Milf Acquisition System

Chapter 19: Public Fiction

  • Next Chapter

Lucas stepped out of the private elevator and into the sprawling penthouse. The quiet luxury of Camilla Verman’s sanctuary had been entirely dismantled.

The massive living room was buzzing with frantic energy.

A team of six public relations handlers rushed around the marble coffee tables with digital clipboards and steaming cups of espresso.

Heavy lighting rigs were set up near the floor-to-ceiling windows to capture the morning sun.

Camilla stood in the center of the chaos. She wore a tailored white blazer and matching trousers that made her look like an untouchable corporate deity.

Her dark hair was styled into sleek perfection. She was barking orders at a nervous lighting technician when she spotted Lucas walking through the entryway.

The room seemed to pause for a fraction of a second.

Lucas met her green eyes across the room. He activated his newly evolved Micro-Motive Perception.

The blue overlay immediately decoded the rigid tension in her shoulders and the subtle flare of her nostrils. She was operating on a severe lack of sleep.

The digital honeypot trap she set for Victoria had failed to trigger overnight. Because Victoria never moved her offshore funds, Camilla fully believed that Lucas had kept his mouth shut.

She believed he had actually sacrificed his own leverage just to protect her.

That realization was terrifying to a woman who trusted absolutely no one.

"You are exactly on time," Camilla said. She waved off a makeup artist and walked toward him. "I appreciate punctuality."

"I told you I answer when you call," Lucas replied smoothly.

Camilla stopped a foot away from him.

The scent of dark cherry and vanilla cut through the smell of hot electrical lamps and ozone.

She looked at his crisp white dress shirt and the bespoke charcoal suit she had bought for him.

Her gaze lingered on his chest for a second longer than necessary.

"This is Silas," Camilla said while gesturing to a tall man with a severe haircut and a wireless earpiece. "He is my director of public relations. He is going to walk you through the narrative before the press arrives."

Silas looked Lucas up and down with blatant condescension. He tapped his digital clipboard.

"Mr. Vintage," Silas drawled.

"The strategy is simple. You are the devoted partner. You do not speak about the real estate market. You do not discuss the charity gala metrics. When the cameras are rolling you smile, you keep your hand respectfully on her lower back, and you let Ms. Verman dictate the conversation.

You are a visual asset. Nothing more."

Lucas felt the familiar sting of being treated like a disposable errand boy. It was the exact same tone Richard used to use on him.

He looked at Camilla. Her Micro-Motive data flared bright blue.

She was watching him closely. She wanted to see if the man who boldly claimed he wanted to possess her last night would actually let a PR director put him on a leash.

If he submitted and played the role of a quiet lapdog, she would lose all respect for him.

Lucas turned his attention back to Silas.

"I am a wealth management consultant," Lucas said. His voice was calm but laced with the heavy resonance of his Silver Tongue skill. "I handle international asset allocation for clients who could buy this entire building. If I stand there like a mute accessory, the financial press will immediately recognize the engagement as a hollow PR stunt. They will write articles calling Ms. Verman desperate."

Silas narrowed his eyes. "Excuse me?"

"You heard him," Camilla interrupted. A wicked and thoroughly entertained smile curled her red lips. "He is not a prop, Silas. If you dress him up like a silent bodyguard, the board of directors will tear the narrative apart."

Silas swallowed his pride and adjusted his glasses.

"Understood. Then how do we handle the origin story? The press will ask how you met."

"We met during a hostile negotiation," Lucas lied smoothly. He did not miss a beat.

"She was trying to acquire a commercial property in the financial district. I was advising the seller. We spent three hours tearing each other’s contracts apart. I lost the commission, but I asked her to dinner anyway."

Camilla stared at him.

The sheer confidence of the fabricated story was flawless. It painted them as equals. It painted her as victorious and him as dangerously persistent.

"That is brilliant," Silas muttered while furiously typing the details into his tablet. "It establishes professional overlap and romantic friction. We use that."

A loud chime echoed from the private elevator.

The heavy doors slid open and three members of the financial press stepped into the penthouse alongside a professional photographer.

"Showtime," Camilla whispered.

She stepped seamlessly into Lucas’s side. He immediately wrapped his arm around her narrow waist.

The physical contact was electric. Even through the thick fabric of her white blazer, he could feel the sudden spike in her body heat.

