Chapter 1606: Breaking Barriers: The Third Trial (1)
“Now, hold on just a minute!” Not expecting Aeramis to proceed with the third trial so soon, Ataraxia looked at him in exasperation. “Can’t you at least let me take a look at the reward first?”
“Right.” Feeling a hint of anger in the young man’s face, the man decided to take a couple steps back as he bitterly smiled. “My apologies.”
“Thank you.” Letting out a faint sigh of relief at his response, the young man took in a deep breath before shifting his attention towards the notification screen in front of him.
Whoosh!
[You have reached the limit of the second trial the Fleet-footed Monarch has set in his inheritance.]
[Due to this feat, your title ’Recognition of Broken Horizons — Stage I’ has been upgraded to ’Recognition of Broken Horizons — Stage II’.]
As he read through these notifications, Ataraxia took a brief moment to sense the changes brought about by the upgrade to the Extended Title.
Though, seeing as he could not exactly measure the difference between the title’s effects before to its effects now, the young man went ahead and brought up the title’s upgraded description to his side.
Ding!
————
[Recognition of Broken Horizons — Stage II] (Title)
Rarity: Legendary+ (Special)
To you who has taken a step that even the Fleet-footed Monarch couldn’t achieve… description has been omitted.
…
Currently, the number of trials the owner has reached the limit of is two.
Effects:
> +8% boost to AGI and DEX
> +4% boost to all stats aside from AGI and DEX
> +8% boost to Movement Speed
> +8% boost to Reaction Speed
————
’A 3% boost to AGI, DEX, movement, and reaction speed, as well as a doubling of the other stats.’
As this thought popped up in his mind, the young man faintly nodded in understanding, closing both screens as he went ahead and did a few basic movements to better grasp the changes to the Extended Title.
Fortunately, it only took him a couple minutes of repeated movements to get a good idea of the changes, the results of which caused his expression to turn into that of excitement.
’If my movement and reaction speed were at this level back when I was going for my last attempt at the second trial, I’m pretty sure I would’ve relied around 25% less on that strategy once I was starting to use it.’
Though such a conclusion seemed like an overexaggeration of the difference a 3% boost brought, the previous effects of the Extended Title previously gave him a 5% boost to both his movement and reaction speed.
With that in mind, it could be said that the effects of the title in that aspect were improved by 50%, which caused Ataraxia to come to that kind of conclusion.
Feeling a slight urge to try his hand at the second trial with his upgraded movement and reaction speed, the young man decided to suppress this urge for now, getting the feeling that the third trial might just work in a similar way to the second trial.
“Shall we proceed with the third trial?” Seeing that Ataraxia was done going over the upgrade to his title, Aeramis went ahead and brought up the topic of the third trial once more.
Thankfully, the young man was ready to proceed with the inheritance this time.
Whoosh!
Faintly nodding in response to Ataraxia’s confirmation, the man went ahead and released a great amount of energy into the surroundings, only to then have all of it congregate towards the large box that surrounded them.
Swoosh! Swoosh!
With the energy he controlled acting like the antithesis of anything it touched, the box began to disintegrate in front of their very eyes, only taking less than a minute to fully disappear before the two found themselves within the clearing of a forest once more.
After briefly admiring the surroundings around them, the two then made their way to the edge of the clearing, allowing Aeramis to conjure the things that would be used during the third trial.
Rumble…
Briefly wondering if a different structure would be summoned for the third trial, Ataraxia instead watched as the terrain in front of him began to undergo great changes under Aeramis’ control.
Whoosh!
Lining the opposite edge of the clearing, a number of hills and mountains slowly began to jut out of the ground, with each one eventually reaching a height that the young man felt was difficult to reach.
Though, after taking another look at these landmasses, the young man noticed that the hills and mountains were arranged according to their height, with the highest mountain among them being positioned to the right side of the clearing.
Once the wall of hills and mountains were fully summoned, Aeramis then proceeded to change more of the terrain, transforming the center of the clearing into a lake that spanned over a couple hundred meters in width.
After that, he transformed what was left from the left portion of the clearing into a desert, only to then transform what remained of the right portion of the clearing into a swamp.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
However, just as Ataraxia was beginning to think that the man was finally done with his changes, Aeramis went ahead and summoned a number of stone pillars on both sides, briefly causing the young man to think that he was looking at an abandoned shrine of some sort.
“And that about settles it,” said the man, a proud smile on his face as he admired the work he put in to transform the surroundings in front of them.
“Is this where the third trial will be held?” Although he knew that Aeramis had changed the entire clearing in preparation for the third trial, the young man still could not help but ask the man for clarification.
“This entire place?”
“Pretty much.” The man nodded in agreement, his gaze towards the young man a mix of anticipation and amusement. “What you see before you is everything you would need to clear the third trial.”
“Everything I’d need?” Taking yet another glance at the transformed landscape in front of him, Ataraxia soon looked back at the man as he scratched the back of his head. “What do you mean?”
Hearing those words, Aeramis finally began to explain the third trial’s mechanics. “Unlike the first two trials, where your abilities in a certain area were tested, the third trial before you shall test your capabilities.”
“Specifically, your capability of creating a movement skill from scratch.”
