Mindless Beasts
Chapter 101: The pain had escalated
The initial excitement of the food challenge at the main cafeteria during lunch time instantly turned into a vocal regret for Cassian.
Cassian moaned loudly, "Guys, I think I messed up. My stomach feels like it’s actually tearing. Why did I eat that last meatball when I know that we have sports today?"
Of course, Cassian kept groaning about his stomach but no one took him seriously at first because he’s always complaining about something.
The day was its usual hot and humid but Cassian started excessively perspiring a lot and slouching heavily, against the railing.
It was like Cassian no longer cared that he was out in public, just started unbuttoning his pants in front of his classmates while groaning.
Then Cassian complained, "I feel this intense abdominal pain in my stomach that feels like it’s pressing against my diaphragm."
That’s when Sly Foxx realized how serious it was watching Cassian’s face that had turned blue, like he was having difficulty breathing.
"Jack," said Sly. "Go find Instructor Emma and tell her Cassian needs help!"
Cassian was obviously reluctant to leave class and in denial, "No Jack, I’m fine I just need to relax a little."
Even while visibly sweating and dry-heaving.
Confused as to who to listen to, Sly Foxx made the decision for him.
When he snapped, "Jack move it, are you waiting for Cassian to die."
Jack immediately woke from his stupor at the urgency in Sly’s voice and scrambled to go find Instructor Emma.
Cassian’s anxiety was now palpable, both his hair and shirt were soaked, the pain had escalated to a point where he could no longer tolerate it.
Seeing that everybody was panicking on his behalf Cassian finally admitted to himself that he should let Instructor Emma take him to the campus infirmary.
Even his cute little hedgehog seemed to be suffering from the same symptoms.
Both of them were experiencing rapid heart rate and panting heavily.
By now a few of his classmates had gathered around them Cassian’s stubbornness turned into genuine worry, "I’m going to die from overeating, I’ll never eat another meatball as long as I live."
This was going to definitely make the chat forums and Cassian sighed inwardly knowing that he was going to suffer some embarrassment for today’s episode.
Going to the hospital for overeating was very humbling for Cassian.
He wished when Jack went to find Instructor Emma he didn’t make such an uproar in his panicked state drawing all his classmates attention to what was happening to Cassian.
Cassian blushed as he tried to avoid making eye contact with students from other P.E. classes that didn’t know him but were also using the field at the same time.
Finally Instructor Emma came running over to Cassian’s side with a flustered Jack trailing behind her.
"What happened Cassian?" inquired Instructor Emma.
Cassian tried to downplay the situation by saying, "I think I may be suffering from a little food poisoning."
But Jack took no notice of Cassian’s embarrassment and blurted out, "he lost a food challenge to Sly earlier at lunch time and ate over twenty plates of spaghetti and meatballs."
It didn’t take long for Instructor Emma to realize that Cassian was now in this dire situation because of the sheer volume of food he consumed.
Instructor Emma turned to Sly and asked, "what about you Sly, do you need to visit the hospital as well?"
"No teacher, I’m fine," replied Sly sheepishly, he could hear his classmates teasing and cracking jokes about them in the background.
Instructor Emma made arrangements with another Instructor to look after her class until she returned from taking Cassian to the hospital.
The instructor by the name of Perry agreed and this class just happened to be the same class that Victor and his friends also attended and were eying Sly with hate filled eyes.
They all watched Cassian walk away hunched over and leaning on Instructor Emma for support.
By now his pain had escalated because of how secure his nausea and cramps were but he didn’t want to be carried by Instructor Emma in front of his classmates.
Instructor Perry blew his whistle and yelled, "warm up time is over folks, get your last few stretches in and give me ten laps around the field. After that you can rest and I’ll assign you to teams for basketball matches later."
Sly’s class was full of the ’useless guides’ ; these were the overweight, some that were lazy and a few that were afraid of their own shadows.
All of them groaned when Instructor Perry told them to do ten laps around the field.
It would take them minutes just to complete the first lap.
Why did it have to be the A-tier instructor that their teacher left them with?
Instructor Perry was known for training his guides as hard as the alpha sentinels, forcing them to run ten laps was the equivalent of murder in their opinion.
None of them had any ambition beyond a desk job in the army and so naturally they didn’t bother to keep up with anything more than the bare minimum for fitness.
Jack Winchester, still felt winded after trying to keep up with Instructor Emma’s speed and now he found out he had to run ten laps, he couldn’t hide the horror on his face.
"I hate running the most," complained Jack bitterly.
Instructor Perry blew on his whistle again the sound was so irritating, "come on couch potatoes, everyone over to the start line now."
Sly and Jack followed the rest of their classmates over to the start line.
Instructor Perry was already over there checking on their forms and making sure that they were in the right formation to start running properly, he sent them off in batches of ten.
Jack and Sly got lane four and five respectively, they got on their knees and waited on Instructor Perry.
"On your mark, get set ... go!" shouted Instructor Perry before he blew his whistle.
The next set was already lining up while Jack and Sly were sprinting down the track.
This reminded Sly of the days when Ayana was still active and they would race each other around their grandparent’s home.
While reminiscing and lost in thoughts, Sly didn’t realize that he was running so fast.
To his classmates Sly Foxx looked like a brush of wind, a blur moving faster than a speeding bullet, leaving them shocked as he flew past them.
