Su Yubing knew that look.

"You’re angry."

Mo Yuxin nodded.

"Very."

She raised one hand.

The darkness stopped.

Then the entire black sky began to crack.

Mo Yuxin’s fingers slowly closed.

"You made one mistake."

The darkness trembled.

"You thought we were still the people from your records."

Su Yubing smiled.

Mo Yuxin’s aura rose.

The heavens shook.

"You should have checked how strong we became."

The darkness exploded outward.

The giant eye disappeared.

The sky returned.

Silence followed.

Skyfall City remained standing.

Barely.

Mo Yuxin looked around.

The city lord was unconscious.

Most cultivators were injured.

The central district had been destroyed.

Su Yubing looked at the wreckage.

"We haven’t even checked into an inn."

Mo Yuxin looked at her.

"We can find another one."

Su Yubing laughed.

"You really don’t care."

"I care about you."

"And the city?"

Mo Yuxin considered it.

"It will be fine."

Su Yubing shook her head.

"You’re impossible."

They walked through the ruined gate.

Behind them, the last broken formation flickered.

Inside the city, something moved beneath the rubble.

A young girl crawled out.

She looked toward Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing.

Her eyes were strangely familiar.

She whispered one sentence.

"You finally came back."

Mo Yuxin stopped.

Su Yubing stopped with her.

The girl smiled.

"Mother said you would return when the world was ready."

Mo Yuxin stared at her.

"Who is your mother?"

The girl’s smile became wider.

"The woman sleeping beneath Homeward City."

Mo Yuxin’s eyes narrowed.

The girl lifted one hand.

A black symbol appeared in her palm.

The same symbol from the seven lanterns.

"And she said to give you this."

The girl opened her hand.

A tiny black key floated above her palm.

Mo Yuxin looked at it.

For the first time in a very long while, she felt something that made even her expression change.

Recognition.

Not of the key.

Of the person who had made it.

Su Yubing quietly took her hand.

"Yuxin?"

Mo Yuxin looked at her.

Then she smiled.

"Let’s find out what we forgot."

Far away, beneath Homeward City, something opened its eyes.

And across the Southern Continent, seven ancient lanterns ignited at the same time.

The road to Skyfall City had ended.

But the journey they had actually been walking toward had only just begun.

The girl stood quietly in the middle of the broken street while smoke drifted around her.

She did not look afraid.

That alone made Mo Yuxin suspicious.

There were shattered buildings everywhere. Broken formation stones were still falling from the sky. Cultivators were helping the injured. The air was full of dust and scattered spiritual energy, yet the little girl stood there as calmly as if she had been waiting for someone outside a shop.

Su Yubing crouched down in front of her.

"What’s your name?"

The girl tilted her head.

"I don’t remember."

"That’s unfortunate."

"Mother said names are not important until after you wake up."

Su Yubing looked at Mo Yuxin.

Mo Yuxin walked over.

"How old are you?"

The girl thought about it.

"I don’t know."

"Where do you live?"

She pointed down.

"Here."

"Inside the city?"

The girl shook her head.

"Under it."

Mo Yuxin went silent.

She finally understood why she had not been able to identify the little girl’s aura.

It was mixed with the city’s spiritual veins.

She was not simply living beneath the city.

She was part of whatever was sleeping there.

Su Yubing reached out and gently touched the girl’s hair.

"Are you hungry?"

The girl immediately nodded.

Mo Yuxin smiled.

"That’s more important."

She took a storage pouch from her sleeve and brought out a few spirit fruits.

The girl’s eyes lit up.

She took one with both hands.

Then she took a bite.

Her expression became serious.

"Good."

Su Yubing laughed.

"She has good taste."

Mo Yuxin gave another fruit to Su Yubing.

"You eat too."

"I’m not hungry."

"You always say that and then steal mine."

Su Yubing accepted it.

"Fine."

The little girl watched them quietly.

After a moment she asked, "Are you really married?"

Mo Yuxin nodded.

"Yes."

"Mother said you would be."

Su Yubing smiled.

"Your mother knows us well."

The girl took another bite of the fruit.

"She said you fight all the time."

Mo Yuxin looked offended.

"We don’t."

Su Yubing laughed.

"Sometimes."

"That is not fighting."

"Then what is it?"

"Discussion."

"With swords?"

"Very passionate discussion."

The girl giggled.

It was the first normal sound she had made.

For some reason, that small laugh made the destroyed city feel less gloomy.

A few hours later, Skyfall City’s surviving elders gathered in a damaged hall.

The city lord had regained consciousness.

His face was pale, but he insisted on sitting upright.

Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing sat opposite him.

The little girl was eating candied spirit fruit beside Su Yubing.

The city lord kept glancing at her.

"Who is she?"

Mo Yuxin replied, "We are asking the same thing."

"She was not in the records."

"Your records are incomplete."

The city lord lowered his head.

"Yes."

A long silence followed.

Finally, he said, "The truth is that Skyfall City has never had one history."

Su Yubing raised an eyebrow.

"Explain."

"Every era rewrites it. Every time the city is about to fall, the upper powers erase part of its history and replace it with a new story. That way, nobody remembers what came before."

Mo Yuxin asked, "Who are the upper powers?"

The city lord shook his head.

"I don’t know."

"Then why did you know our names?"

"Because every city lord inherits a single command."

He looked directly at them.

"When Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing appear, activate the city’s defenses and prevent them from reaching the central tower."

Su Yubing frowned.

"Prevent us?"

"Yes."

Mo Yuxin looked toward the destroyed center of the city.

"But you couldn’t stop us."

The city lord gave a bitter smile.

"Nobody expected you to be this strong."

Mo Yuxin said nothing.
