Chapter 1586: Breaking Horizons

Chapter 1586: Breaking Horizons

Whoosh!

Stepping foot on the other side of the gate, Ataraxia quickly found himself at a place that embodied the complete opposite of what the Realm of New Horizons contained.

“Whoa…”

Looking around his current surroundings, the young man immediately thought of the cloud-like realm Arcane used to meet up with him whenever he had a query to ask of her.

However, unlike Arcane’s realm, the clouds beneath his feet did not give off any solid feeling whatsoever. Instead, he felt as if there was something intangible on top of the clouds that allowed him to walk on it unimpeded.

Gradually getting over the brief fear he had of falling through the clouds beneath him, the young man soon began to walk through the area a bit more, allowing him to get a better look at what the place offered.

With that, it did not take long for him to take note of the beautiful views that extended past the area he was on, the various clouds lining the sky giving off the same tranquility that greeted him and the others the moment the gate was opened.

“I guess I shouldn’t expect no less from the so-called Realm of Breaking Horizons,” murmured the young man to himself after he was done exploring, letting out a slight chuckle as he continued to glance at his surroundings.

At the same time, he tried to recall everything he knew about the inheritance, rummaging through his treasure trove of memories as he faintly wondered what would happen next.

Although it was an inheritance that was gradually forgotten the stronger players got, Ataraxia recalled that the Realm of Breaking Horizons was an inheritance almost everyone wanted to access the moment it was discovered.

After all, during that time, players had only begun to grasp the actual intricacies behind getting stronger within the game.

Experimenting with stats and classes to make sure they did not invite the existence of the ceiling once more, the players subconsciously placed less importance towards their skills, thinking of them as nothing more than vehicles that allowed them to make full use of their stats.

However, once players began to discover what kind of rewards the inheritance offered, the players were gradually reminded of how important skills were.

Specifically, they were reminded how each type of skill played a massive role in allowing them to exert as much of their strength as possible.

The reason why players were reminded of this was because the Realm of Breaking Horizons tested one’s movement, an aspect of combat almost no player had given a second thought to until after the inheritance was discovered.

“After the first batch of players reaped the rewards of the inheritance, almost everyone in Greater Beyond took note of how effortless they made fighting monsters look,” muttered Ataraxia to himself as he heard the faint sound of rumbling echo throughout the area.

“At first, people thought the Realm of Breaking Horizons taught players new skills or new combat techniques that elevated one’s abilities to the next realm.”

“However, once everyone found out that the inheritance actually gave players movement skills rather than combat techniques… I’m pretty sure everyone lost their shit for quite some time after that.”

Letting out a slight chuckle at the memories he recalled about the inheritance, the young man watched as three paths slowly manifested near the end of the realm he was in.

Seeing as the paths were made of the same wispy clouds beneath his feet, Ataraxia decided to wait for a bit longer, getting the feeling that the paths were only the start of what the inheritance had to offer.

Unsurprisingly, his thoughts ended up being the case, with large wooden signs appearing on the side of the paths a few seconds later.

Then, a few more seconds after that, a tall yet lanky man appeared in front of the three paths, his expression solemn as he looked at the young man directly in the eye.

“To you who has unlocked the secret of the Realm of New Horizons, welcome to this realm of mine,” said the man, his voice echoing throughout the entire space. “By entering this place, you have obtained a rare opportunity to inherit a portion of the fruits that have resulted from my efforts.”

“However, before I continue, I must remind you that this opportunity is not for the faint-hearted,” the man continued, his tone akin to the ebb and flow of waves. “Similar to the hardships I’ve faced, the trials I’ve put in place shall test your grit and mettle to see if you are truly worthy of inheriting my abilities.”

“With that said, shall you retreat from this opportunity? Or shall you face it head-on as I did?”

“I shall face it head-on,” answered Ataraxia, his expression calm as he gave the man a faint yet confident smile. “After all, it is an honor to inherit the abilities of the one who pursued the pinnacle of movement.”

“A fine choice.” Hearing those words, the man returned a faint smile of his own. “Only with the courage to push yourself to your limits shall it be possible for you to turn your aspirations and dreams into the reality you seek.”

“Yet, even with such a lesson deeply engraved into my heart…” At these words, the man’s smile turned slightly crooked. “I failed at the step that mattered the most on my journey, turning me into yet another being eventually forgotten by many.”

For a while after that, silence enveloped the entire realm.

To no surprise, Ataraxia shifted his gaze back and forth between the man and the paths behind the latter, getting the feeling that it wouldn’t be a good idea for him to share his thoughts on the matter.

Then again, just as he began to feel like the silence surrounding them had been stretched for long enough, the man spoke once more, letting out a faint sigh before doing so.

“In any case, such events are nothing but a matter of the past,” the man said, his faint smile returning to how it was before.

“What matters instead… is the choice you shall now be making for yourself.”

Stepping to the side of the three paths, the man began to offer Ataraxia a brief explanation. “I’m certain that these paths have already caught your attention before my eventual appearance.”

“To summarize what they embody, the three paths offer you the opportunity to choose the amount of hardships you shall be undertaking to obtain the fruits of my labor.”

“Of course, the more hardships you decide to undertake, the more of my abilities you shall inherit in the end.”

“With all of that said…”

“What shall you choose between the three?”
