Milf Acquisition System
Chapter 15: Burgundy Nightdress
Lucas stared at the glowing blue text hovering in the space between him and his landlady. The System was demanding a ridiculous escalation. He had less than eight hours to secure an intimate physical favor from a woman who usually threatened him with eviction.
Evelyn tilted her head and watched him. Her hand remained resting lightly against his forearm. She was waiting for an answer.
Lucas mentally dismissed the notification and blinked twice.
"Just tired," Lucas lied while forcing a polite smile. "The long day caught up with me."
Evelyn withdrew her hand. The sudden loss of her warmth left a noticeable chill on his skin. She picked up his empty plate and carried it to the small kitchen sink. She turned on the faucet and began rinsing the ceramic dish. The sound of running water filled the quiet apartment.
"I will get you some blankets for the couch," Evelyn said without looking back. "The bathroom is down the hall if you need to wash up."
Lucas thanked her and walked into the small living room. He sat on the edge of the worn floral sofa and let out a slow breath. He unbuttoned the top two buttons of his dress shirt and rubbed his temples.
The situation was absurd. He had spent the entire week dealing with billionaires who treated human lives like poker chips. Now he was sitting in a cozy basement apartment trying to figure out how to seduce a tired forty-six-year-old widow without ending up homeless.
He needed those four hundred Acquisition Points. The impending war between Camilla and Victoria was going to require massive System upgrades if he wanted to survive. He could not afford to fail a high-tier quest just because he was afraid of an awkward conversation.
The water in the kitchen shut off. Evelyn walked down the narrow hallway and closed the bathroom door behind her.
Lucas stood up and slipped off his expensive suit jacket. He draped it carefully over a nearby wooden chair. He pulled his dress shirt loose from his trousers to make himself comfortable. The bespoke charcoal slacks fit him perfectly but they were tailored tight enough to leave very little to the imagination.
He waited in the quiet living room while the iron radiator hissed softly near the window.
Ten minutes passed before the bathroom door clicked open.
Evelyn stepped out into the hallway and paused. She had removed her oversized sweater and sweatpants. She was now wearing a simple burgundy nightdress. It was not fancy lingerie designed for a runway. It was a practical thin cotton garment a woman wore when she lived alone and did not expect company.
But the soft fabric clung to her body with merciless precision. It hugged the wide flare of her hips and the heavy curves of her chest. The thin straps rested against her bare shoulders and left the smooth skin of her collarbone exposed. She was holding a stack of folded blankets against her stomach like a makeshift shield.
She walked into the living room and stopped short when she saw him watching her.
Lucas did not look away. He remembered the rules of the System. He needed to establish confidence and project his desire. He let his gaze drop from her tired brown eyes down to the subtle dip of her neckline. He slowly traced the curve of her waist before meeting her gaze again. He wanted her to know exactly what he was looking at.
Evelyn tightened her grip on the folded blankets. A pink flush crept up her neck and settled on her cheeks.
"Are you staring at me?" Evelyn asked. Her voice lacked its usual strict authority. It sounded breathy and uncertain.
"Yes," Lucas answered plainly.
Evelyn shifted her weight from one foot to the other. She looked toward the small kitchen as if searching for an escape route.
"I am your landlady," she murmured while walking over to the couch. She dropped the blankets onto the cushions. "You should show a little respect."
"I have a lot of respect for you," Lucas said. He did not move from his spot in the center of the room. "That does not stop me from noticing how beautiful you look right now."
Evelyn froze. She kept her hands resting on the folded blankets. She was a woman who spent her days dealing with broken pipes and angry tenants. She was not used to a young man in a tailored suit calling her beautiful in the middle of the night.
"You are just exhausted," Evelyn rationalized while refusing to look at him. "You are not thinking straight. I will leave you to get some sleep."
She turned around to head back toward her bedroom.
Lucas knew he could not let her walk away. If she retreated behind a locked door the quest would fail and the romantic momentum would die. He took a deliberate step forward to block her path.
"I need to use the bathroom before I sleep," Lucas said softly.
Evelyn stopped. They were standing less than two feet apart in the narrow space between the coffee table and the couch. She had to look up slightly to meet his eyes. The sweet scent of vanilla radiating from her warm skin filled his lungs.
He did not step aside. He stood his ground and allowed his natural physical reaction to do the talking.
Evelyn glanced down.
The tailored fabric of his charcoal trousers highlighted the undeniable evidence of his arousal. He was a young healthy man standing close to a woman he found highly attractive. There was no hiding the rigid outline pressing against the expensive wool.
Evelyn stopped breathing for a second. Her brown eyes widened slightly. She stared at his waistline before her gaze slowly tracked back up his lean stomach and rested on his face. The pink flush on her chest deepened into a dark crimson.
"Lucas," she whispered.
"I am thinking perfectly straight," Lucas replied while keeping his voice low and steady. "I know exactly what I am looking at."
He activated his Advanced Body Language Reading. The blue visual overlay illuminated the minor details of her posture. Her shoulders were tense but she was leaning forward. Her pupils were dilated. Her pulse was hammering against her throat. She was battling a fierce internal conflict between her sensible nature and a profound aching loneliness.
"You are twenty-one years old," Evelyn said. Her voice trembled slightly. "I am old enough to be your mother. This is highly inappropriate."
"Does it feel inappropriate?" Lucas asked.
He closed the remaining distance between them. He did not reach out to touch her. He just let his body heat radiate against her thin burgundy nightdress. She did not back away. She stood her ground and looked up at him with parted lips.
"You are my tenant," Evelyn argued softly. It sounded more like a plea for self-control than an actual reprimand.
"I am a man standing in your living room," Lucas corrected her. He used the residual confidence from his Silver Tongue skill to lace his words with a dark persuasive resonance. "And you invited me down here."
"To sleep on the couch," she countered. Her breathing was becoming rapid and shallow.
"I am not tired anymore," Lucas said.
Evelyn let out a shaky breath. She raised her hands and placed them flat against his chest. She meant to push him away but her palms flattened against his firm pectorals through the thin fabric of his unbuttoned dress shirt. She lingered there. Her fingers curled slightly against his warm skin.
A pleasant chime echoed in his skull.
[Target resistance crumbling.]
[Dependency Level increasing by 15%.]
Evelyn stared at his chest for a long moment. She was tracing the line of his collarbone with her thumb. She was fighting a losing battle against her own desires. She had spent years taking care of everyone else and ignoring her own needs. Now a confident young man was standing in her home making her feel wanted for the first time in a decade.
She slowly slid her hands down his chest. Her palms glided over his stomach and stopped right above the silver buckle of his tailored belt.
Lucas felt his heart hammer against his ribs. The System had set a ridiculous deadline but he was inches away from securing the victory.
"Since i caused it..." Evelyn whispered while looking up through her eyelashes. "Then I should help."