She rested her hand on his chest and offered the cameras a dazzling, manufactured smile.

The next hour was a grueling marathon of flashing lights and invasive questions.

Lucas played his part with terrifying perfection.

His Somatic Composure kept his heart rate steady and his muscles relaxed.

Whenever a reporter tried to corner Camilla about the sudden nature of the engagement, Lucas seamlessly intervened.

He used his sophisticated etiquette knowledge to redirect the conversation with charming anecdotes and subtle financial jargon.

He did not just act like a devoted partner. He acted like a man fiercely protecting what belonged to him.

"Mr. Vintage," a sharp-eyed female reporter from a major business journal asked. "Ms. Verman is known for her aggressive corporate acquisitions. How does it feel to be the one she finally acquired?"

The room went completely silent. The flashing cameras paused.

Camilla stiffened against his side. It was a trap question designed to make him look subordinate and weak.

Lucas offered the reporter a slow, dangerous smile.

He tightened his grip on Camilla’s waist and pulled her a fraction of an inch closer.

"I think you have the dynamic backwards," Lucas said in a low, resonant voice. "Camilla acquires buildings. I acquire leverage. And right now, I am holding the most valuable asset in the city."

The reporters let out a collective murmur of approval. The photographer snapped a rapid series of shots.

Camilla looked up at him. Her green eyes were wide. The PR mask she wore for the cameras had completely fractured.

The flush rising on her neck was entirely genuine.

She was a tycoon who controlled massive empires, but in that single moment, she felt entirely consumed by his gravity.

[Critical Social Victory!]

[Target Dependency Level increasing rapidly.]

"Thank you, everyone," Silas announced loudly, stepping into the center of the room. "That is all the time we have this morning. Ms. Verman has a charity gala to prepare for."

The handlers quickly ushered the press out of the penthouse. The heavy elevator doors closed, sealing the quiet luxury of the room once again.

The PR team immediately began packing up the lighting rigs and clipboards. Silas offered a respectful nod before leading his staff down the secondary service hallway to leave.

Lucas and Camilla were suddenly alone in the center of the massive living room.

Camilla stepped out of his grip. She walked over to a marble side table and poured herself a glass of ice water.

Her hands were shaking slightly. She took a slow sip and kept her back turned to him.

"You are a terrifying liar, Lucas," Camilla murmured.

"I was just following the strategy," Lucas replied.

She turned around. The ice clinked against the crystal glass in her hand.

Her Micro-Motive data flared with a turbulent mixture of deep suspicion and intense physical desire. ℯℯ𝑙.

She still knew he came from Victoria’s camp.

She knew he was originally a mole. But the way he looked at her in front of the cameras felt too real.

"My forensic team finished their digital sweep this morning," Camilla said softly. She set her glass down and walked slowly toward him. "They found nothing. The offshore accounts were not touched. The money did not move."

"Is that a bad thing?" Lucas asked casually.

Camilla stopped right in front of him. She looked up into his eyes, searching for the crack in his armor.

"It means Victoria does not know I have her files," Camilla whispered. She reached out and flattened her palm against his chest, right over his racing heart. "It means you actually kept your mouth shut. You threw away your golden ticket to save me."

Lucas did not break eye contact. He let her construct the narrative in her own mind.

"I told you what I wanted last night," Lucas said.

Camilla let out a shaky breath.

She slid her hand up his chest and wrapped her fingers around the lapel of his charcoal suit.

She pulled him forward, forcing him to take a step closer. The scent of dark cherry and vanilla overwhelmed his senses.

"You are playing a dangerous game with my head," Camilla warned. Her voice dropped to a rough, melodic purr. "I am not a naive girl you can charm with pretty words."

A bright blue window shattered the air directly over her shoulder.

[High-Stakes Acquisition Quest Generated!] [Objective: Prove your commitment to the target.]

[Task: Escalate the physical intimacy in the current environment to secure her total trust before the charity gala.]

[Reward: 500 AP and Loyalty Tier Upgrade.]

[Failure Penalty: The target will dismiss your feelings as a PR act and permanently sever the romantic connection.]

Lucas stared at the prompt.

The System was demanding an immediate, aggressive escalation.

He looked down at the ruthless real estate tycoon holding his lapel. Her green eyes were blazing with a challenging fire.

She wanted him to cross the line.

She wanted to see if he would actually take what he claimed he desired.
