MMORPG: Rise of the Primordial Godsmith

Chapter 1753 1753: Opening the Floodgates

‘…Now that I think about it, it’s kind of weird.’

With the grind to upgrade his subclass finally over, Valyr took the time to spare some attention towards some of the things he noticed during the grind, one of which greatly stood out the moment he thought more about it.

‘What’s weird?’ asked Ataraxia through their connection. ‘Is it the Mystic Plane? Mystic Energy?’

‘The subclass,’ answered the former, causing the latter to pause for a bit while he was still familiarizing himself with Mystic Rune Alchemy. ‘I’ve gotten a good grasp of the other two… but haven’t you noticed how we haven’t gotten any skills from the subclass after getting it?’

‘…Huh,’ said Ataraxia in response, a look of realization flashing on his face as he gradually fell silent.

Briefly giving Mystia a glance after that, Valyr returned his attention back to the question, giving it more thought as the gears in his mind started turning.

Though the feat of completing all of the subclass’ prerequisite quests made it obvious that he had indeed gained the ability to concoct potions, only now did occur to him that he had done so without receiving any support from the system whatsoever.

If anything, the process in which he learned how to concoct potions was more similar to how one would pick up a skill back on Earth, which mostly revolved around the accumulation of experience and related knowledge.

Of course, that did not mean the same thing didn’t apply in the world of Greater Beyond.

After all, the only reason why he had gotten this far was because he set his mind to refining and mastering certain abilities at the start of his journey, relying on incessant repetition to accumulate both experience and knowledge in those areas.

Yet, unlike the outcome he experienced while learning alchemy, the system responded to his efforts at that time, transforming the knowledge and experience he accumulated into something that was more tangible.

A skill.

I could understand why I didn’t unlock any forging skills before obtaining a forging-related class,’ thought Valyr to himself as the gears in his mind continued to turn. ‘After all, most of the experience I have in forging was from my previous life.’

‘In comparison, I only forged a couple of things this time around before obtaining a blacksmithing class,’ he continued. ‘There wasn’t enough time nor effort put in for the system to recognize it.’

‘On the other hand, I’ve spent a lot more time concocting potions whether it be through the usual method or through Mystic Rune Alchemy.’ As these words came to mind, the young man decided to share his thoughts with Ataraxia through [Soul Entanglement].

‘Surely, with the amount of time and effort I’ve put in, I would’ve gotten at least a single skill from the system as recognition of my efforts, no?’

‘Yet, the opposite happened,’ replied his other self, continuing to focus most of his attention on his attempt at Mystic Rune Alchemy. ‘There was no skill whatsoever, nor was there any change related to it that happened.’

‘Well…’ Hearing those words, Valyr paused for a bit as he thought about the sequence of events that led to his mastery over Mystic Rune Alchemy. ‘It’s not like there wasn’t any change.’

His next words reminded Ataraxia of the same change that happened to him sometime earlier.

‘Haven’t you noticed how Mystia taught us how to fully control Mystic Energy before letting us delve into the world of alchemy?’

‘But doesn’t that control apply beyond Mystic Rune Alchemy, though?’ asked Ataraxia in return. ‘After all, it’s called [Basic True Mystic Energy Manipulation]. There’s nothing about it that relates to alchemy whatsoever.’

‘Yet it does in a way,’ said Valyr, feeling like he was getting somewhere yet nowhere with the topic at the same time. ‘Yet it does.’

Wondering if he should continue his current train of thought to see where it would lead him, the young man eventually decided to stop since there wasn’t really any other reason for him to figure out why the subclass didn’t give a skill after getting it.

Plus, if the curiosity he felt actually hindered him from doing anything else, then he could always ask Mystia more about it, considering that she was the one who created the subclass he owned in the first place.

‘I’ll probably find out why the moment I upgrade my subclass,’ muttered Valyr to himself, recalling that the reward that came alongside the upgrade to the subclass’ rarity were a number of skills related to the subclass.

‘With how I haven’t received any skill from the system after obtaining the subclass, that only means I’d obtain a set of powerful skills through the upgrade, right?’

Somewhat hopeful that his thoughts on the matter were true, the young man went ahead and gave the system the signal it needed to proceed with the subclass upgrade.

Whoosh!

Having prepared for the upgrade by distancing himself from the others, Valyr’s eyes widened in surprise after noticing his aura expand to cover over a hundred meters around him.

Looking at the change to his aura with a hint of curiosity, the young man soon noticed that the Mystic Energy within the area started to move, all of which began to head towards him.

Swoosh! Swoosh!

In a matter of seconds, a great amount of Mystic Energy began to flow around him, only to enter his body not long after as he felt his connection with the Mystic Plane gradually become deeper.

At the same time, he felt packets of various information enter his mind every once in a while, expanding his knowledge and understanding in regards to Mystic Energy and how it could aid him in alchemy.

By the time the Mystic Energy within the area he covered was gone, a final packet of information entered his mind, sending him knowledge on what seemed like an odd alchemical recipe at first glance.

Though, before he could pay any further attention to it, a series of notifications erupted from the system not long after, informing him that the upgrade to his subclass was finally done.

Ding!

Spending a bit of time to acclimate to the newfound sensations that came along with the upgrade, Valyr eventually let out a soft exhale as he headed towards where Mystia and Ataraxia were.

‘Although the upgrade’s given me a number of answers, it’s also given me a lot more questions in return,’ he muttered to himself, closing his eyes for a brief moment as he spared a bit of attention towards the notifications he received.

Though, once he took a look at the notifications that came from the upgrade, the young man could not help but stop in his tracks as a question popped up in his mind.

‘…Can I still consider this as a subclass?’
