Chapter 1391: What Ifs
For the first time, the Core Elders and the Sect Master finally learned that there was another way to Transcend and leave this place. While everyone else was stuck searching for The Path, the Lover of Death had found another path forward.
"Even The Path couldn’t limit or defeat him... The Lover of Death truly is undefeated."
The Slumbering Storm spoke, her tone almost fanatical, as though she held an immensely deep fascination for the man.
How many people had comprehended the Law of Death to the Embodiment Stage before the Lover of Death? There had been many. Yet, not one of them had been accepted by Death itself, nor had they found the Altar of Death.
At the same time, the Core Elders and the Sect Master couldn’t help but consider a peculiar thought. If there was an Altar of Death, what if there were Altars for every Law in existence? Or perhaps even for all Universal Laws, since the Law of Death was a Universal Law, just like the Universal Law of Chaos.
The Altar of Chaos? The Altar of Punishment? The Altar of Truth? The Altar of Deceit? The Altar of Storm? The Altar of Sword?
But at the end of the day, these were all speculations... but if they could find such Altars, if they could...
They collectively sighed inwardly. It was a very fat fucking if. After all, the Lover of Death was merely one among an uncountable number of people who had ventured into the Unknown Regions.
But... what if the Lover of Death wasn’t just the "one"?
What if various Eternal Apexes had already left the Ecliptica Galaxy but had been presumed dead because nobody knew they had departed? After all, nobody would discover such an opportunity and then go around talking about it or leaving records of it. If they did, they would be discovered, killed, and the opportunity would be seized by someone else.
So, how many Eternal Apexes had already escaped through various methods hidden within the Unknown Regions?
Did the Eternal Apexes already know about this? Was that the reason why, despite the insane number of dead Eternal Apexes within the Unknown Regions, more Eternal Apexes continued to venture there regardless? Since the Law of Death had found one way to leave, how many methods of escaping the Ecliptica Galaxy actually existed?
Their minds burned with endless questions, their thoughts spiraling out of control as one possibility after another emerged.
The Deceiver of Laws’ eyes landed on Anthony as he spoke in a calm tone.
"If the Lover of Death left without telling anyone about the Altar of Death, how do you know all this? I don’t believe or think he’s the type to leave a record behind, even within his Inheritance."
He asked calmly, his tone bearing no suspicion or anything of the sort. He was simply curious and trying to understand how Anthony had come across such information.
Anthony remained silent for a moment before beginning to speak.
"I have an ability that functions in a manner similar to the Law of Truth. Through it, I can find out whatever I want, whenever I want. Besides, through Thought Conception, I can also discover whatever I want with a single thought."
His tone was calm and flat as he met the Deceiver of Laws’ eyes.
The Deceiver of Laws simply nodded, not overthinking the matter, as Anthony’s answer made perfect sense.
"Did you meet the Lover of Death?"
The Slumbering Storm asked.
Since most Inheritance Realms contained soul fragments of their owners hidden within them, it was only natural for her to ask.
At her question, Anthony nodded.
"But we didn’t talk much, and he didn’t reveal any secrets or anything of the sort."
He stated this before the Slumbering Storm could ask anything else about their meeting.
They continued asking various questions about the Lover of Death, such as what race he had truly belonged to at birth. After all, there had been times when he fought people as a Human, then as a Naga, or even as an Anubari, as the man possessed an ability or artifact that allowed him to alter his biological race.
Anthony answered everything without hiding anything.
After a while, the question and answer session came to an end, their curiosity finally satisfied, as they had learned a great deal from this expedition. The most important reward from the expedition was the information they had just received, because no matter how many items or treasures the Lover of Death might have left behind, they all paled in comparison to the knowledge Anthony had just revealed.
After a moment, Nathaniel decided to shift the discussion toward another important matter.
"Anthony, you’ve demonstrated that you’re stronger than everyone else. Eternal Apexes, who are referred to as Higher Ones and before whose mere presence people kneel, were slaughtered by you in barely more than a month after your ascension."
He began to speak, his eyes focused on Anthony, his tone calm.
"The Ecliptica Galaxy is already too small for someone like you, and just like the Lover of Death, sooner or later, you will leave as well. So, I ask... when do you plan to depart?"
He asked directly, without breaking eye contact or attempting to brush the matter aside.
"I won’t beat around the bush. When you leave, the Null Sect will be eaten alive and wiped out in its entirety. So, I’m asking you for a favor. Give us a date so that the Core Elders and I can do our best to prepare in advance for your departure."
He paused for a moment before adding in finality.
"And if there’s any way you can help prolong our inevitable deaths, the Core Elders and I would be eternally grateful."
Even as he spoke, he retained the demeanor of a Sect Master and the Founder of the Null family.
The Core Elders’ expressions shifted for a moment. They hadn’t expected the Sect Master to confront Anthony so directly with the question. But after a moment, they sighed as they understood that this was simply the kind of man their Sect Master was.
He wasn’t one to beat around the bush, conceal his intentions, or hide what he truly wanted to say.
Besides, his words were nothing but the truth. Anthony couldn’t remain here forever. Just like the Lover of Death, he too would eventually leave, making the destruction that would follow his departure the most pressing concern.
Even if they would be wiped out after he left, they would do everything possible to delay their deaths and destruction for as long as they could.
Although they didn’t know how Anthony intended to leave, they knew he could do so whenever he wanted. After all, if someone like Anthony couldn’t leave, then even the Lover of Death would have remained trapped here.
They turned their heads toward Anthony as they waited for his answer.
