Chapter 300: Chapter 299: What’s Going On?

"Xinghai is filming a TV drama?"

Gu Qingyin was very surprised when she heard the news. As far as she knew, Huo Xinghai was exceptionally talented in music, but his acting... was mediocre at best. ’Besides, Huo Xinghai isn’t even that interested in acting. Why did he suddenly take a role?’

She looked at Huo Yunjing beside her. "I want to visit the set."

Huo Yunjing looked up from his book, a little surprised. "Visit Xinghai’s set?"

Gu Qingyin nodded.

"Alright." Huo Yunjing took out his phone. "I’ll book the tickets."

Huo Xinghai was filming in Liao City, which was freezing at this time of year. During the day, it was close to zero degrees, and after sunset, the temperature dropped to nearly ten degrees below zero.

As soon as they landed, Gu Qingyin and Huo Yunjing changed into thick clothes, putting on padded pants, winter boots, and down jackets. But the moment they stepped out of the warm airport, the cold wind made them shiver.

"Where’s the car?" Gu Qingyin asked, hunching her shoulders against the cold.

As a Ghost Cultivator, Huo Yunjing wasn’t as sensitive to heat and cold. He raised his body temperature slightly and took Gu Qingyin’s hand. "Follow me."

Gu Qingyin treated Huo Yunjing like a personal hand warmer, holding his large hand tightly and occasionally pressing it against her face, not even watching where she was going.

’This was a little too intimate for a public place.’

Huo Yunjing’s ears turned a little red, but he didn’t pull away. ’Are you kidding? How could I possibly reject my wife just because other people are watching? Absolutely not!’

They had rented a car themselves, and someone from the rental agency drove it directly to the airport to hand it over.

The two of them had come in secret. They had wheedled the filming location out of Huo Xingchen, who had seen his second brother while handling a commission here earlier.

"Let’s go to the hotel first. We’ll visit the set tomorrow," Huo Yunjing said, setting the GPS for the hotel.

Gu Qingyin hummed in agreement. She had originally planned to rush straight to the set after landing, but she hadn’t expected to underestimate the temperature here. Now, she didn’t want to go anywhere but back to a warm bed.

The hotel they booked wasn’t far from where Huo Xinghai was filming. It was a one-bedroom suite. Gu Qingyin stripped off all her heavy clothes and dove straight into bed.

But before long, she got out, feeling too hot.

The hotel’s heating was on full blast.

"Sigh." Gu Qingyin changed into her pajamas and sighed, curled up on the sofa. "I think I’m coming down with something."

"What’s wrong?" Huo Yunjing came over with a glass of water. "Here, have a few sips."

After drinking the water, Gu Qingyin looked up at him pitifully. "It feels like I’m breathing out hot air."

Huo Yunjing touched her forehead, his brow furrowing slightly. "You have a fever."

"Huh?" Gu Qingyin touched her own forehead but didn’t feel anything obvious. "I’m not that delicate, am I?"

Without a word, Huo Yunjing went to rummage through their suitcase and took out a first-aid kit. A moment later, he returned with a cooling patch and a cup of prepared cold medicine.

"Drink it."

Gu Qingyin took it with a long face, held her breath, and downed it in one go.

Huo Yunjing stuck the cooling patch on her forehead, then bent down, picked her up, and carried her back to bed. "Get some sleep. You’ll feel better soon."

Gu Qingyin blinked. "It’s a little hot."

Huo Yunjing was unmoved. "You won’t feel hot once you’re asleep."

Gu Qingyin said, "Oh." Then she obediently closed her eyes.

She didn’t feel sleepy, but she drifted off without realizing it. When she opened her eyes again, it was the middle of the night, and she was hungry.

Huo Yunjing was lying beside her. He opened his eyes the moment she moved, instinctively reaching out to touch her head and check her temperature.

"I want to eat," Gu Qingyin said, snuggling into his arms. "So hungry," she wheedled.

Huo Yunjing glanced at the time and bent down to kiss her. "Want some porridge?"

