “We can provide the relevant information, but you must guarantee a complete blackout on any news concerning the ‘Deep Space Caller.’ No information about him can be allowed to spread.”
“That is what we have always done.”
The Artifice Sage stated calmly, “Besides, other than a few vague descriptions, we knew next to nothing about him to begin with.”
