Chapter 198: Chapter 140: A Date in a Dream

In the carriage on the return journey, besides the Viscount and his family, there was also a beautiful young woman.

She was none other than Mrs. Britney.

Having already broken up with the Viscount, she had received a hefty severance payment.

She had originally intended to give Lian 10,000 Gold Coins for his troubles, but he only accepted 1,000. He told her the remaining 9,000 Gold Coins were an investment in her, hoping she would become a successful merchant in Green Shade Territory.

Now, whenever Britney thought of Lian, an indescribable emotion stirred in her heart.

It was by no means romantic love, but rather the salvation one feels when, lost in darkness, they are suddenly touched by the gentle warmth of a sunbeam.

This salvation had given her a new purpose in life.

So, when Viscount Fenix Belo’s family heard they had lost two-thirds of their fortune and began cursing Lian Moria for his shamelessness, she was the only one who spoke up.

"If it weren’t for Lord Lian, you would have been left behind in Yusofa. Once the war starts, Yusofa will be turned to scorched earth. All your money would be seized by Mary, and not only would you lose your fortune, you’d lose your precious lives—oh, or suffer an even worse fate."

Britney glanced at the ladies and young misses in their magnificent dresses.

They immediately clung to each other. They knew the men of the Rose Army were no saints. Which of the pretty girls in Yusofa, unless they were of noble birth, hadn’t fallen victim to them?

"You... How can you be sure a war will break out? Yusofa is now territory under Lord Nancy’s name."

The Viscount’s eldest son retorted, unwilling to concede.

"I can’t guarantee it. But you could have chosen to stay and take that gamble. Win, and you keep your fortune. Lose, and you forfeit your lives."

Britney said coolly.

"Enough. Say no more."

Viscount Fenix Belo was a man who cared deeply about his dignity. Even though he and Britney were no longer together, he couldn’t stand seeing them argue in front of others.

Besides, Britney had just helped him immensely.

More than anyone, he had wanted to leave Yusofa—the city that had brought him nothing but disaster and disgrace.

Though they had parted ways, he still chose to respect Britney.

He knew that no one in this world would ever love him the way Britney had.

He also knew they could never go back, that Britney would never love him again.

The carriage fell silent.

Simo observed Viscount Fenix Belo and suddenly thought, ’He has great potential for the Revolutionary Army.’

Sally, however, pursed her lips. "I really don’t see what’s so great about Lian Moria. Why do all these women fall for a playboy like him?"

At Sally’s words, the expression on Viscount Fenix Belo’s face darkened further.

He couldn’t shake the feeling that their smooth departure from Yusofa was only possible because Britney had once again sold her body to secure the opportunity.

The thought made him burn with an even deeper shame.

Even when they reached Green Shade Territory, he would never want to see Britney again.

He would rather she lived on only in his memory than have to face her in person.

Meanwhile, at Blueberry Manor, Lian had acquired a new Maid.

The pink-haired Loli Succubus, after a thorough makeover by Annie, had transformed from a wretched little slave into an exquisite, porcelain doll-like loli Maid.

Annie had even thoughtfully tied her long hair up into two pigtails.

"Yina, your first task is to enter my dream and pluck a Dream Sleep Flower for me."

"B-but... I haven’t learned how to pick Dream Sleep Flowers yet."

Yina kept her head down, her hands nervously clasped together as she spoke timidly.

She was a naturally timid Succubus. She wouldn’t dare to resist even when captured, and if she ever cursed someone, it would be in a voice so quiet only she could hear.

Although the man before her seemed as tempting as a delicious cake, she remembered her status as a slave. She wouldn’t dare take a bite, let alone breathe too loudly in his presence.

Seeing the skittish Yina, Lian reached out and patted her on the shoulder.

"Don’t be so nervous."

Yina flinched as if shocked, her whole body trembling as she reflexively stumbled backward.

"I-I’m sorry."

Yina hugged her head and scrambled into a corner in a trauma response, crying, "Please don’t hit me."

"Yina."

Lian froze for a moment. ’Looks like the Loli Succubus suffered a lot before this. She’s developed a full-blown trauma response.’

"A Succubus’s self-healing ability is very strong," Annie reminded him. "Some people who capture them like to experiment, repeatedly inflicting wounds to see how quickly they can heal."

Lian looked at Yina, trembling in the corner, and sighed.

’Looks like Doctor Lian is on call again.’

’Only this time, it wasn’t the body that needed Healing, but the psyche.’

"Yina, are you prepared to swear an oath of loyalty to your new master?"

Lian’s expression suddenly turned serious as he looked at Yina.

Yina immediately scrambled up from the corner and trotted to Lian’s side, stammering, "I... I-I’m ready."

"Very good. Now, I want to know everything you’ve been through."

Lian sat down on the sofa. Yina glanced nervously at Annie, but Annie remained expressionless, offering no response.

"I... I originally... originally lived in Hog Town. It’s very far from here. My mother... she went missing during a hunt. I wanted to find her, so I left Hog Town, and then... then I was captured by humans... and sold to a black market merchant..."
