Chapter 657 Four Pillars: Traces of the Past

Chapter 657 Four Pillars: Traces of the Past

“Give me a second here.” As his eyes widened in disbelief, Valyr took in a deep breath as he pinched on the skin between his brows.

Then, staring at the pale man before him, he asked for clarification. “I’m not mistaken that you’re asking me to find the whereabouts of the last leader of humanity, right?”

Ryvrthe nodded as if it were a matter of fact. “That is correct.”

“By the last leader of humanity… you mean the leader of humanity during the time the Great Cataclysm happened, right?”

“Yeah…” The Sapient One nodded once more, only to finally understand what the young man was implying through his words.

Noticing the look of realization on Ryvrthe’s face, Valyr let out a faint sigh. “You understand what I’m getting at, right?”

“I do.” Ryvrthe faintly nodded, looking down at the floor for a bit as he pondered in silence.

“You’re asking for something that’s almost near impossible to achieve here,” said Valyr, letting the man go over his thoughts as he continued to talk.

“If you don’t get how absurd it is, you’re telling me to search for the whereabouts of a man whose feet were on Veldanyr’s surface at least over a hundred thousand years ago, possibly even more.”

“Sure, there’s the fact that human civilization back then was highly advanced, but with the interference of the Arbiters that led to the Great Cataclysm, how much of it in the outside world would have remained?” asked Valyr.

Then, he sighed. “Plus, with how large the continent is, I don’t even know where to begin my search for the man’s traces.”

“If anything, the only place I might find some clues regarding his whereabouts would be the city ruins on the surface.”

“That’s it!” Hearing the young man’s last statement, Ryvrthe shifted his attention towards Valyr as he looked at him with hope brimming in his eyes.

“I’m pretty sure you could find a clue or two on his whereabouts as long as you explore the city on the surface,” said the Sapient One, prompting Valyr to raise his eyebrows in slight confusion.

“Why are you adamant on finding the whereabouts of a man who has probably died a long time ago?” asked Valyr in response. “Would it serve you any purpose?”

At those words, Ryvrthe’s expression turned solemn. “Ever wondered why I had no reaction when you made mentions of an inheritance?”

“Aside from knowing that you’re inside one?” asked Valyr back, voicing out the hypothesis that had formed in his mind regarding the matter after talking to both Vrlvadh and the man before him.

“Aside from that.” Ryvrthe slowly nodded.

Taking in a deep breath, the man then said, “I have a strong feeling that the reason why I and the Forsaken race are inside this inheritance has something to do with the last leader of humanity.”

After that, Ryvrthe then told Valyr about the attitude and personality of the last leader of humanity.

Aside from being charismatic in his every action, the Sapient One mentioned that the last leader of humanity always made decisions while thinking about its effects on other things.

With that, Ryvrthe surmised that the reason why they had been put into the inheritance possibly had something to do with them being the last trace of humanity’s past, which the last leader of humanity wanted to preserve.

Indeed.

Possibly.

“Hold on for a second.” Pinching the skin between his brows once more, Valyr took in a deep breath before looking at Ryvrthe. “You’re telling me that you want me to look for his whereabouts… just because of a hunch?”

“Call it an educated guess instead of a hunch,” said the man in response, hoping to lighten the young man’s mood in the process. “In any case, I have a strong feeling that he left something for us that had been forced to stay underground.”

“Perhaps it could be a few items to help us get back on track.” Ryvrthe shrugged his shoulders. “Perhaps it could be a message.”

Seeing how the pale man in front of him remained hopeful of the situation, Valyr let out a faint sigh as he asked him, “You really want me to search for his whereabouts?”

Ryvrthe nodded. “The entire Forsaken race would definitely appreciate it if you do.”

“Alright.” Closing his eyes for a bit as multiple thoughts crossed through his mind, Valyr eventually gave the Sapient One a nod, causing the latter to become jubilant.

Though, not long after, the jubilation on Ryvrthe’s face disappeared after hearing Valyr’s next words. “However, I don’t do something like this for free.”

Slightly frowning as he stared at Valyr’s calm expression, a thought eventually surfaced on Ryvrthe’s mind, prompting him to inwardly let out a sigh.

‘I hope this is the last time I do this.’ Inwardly muttering these words to himself, the Sapient One commanded a screen to appear in front of his field of vision, interacting with it for quite some time as it closed sometime later.

Ding!

Hearing the notification sound resound in his mind, Valyr took a brief look at it, only to redirect his gaze at Ryvrthe as he looked at the latter with a hint of surprise.

“You’re really that adamant, huh,” muttered the young man as he looked at the notification once more.

[You have received a new quest: Traces of the Past.]

“I’ve already accepted the fact that he may have died a long time ago,” said Ryvrthe in response to his question. “However, with his personality, I am incredibly certain that he has left a few contingency plans for us… wherever it may be.”

“All I ask of you is to find traces of his whereabouts, as well as the check the city ruins if there are any traces of things that have been left for us,” continued the man.

“If the items that had been left for us are found in the outside world, then so be it. After all, as you’ve said, it has been at least a hundred thousand years since then.”

“But if those items exist inside the inheritance, then I don’t care how many people among the Forsaken race I sacrifice as long as I obtain them.”

Nodding in response to Ryvrthe’s words, Valyr felt like their conversation had finally come to an end. Realizing this, he decided to bid farewell to the man as he made his way to the exit that would lead him back to the Land of Origin.

Though, just as he was about to take his first step, a question suddenly popped up into his mind.

“Though I’m not sure if this would help me out in finding his whereabouts, what’s his name?”

“Vaughn,” replied Ryvrthe with a solemn tone.

“Vaughn Darkstar.”
