Su Yubing covered her mouth to hide a laugh.

"Do not mind her."

The City Lord looked at Su Yubing.

"Your wife is terrifying."

Su Yubing nodded.

"She is."

Mo Yuxin glanced at her.

"Hey."

Su Yubing smiled innocently.

"I said terrifying, not bad."

Mo Yuxin immediately calmed down.

"That is better."

The city stopped descending.

But the problem had not been solved.

The formations beneath Skyfall City remained active.

And the ancient presence below the city was still awake.

The City Lord led them into an underground chamber.

Unlike the upper halls, this place looked ancient.

The walls were made of dark stone.

Old murals covered them.

Su Yubing studied the first mural.

It showed seven figures standing beside a vast gate.

The second mural showed the same figures fighting something enormous.

The third mural showed a woman standing alone at the center of a city.

Her face had been scratched away.

The fourth mural showed a pair of women holding hands.

Mo Yuxin stopped.

Su Yubing noticed.

"That looks familiar."

Mo Yuxin nodded.

"Very."

The mural showed two women standing beneath a blue lantern.

One had a sword.

The other held a book.

Their clothing was ancient.

Their faces had been deliberately erased.

Underneath them were four ancient characters.

Mo Yuxin translated them.

"Those Who Return."

Su Yubing was quiet.

The City Lord frowned.

"What does that mean?"

Mo Yuxin did not answer.

She reached toward the mural.

Su Yubing stopped her again.

"There is something behind it."

Mo Yuxin smiled.

"You always notice first."

"Because you touch suspicious things."

"I only touch suspicious things when you are nearby."

"That makes no sense."

"It makes perfect sense to me."

Su Yubing shook her head.

"Move."

She stepped forward.

Her fingers touched the wall.

A hidden passage opened.

The City Lord’s eyes widened.

"Our ancestors searched this entire underground district for centuries."

Su Yubing looked back.

"Apparently they did not search carefully enough."

Mo Yuxin smiled.

The passage led downward.

There were no traps.

No spiritual beasts.

No treasures.

Instead, there were rooms filled with ordinary things.

Beds.

Tables.

Cooking utensils.

Old paintings.

A child’s wooden toy.

The deeper they went, the less the place looked like an ancient battlefield.

It looked like someone had lived there.

The final room contained two stone chairs facing each other.

On one chair was a rusted sword.

On the other was a broken jade hairpin.

Su Yubing stared at the hairpin.

For some reason, her eyes became slightly distant.

Mo Yuxin immediately noticed.

"Yubing?"

Su Yubing looked at her.

"I am fine."

Mo Yuxin took her hand.

"Do not lie to me."

Su Yubing hesitated.

"I do not know why, but this place feels familiar."

Mo Yuxin looked at the two chairs.

She had the same feeling.

Not a memory.

Not exactly.

More like the faint echo of something that had happened a very long time ago.

A life they could not remember.

A promise they had already made.

Perhaps many promises.

Su Yubing whispered, "Do you ever wonder if we have met before?"

Mo Yuxin answered immediately.

"Yes."

"How many times?"

"I do not know."

"Would you recognize me?"

Mo Yuxin looked directly into her eyes.

"Every time."

Su Yubing’s eyes softened.

"Even if you did not remember me?"

"Especially then."

Su Yubing smiled.

"You are too confident."

"I know you."

"That is true."

They stood there holding hands while the ancient chamber remained silent around them.

The City Lord quietly stepped back.

For a moment, she did not feel like an observer witnessing two powerful cultivators.

She felt like she was standing in front of a very old story.

Then the jade hairpin moved.

It floated into the air.

Su Yubing’s eyes widened.

The hairpin flew toward her.

Mo Yuxin moved instantly.

She stood between them.

The hairpin stopped inches from her hand.

It released a pulse of spiritual energy.

A woman’s voice came from it.

"You came back."

Su Yubing’s face went pale.

The same voice continued.

"This time, do not leave her behind."

The hairpin cracked.

A vision appeared in the air.

Two women were standing on a mountain.

One looked like Mo Yuxin.

The other looked like Su Yubing.

Their clothing was completely different.

Their cultivation seemed unfathomably high.

Behind them was an enormous black gate.

The woman who looked like Su Yubing was crying.

The woman who looked like Mo Yuxin held her face.

Then the vision changed.

The black gate opened.

Something emerged.

The woman who looked like Mo Yuxin turned toward it.

The woman who looked like Su Yubing grabbed her hand.

Neither let go.

The vision shattered.

Mo Yuxin stood frozen.

Su Yubing was breathing slowly.

The City Lord was too stunned to speak.

Then Mo Yuxin said something that made the entire chamber silent again.

"I remember one thing."

Su Yubing looked at her.

"What?"

Mo Yuxin looked toward the broken hairpin.

"I promised you I would come back."

Su Yubing stared at her.

A tear appeared at the corner of her eye.

Mo Yuxin immediately pulled her into an embrace.

"Hey."

Su Yubing closed her eyes.

"I am not sad."

"I know."

"It is just strange."

"I know."

Mo Yuxin gently rubbed her back.

"Whatever happened before, we are here now."

Su Yubing nodded against her shoulder.

"Together."

"Together."

The City Lord quietly turned away.

She gave them privacy.

Several minutes passed.

When Su Yubing finally looked up, her expression had returned to normal.

"We still need to find the thief."

Mo Yuxin nodded.

"Yes."

"And then we should eat."

Mo Yuxin smiled.

"Definitely."

The City Lord stared at them.

"You are going to eat after discovering something this serious?"

Su Yubing replied naturally, "We have not eaten dinner."

The City Lord opened her mouth.

Then closed it.

There was nothing she could say to that.

They returned to the upper city.

The lockdown was still active.

But the central disturbance had stopped.

The guards were calmer.

The streets had reopened slightly.
