Monsters Die When Killed
Chapter 670: Moon-Landing Teammate
The Moon?
Hearing this, Su Zhou was baffled. He frowned and muttered to himself, ‘Why is it always the Moon? Are you all Moon People, planning a group trip or something?’
Recently, or at least within the year, he himself was planning to go to the Moon. Zhou Buyi from the Divine Wood World was also going to the Moon. How had the Deep Space Caller ended up on the Moon too?
But he quickly had another thought. ‘As the saying goes, there’s an attraction between Transcendents. This must be synchronicity!’
Earth was now completely covered by the networks of major powers. Even the Deep Space Caller had been tracked by the American Federation before this. If he didn’t go to the Moon, was he just going to wait to be surrounded and bombed by a massive army and nuclear weapons?
Besides, the Deep Space Caller had always been clearly labeled as ‘related to extraterrestrial life.’ And right now, the closest alien artifacts humanity could reach—aside from those on God-knows-what-star at least three hundred light-years away—were the various alien ships shot down on the Moon by the Immortal Gods of old.
‘I see. No wonder the Deep Space Caller went to the Moon—’
At this, Su Zhou began to understand. ‘Maybe the extraterrestrial beings he summons aren’t actually from other stars, but are entities from the various alien ruins within our Solar System… It’s just a guess, but it’s probably not far off.’
The thought lasted only an instant. In reality, Su Zhou maintained his serious tone, his brow furrowed. “Proof?”
Aistena didn’t waste words and presented the evidence directly—a series of satellite images and a low-resolution video that nonetheless clearly proved there were signs of biological activity.
In the video, a Western man encased in silver, exoskeleton-like armor could be seen strolling slowly at the edge of Mare Imbrium on the Moon. His movements seemed aimless, but Su Zhou could tell that he was likely adapting to the lunar environment, testing how to use his powers in its conditions.
After all, compared to Earth’s gravity and atmosphere, an ordinary Transcendent trying to use their full power on the Moon would likely have trouble controlling it. This could prevent them from reaching their intended destination immediately, reducing their efficiency.
Obviously, the Deep Space Caller didn’t have the same resources as Su Zhou and Zhengguo to simulate the lunar environment for adaptation.
“…This brings us to the problem.”
After presenting the intelligence from the American Federation, Aistena first glanced at Su Zhou. Seeing no sign of displeasure, he turned to the European Union’s representative, Olson, and said bluntly, “The Deep Space Caller’s actions have always been meaningless and random. To this day, we still don’t know why he attacks civilians and ordinary people, causing mass casualties. But this time, his attack on the Antarctic research base was extremely targeted. It’s obvious he went there to seize something.”
“We mourn the research personnel who were sacrificed, but does the European Union possess some important information? For example, had Dr. Mensele and Lady Elizabeth’s research produced any results that might have attracted him?”
“What kind of way is that to talk?”
The question was harsh, like interrogating a victim about what they did to provoke their attacker. The American Federation was essentially absolving itself of its failure to report what it knew. Su Zhou’s brows shot up. He slammed the table and roared, criticizing the malicious intent behind Aistena’s words. Then he turned to Olson, asking warmly if there was any trouble and telling him to feel free to discuss it with him. He would help if he could and would definitely fight the Deep Space Caller to the very end.
The Artifice Sage had originally intended to direct Su Zhou on the spot, telling him to remain silent and secretly pressure Olson alongside Aistena to see if they could get more information. But he hadn’t expected the seemingly simple Su Zhou to have mastered these basic multi-party negotiation tactics all on his own.
‘Seems being a rogue is an innate talent,’ he thought.
“…A few days before he was killed, Dr. Mensele published a related report. It stated that while he hadn’t found the 200-million-year-old ancient ice layer with the ice-sheet drill, he had accidentally discovered that around three to four hundred thousand years ago, the Antarctic ice sheet on Earth had been subjected to extremely intense radiation. He also found a metallic substance of ‘unknown origin’ within it.”
Olson was only a projection, but that didn’t mean he was unaware of the situation. As he himself had said earlier, withholding intelligence now would only offend everyone else. Besides, with Dr. Mensele dead, such confidential information was now useless.
[The period when most of the alien ships on the Moon were shot down by the Immortal Gods was between four hundred thousand and one hundred thousand years ago.]
The Artifice Sage also briefly explained the significance of this time period to Su Zhou, who immediately understood. ‘I see. So, while there might not be a complete alien ship in the Antarctic, there should be some wreckage.’
‘The Deep Space Caller’s target is definitely those ships on the far side of the Moon. Before that, he went to the Antarctic, possibly for ancient alien life factors beneath the Prehistoric Ice Sheet, or more likely, to find some potential ship components… Whatever his purpose is, we have to eliminate him.’
