Chapter 1585: A New Horizon
Chapter 1585: A New Horizon
Whoosh!
After obtaining news that the similarly-shaped hole was found, Ataraxia did not hesitate to stop his search as he made his way to where the hole was.
With that, he soon found himself near the boundary that led to the next layer of the dungeon, eliciting a hint of excitement to appear on his face as he had the person that found the hole lead him to it.
“Here we are.” In the end, the two found themselves only a few meters away from the next layer’s boundary, with the person that found the hole directly pointing at it soon after.
“There’s the hole.”
“…” Glancing up to look at the hole, the young man went silent for a bit as he took out the stone he had everyone else use as reference.
Moving a bit closer, he then proceeded to overlay the stone on top of the hole, checking to see if the hole the person found was indeed the hole he’d been looking for.
Thankfully, after a couple back-and-forths, it did not take long for him to confirm that the hole that group member found was indeed the one, forcing him to suppress his excitement the moment he confirmed it.
“Huu…” Letting out a long exhale to compose himself, Ataraxia had everyone else stop their search through the group chat, only to then inform everyone that the hole he’d been looking for was found.
Once everyone else had arrived at where he and the person that found it were, it was only then did the young man take a few more steps forward, placing the stone directly on top of the hole after that.
Krshh…
Pushing on the stone with a bit more force, Ataraxia and the others watched as the stone gradually fall flush with the entire wall, its seamlessness making it seem as if there wasn’t a hole in the first place.
“So…” Seeing as nothing out of the sort occurred after the young man had inserted the stone, Alisa took it upon herself to ask him more about it. “What now?”
“For now… we wait,” replied the young man after giving a bit of thought, only to shift his mind’s focus towards rummaging through his treasure trove of past memories.
Although Ataraxia looked calm on the outside, the young man was anything but calm on the inside. After all, the fact that nothing about the dungeon changed even after he inserted the stone into the hole was something he didn’t know about.
As far as his memories told him, the dungeon would almost always react immediately once the stone had been inserted into the hole.
’Is it because this is the first time the inheritance has been activated?’ thought Ataraxia to himself by the time he was done rummaging, recalling that some of the more permanent inheritances took a bit of time to activate due to it lying dormant for a very long time.
With that in mind, the young man decided to wait in silence for now, thinking of giving the thing a few minutes before proceeding to try a different approach.
’If the inheritance still doesn’t open even after waiting for that much time…’ The young man inwardly let out a sigh. ’Then I guess we just weren’t fated to be the first ones to get it.’
And so, Ataraxia waited for the dungeon to give him signs, giving everyone else a heads-up that it might take some time for the inheritance he mentioned to appear.
Fortunately, none of his members asked him any follow-up questions after that, confident that what their leader told them was the truth.
Rumble…
Just as the young man’s patience was beginning to run thin, the dungeon walls began to rumble all of a sudden, prompting him and all the other members of the group to look at one another with a mix of disbelief and anticipation.
Rumble…
With the rumbling coming from the walls gradually intensifying, Ataraxia decided to have the entire group convene at the center of the 58th layer for the meantime, inwardly getting the feeling that one of the walls would eventually give in and collapse in response to the continuous rumbling.
Yet, even after the rumbling continued for a couple more minutes, none of the dungeon’s walls collapsed whatsoever.
Instead, what greeted Ataraxia and his group from slightly afar was a large gate that seemed to lead somewhere else, the faint aura it gave off reminiscent of the gentle and warm breeze that softly blew through forests and plains alike.
“This…” For a while, Thomas was at a loss for words after seeing the gate appear before them. “This… is the inheritance you were talking about?”
“It feels…”
“Different from the dungeon?” asked Ataraxia in return.
Thomas nodded in response, only for the others to nod in agreement soon after.
“Not surprising you say that,” replied the young man, letting out a chuckle in amusement. “After all, the dungeon is all about fighting a certain amount of monsters per layer.”
“On the other hand, the feeling you get from the gate is something else entirely,” he continued, slowly walking towards the gate.
“Do you feel like the gate is… freeing?”
“Freeing…” Thomas mulled over the word for a bit. “…Yeah. That’d probably best describe it.”
“It kind of feels like the dungeon is this small cage, while that gate is a door to a wide and open field.”
“Well said,” said Ataraxia in response with a smile as he stood in front of the gate before everyone.
“Now, before I have all of you cross this gate, keep in mind to not bite off more than you could chew.”
Sweeping his gaze over the entire group, he continued, “According to the information I’ve gathered from the kingdom’s library, both this dungeon and inheritance was made by someone who pursued the pinnacle of movement.”
“Though they failed to meet that goal in the end, their proficiency with movement was still leagues ahead above the rest. Then again, considering how they aimed to head to any place they wanted at any moment, I guess that outcome goes without saying.”
“In any case, as long as you keep that being’s original intentions in mind, clearing all the trials the inheritance throws at you will be easy.”
“…Any other questions?”
“What kind of rewards would we get from the inheritance?” Once Ataraxia was done with his explanation, Meria decided to ask the question that was weighing on everyone’s minds.
“Considering the background you gave us… is the reward a powerful movement skill?”
“It’s not just any powerful movement skill.” Saying these words, the young man gave them a mysterious smile.
“Even at its weakest form, it’s a toggleable skill that allows you…”
“…To fly.”
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Hearing that the inheritance gave them the possibility to fly, it was no surprise that everyone in the group began to charge towards the gate, their presence disappearing from the Realm of New Horizons in a matter of seconds.
Watching his fellow guild members rush into the inheritance with excitement written all over their faces, Ataraxia could only let out a wry chuckle in response, waiting for the others to enter until he was the only one remaining in the area.
Once he was the only one left, it was only then did he make his way to the gate, crossing through it before also disappearing from the dungeon not long after.
