Chapter 165: Chapter 125: First Mistress (3)

Lian had no intention of treating them. Doing so would expose his secret.

These Knights weren’t Heartless; they were true followers of the Knight’s Path. Lian couldn’t be certain he could completely control them, so it was better to simply make them disappear.

This was also the price Mary willingly paid.

At 9:00 AM, the party, fully prepared, entered Yusofa.

Before their arrival, news that Nancy Scalia had become Lian Moria’s first mistress had already spread like wildfire and reached Yusofa.

Compared to the vast and resource-rich Blue Moon Territory, Yusofa was but a tiny speck of land, only one-tenth its size. However, it was exceptionally wealthy, thanks to a natural granary. Yusofa’s market was once a bustling hub, drawing merchants from all corners to purchase grain.

But now, it had sadly become a lifeless city, devoid of any energy or vitality.

Lian saw that along the streets, all the doors were shut tight. Only at the corner pastry shops did guards come and go, and every now and then, someone would drag out the brutalized body of a woman.

The negotiations were to be held at the mansion of Yusofa’s former Governor, Khrish. It was still some distance from the main street, which forced Lian to witness many unpleasant sights.

The party finally arrived at Khrish’s mansion. Legally, this place already belonged to Lian, but nominally, it still belonged to Mary.

Nominally, all of Yusofa belonged to Mary.

Mary’s first husband had been the Governor of Yusofa. After his death, she inherited his entire estate and installed Khrish, a former general in Yusofa, as the new puppet Governor to manage affairs on her behalf.

In the Council Hall, the diplomats from Rose Territory were seated at a round table. There were four of them, yet they occupied six seats, leaving only a single place for the Blue Moon Territory.

And so, Lian brazenly sat down in the empty seat among the diplomats—a seat likely intended for Mary.

As for the seat originally intended for him, Lian had Alex Pool take it instead.

This mixed-up arrangement instantly left the diplomats from Rose Territory dumbfounded.

"You must be Lord Lian, I presume? Lord Lian, this is not your place. You shouldn’t be sitting with us, unless you wish to become one of us."

An elderly diplomat—wearing a white wig, his face powdered and rouged, his manner pretentious—admonished him.

"Oh, I thought you’d arranged the seating this way intentionally, as a diplomatic gesture. To show we’re all here to seek common ground while respecting our differences, sitting together to discuss matters as equals. If that wasn’t the intention, why else would you have six seats, while the Blue Moon Territory has only one?"

Lian asked, feigning confusion.

"We heard that no one from the Blue Moon Territory was willing to negotiate with us," a younger diplomat said. "That you alone accepted this dangerous assignment. So we only prepared a place for you."

Lian smiled at the young diplomat. "You’re mistaken. It’s not that no one else was willing to come. It’s that I, more than anyone, wanted to be here. I figured, while I’m at it, I could also reclaim my property."

"Your property?"

The diplomats looked at Lian with suspicion.

Lian put on a mournful expression and produced a thick stack of documents.

"Oh, my great uncle, my poor uncle... Uncle Chris. When he died, he didn’t have a single direct relative to inherit his property. And so, the entire estate was passed down to me."

"These are the documents for my inheritance. They bear the joint seals of the Governors of the Blue Moon Territory and Yusofa, making them one hundred percent legally binding. Feel free to take a closer look."

"Whatever assets you’re discussing ’redeeming’ today, my personal property must be excluded. Otherwise, you would be infringing upon my private interests."