"Anything’s fine," Gu Qingyin said, not picky at all. "As long as it fills me up."

"Let’s get up." Huo Yunjing helped her sit up, still holding her. "I’ll go heat up the porridge. You go wash up."

Gu Qingyin washed up quickly. When she came out of the bathroom, Huo Yunjing was still heating the porridge.

When he had said he would heat it, Gu Qingyin had assumed he’d use a pot. She never expected... he was heating it directly with his hands!

He was holding the entire container of porridge in his palm, heating it with his Spiritual Power.

’What has this bowl of porridge ever done to deserve such a grand treatment!’

Gu Qingyin hurried over and took the porridge from him. "Alright, alright, it’s warm enough to eat."

Huo Yunjing didn’t stop her; he also felt it was about right.

"You can only have half a bowl. After you finish, go back to sleep."

Gu Qingyin hummed in assent and grabbed her phone to find a TV show to watch while she ate.

Huo Yunjing raised an eyebrow. "Don’t you usually complain that TV dramas are too long and refuse to watch them?"

Gu Qingyin made a dismissive sound. "These are Xinghai’s colleagues on the set. I should get a little familiar with them."

Hearing that, Huo Yunjing became a little interested too. "Which ones?"

"Wait!" Gu Qingyin’s eyes were glued to the screen. When the person appeared, she quickly pointed. "That one! The second male lead! And that woman!" Her finger moved. "She’s the female lead, and she’s also the female lead in Xinghai’s show."

Huo Yunjing glanced at the second male lead and thought he was just so-so. His looks were a far cry from his son’s, and as for his acting, it was unremarkable at best.

As for the female lead, her eyes were quite pretty—large, round, and full of life.

"Hurry up and eat," Huo Yunjing said, patting her. "You have to drink another dose of cold medicine when you’re done."

"’Kay." Gu Qingyin scooped a large spoonful of porridge into her mouth, her eyes fixed on the screen. She was clearly engrossed.

Huo Yunjing shook his head and got up to prepare her medicine.

It took her forty minutes to eat half a bowl of porridge, exactly the length of one TV episode. Gu Qingyin wanted to keep watching, but Huo Yunjing made her turn it off.

Gu Qingyin sighed, drank her medicine, rinsed her mouth, and got back into the warm bed. She sighed in contentment, "So comfy!"

At ten the next morning, Gu Qingyin climbed out of bed, feeling completely recovered.

"Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?" Huo Yunjing asked.

"Nope!" Gu Qingyin puffed out her chest and tilted her head up. "In tip-top shape!"

Huo Yunjing nodded. "Take one more dose of medicine later."

Gu Qingyin didn’t dare to argue, so she just pouted. "’Kay."

By the time they finished getting ready and left the hotel, it was already noon. The two of them drove straight to the film set.

Huo Xinghai’s crew was filming a costume drama on a studio lot. The place was usually a tourist attraction, but it would be closed off whenever a production was filming.

As expected, they were stopped at the entrance.

Gu Qingyin smiled amiably. "We’re here to visit Huo Xinghai. I’m his mother."

The staff member sized her up, and after a few seconds, his eyes lit up in recognition. "Sister Qing!"

"Yes, that’s me," Gu Qingyin said with a smile. "I want to surprise Xinghai. Could you please let us in quietly?"

The staff member hesitated for a moment, then also smiled. "Please wait here for a moment while I go ask the director."

With that, he turned and went inside. He came back out a moment later with an even friendlier smile. "Sister Qing..." He glanced at Huo Yunjing. "...and this gentleman, you may go in. They’re still filming right now, so please don’t talk or take any pictures once you’re inside."

Gu Qingyin nodded her thanks and entered the studio lot with Huo Yunjing.

After walking for a bit, they saw a group of people gathered in the distance. Huo Xinghai, mixed in with the crowd, was particularly conspicuous.

Especially since he was giving the woman next to him a brilliant smile.

Gu Qingyin raised an eyebrow. ’What’s this about?’
