Chapter 299: Chapter 298: Send Them Away Quickly

Shan Jinjin swallowed hard. It took her a long moment to find her voice, but it still trembled uncontrollably. "I... I don’t know how to get the System out."

Gu Qingyin spread her hands. "Well, there’s nothing I can do then."

She took two steps to the side, and Huo Yunjing stepped forward.

This man, once considered a prime asset in the eyes of Shan Jinjin and her System, now had both of them trembling in fear, as if they were looking at some kind of deranged serial killer.

"Wh-what are you trying to do? Killing is against the law!" Shan Jinjin retreated involuntarily, trying to get away, but after just two steps, her back bumped into the closed door.

Huo Yunjing raised his hand with a blank expression, reaching for Shan Jinjin’s head...

"Oof—Son!" Gu Qingyin’s voice rang out. "Look at your dad. Doesn’t he look like a thug strong-arming an innocent citizen?"

Huo Yunjing instantly withdrew his hand and turned to look at Gu Qingyin, speechless.

Gu Qingyin chuckled, raising a hand to her mouth and making a zipping motion to show she would keep quiet.

Huo Xingye smiled and shook his head. ’She’s so bad at this but loves to stir the pot.’

Shan Jinjin seized the opportunity to escape and started discussing with her System what item to exchange for. Just as they reached a decision but before she could make the exchange, the System suddenly went silent. Shan Jinjin called out to it anxiously a few times, then looked up to see a round, glowing orb in Huo Yunjing’s hand.

Shan Jinjin was horrified. "System?!"

The orb of light trembled and responded with a whimper, "Host!!"

The person and the System called out to each other in perfect harmony, like a pair of lovers cruelly torn apart by a villain...

Huo Yunjing remained expressionless. He squeezed the System slightly with his fingers, and it immediately let out a "CRUNCH," as if it were about to shatter.

Gu Qingyin shivered, unable to stand it. "You’re overdoing it with the drama. That’s enough. It’s not like I won’t give it back to you."

Shan Jinjin whimpered from where she was huddled in the corner.

Gu Qingyin stepped forward and took the System. Her Soul Power spread out, completely enveloping it before gradually penetrating it. The process was slow; the System’s outer shell was very dense, and it took her nearly ten minutes to break through.

Then, her "vision" suddenly opened up, and she saw what the System’s interior looked like.

It was like an ocean of data, sometimes morphing into long serpents of data, other times into bizarrely shaped objects. Following the data ocean upward, she saw a panel.

It displayed Shan Jinjin’s basic information, her main quest, the System store, her inventory, and so on. This was likely everything Shan Jinjin could normally see.

This ocean of data was the System’s most important database.

Gu Qingyin looked around for a moment, then suddenly dove deep into the data sea. After an unknown amount of time, she saw a representation of Shan Jinjin floating in the data sea, bound tightly by chains of data.

Or rather, it was a part of Shan Jinjin’s soul. This was the so-called "binding" of the System. To Gu Qingyin, this part of the soul looked more like a hostage.

Gu Qingyin used her Soul Power to tug at the data chains. The moment she was about to apply force, Shan Jinjin’s brow furrowed, her face contorting in pain.

Gu Qingyin clicked her tongue. ’Looks like I can’t forcibly unbind it,’ she thought. ’Otherwise, this part of Shan Jinjin’s soul would most likely be destroyed, and it’s easy to imagine that Shan Jinjin herself wouldn’t fare much better.’

Shaking her head, Gu Qingyin changed direction and continued to explore. By chance, she passed through a data barrier and entered a vast, empty space. In the distance, a metallic, three-sided prism floated in mid-air, slowly rotating.

The prism was silver, its surface carved with profound and arcane patterns.

Gu Qingyin instinctively took a closer look, but the next second, a sharp pain shot through her eyes. Her vision went black, and she was suddenly overcome by a sensation of weightlessness.

"Qing Yin!"

When Gu Qingyin regained consciousness, she was already lying in Huo Xingye’s break room.

"How are you feeling?" Huo Yunjing sat by the bed, his eyes filled with anxiety and worry. "Are you uncomfortable anywhere?"

Gu Qingyin took stock of herself. Aside from a slight dizziness, she didn’t feel anything else.

"I’m fine." Gu Qingyin offered a reassuring smile. "Did I pass out?"

"Yes." Huo Yunjing’s lips were pressed into a thin line. "You must have touched upon the System’s core secret. The energy that erupted at that moment was immense, and even the System doesn’t know where it came from."

Gu Qingyin frowned, trying to remember, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t recall what the thing she saw before passing out looked like. She only remembered that it was something profound, mysterious, and powerful.

She pinched the bridge of her nose. "Forget it. The universe is vast and full of wonders. For all we know, in the eyes of some higher-dimensional being, we’re just slightly more formidable ants that they could crush with a flick of their fingers."

That’s what she said, but Gu Qingyin still felt a little uneasy. Sighing inwardly, she asked, "Where’s the System?"

Huo Yunjing’s gaze was profound. He flipped his hand over, revealing the System. "Right here."

Gu Qingyin didn’t take it. She asked softly, "Are there many systems like you?"

The System was terrified and told her everything it knew. "Many. I’m just one of many. There are also many small worlds like yours. Almost every small world has a mission-taker, but their specific tasks are different. We leave after completing our tasks, so we don’t affect the world’s operation." It paused, then added, "Even if there is an impact, it only affects a few people."

Gu Qingyin nodded thoughtfully. "What happens if the mission fails?"

The System trembled. "In a minor case, the target is changed. In a severe case, we’re directly recalled."

As for what they faced after being recalled, no one knew.

Gu Qingyin breathed a sigh of relief. "Then just find someone else to target. Stay away from us. It would be best if you went abroad."

The System didn’t dare disobey and agreed profusely.

In the current situation, even if Gu Qingyin hadn’t said anything, it wouldn’t have dared to let its host stay. It was glaringly obvious that success was impossible.

Then again, it had never expected to be let go. It had always assumed it was going to be dismantled.

Having received a satisfactory answer, Gu Qingyin snuggled contentedly back into the blankets and fell asleep again.

Huo Yunjing walked out of the break room, holding the System. He went up to the terrified Shan Jinjin, tossed the System at her, and said coldly, "You have one day. Leave Huaxia. I don’t care where you go."

The System was back. Before Shan Jinjin could even feel happy, she heard the order of banishment. She instinctively wanted to protest, but just as she was about to speak, the System muted her.

The System set its speech rate to the maximum and quickly explained the situation to her.

As soon as Shan Jinjin heard that they had to change missions or the System would be dismantled, she instantly fell silent.

Seeing that she had calmed down, the System unmuted her.

Shan Jinjin stared at Huo Yunjing, took a few fearful steps back, then turned and ran.

Once inside the elevator, Shan Jinjin urged the System to apply for a visa and book a flight. She would go back, pack her things, and leave immediately!

Although Huo Yunjing didn’t understand the full picture, he could see Gu Qingyin’s apprehension toward the System.

Returning to the break room, Huo Yunjing whispered in her ear, "Shan Jinjin left with the System. She probably won’t be back in this lifetime."

Gu Qingyin was half-asleep. Hearing his words, she unconsciously curved her lips into a small smile and slept even more soundly.
