Chapter 1607: Breaking Barriers: The Third Trial (2)
“…Now, before you tell me that the possibility of you clearing the third trial doesn’t exist, let me first tell you that this trial is also an opportunity.”
Just as Ataraxia was about to complain to Aeramis that he didn’t know how to make skills from scratch, the latter seemingly read his mind with his next statement before the former could voice out.
Because of that, the young man was briefly left stunned silent, blankly staring at the man as he waited for the latter’s next words.
Letting out a slight chuckle at Ataraxia’s reaction, the man continued, “The reason why I tell you that this trial is an opportunity is because I arranged this trial to be done whether or not the inheritor that tackles it has experience with making skills beforehand.”
“At this point, I’m certain you already understand what I’m hinting at, right?”
Though Ataraxia remained silent, the young man profusely nodded at his question, his eyes faintly glistening as he felt like he knew what Aeramis would tell him next.
The opportunity to learn how to make skills from scratch!
Although Ataraxia was able to access all of his memories of the time he spent in Greater Beyond in his past life, none of it had anything to do with the creation of skills from scratch.
The reason behind that lack of experience was because the young man did not pursue the path of personal skills in his past life. If anything, he mostly relied on skills he obtained from his class, the quests he received, or the skill books he bought.
Never once did the thought of creating a skill from scratch ever cross his mind.
Then again, with his circumstances back then, the choice to forgo personal skills made a lot of sense.
Though his current life made it seem like blacksmithing was one part of what he knew about Greater Beyond, Ataraxia’s past life mostly, if not solely revolved around blacksmithing.
Whether it was the path he took to get to where he stood near the final battle, or the role he took up in the days that led up to it, almost all of it was due to the fact that he was a blacksmith, a being solely known for their ability to craft and improve equipment.
With that being said, although forging equipment did need a bit of field testing here and there from time to time, the young man felt that it was a waste of time for him to hone his combat skills.
By extension, that also meant that there was no point in him creating personal skills that improved his combat strength.
Of course, that did not mean that personal skills could only be used in combat. The young man easily recalled a great number of profession-based players that had created their own skills for the purpose of bettering their production.
However, with the improvements brought about by said skills only being marginal compared to the skills already given by their classes, the young man saw no purpose in making skills in that area either.
’Now that I think about it, even if I only had a couple of personal skills before the final battle, our side would’ve probably fared a bit better because of it,’ thought Ataraxia to himself as he gave it more thought, bitterly smiling soon after.
’Though not at the level of turning things around in the end, we would’ve been able to resist against the other side’s offensive for a bit longer if I even had one personal skill that improved the quality of my crafts.’
Deciding to take this opportunity to correct one of the greater wrongs in his past life, Ataraxia focused all of his attention to what Aeramis had to say next, not wanting to miss even a single word that left the latter’s mouth.
“Of course, you might be asking yourself. Isn’t making a movement skill from scratch a stark contrast to the trials I’ve gone through so far?”
“Though it might seem like a stretch, the act of creating a movement skill from scratch is actually the next step after the first two trials, especially if you give it a bit more thought,” said Aeramis, prompting the young man to nod as he continued to listen.
“Just in case you’ve forgotten, the first thing I worked on towards achieving my goal was to improve my speed.”
“Then, once I improved my speed to a level I was satisfied with, I then moved on to work on my maneuverability and stamina, especially since speed alone wouldn’t allow me to achieve my goals of exploring what the world had to offer.”
“Now, keep in mind that my speed is superb. I could tap into it at all times, thanks to the fact that I could maneuver through obstacles and I had the stamina to fuel it,” continued the man, his expression now calm. “But that’s all.”
“With the attributes I had at the time, I would only be able to explore a small portion of the world before I had to give up on my dreams.”
“Sure, I could ascend through the ranks to increase the number of places I could travel to, but there’s only so much attributes alone can do.”
“What I need is a way to further tap into the attributes I’ve honed and polished. A way to further transform the effort I’ve put towards my goal into greater results.”
“I needed… a skill.”
As those words left Aeramis’ mouth, the man went silent after that, giving Ataraxia all the time he needed to process everything he said just now.
Seeing that the young man had more or less wrapped his head around everything he said, it was only then did the man return the topic of the conversation back to the third trial.
“Now, before I have you undertake the trial, I’ll first teach you the basics to making a personal movement skill,” said the man, causing Ataraxia’s eyes to glisten with anticipation once more. “Though the steps to making them might differ, you could also use what I taught you to create personal skills of a different type.”
“However, while I’m teaching you how to create your own personal movement skill, keep in mind that the result I expect from you during the third trial is not for you to just create any random personal movement skill.”
“Instead, I want you to create… a Pseudo-Intent tier movement skill.”
