Maybe My Soulmate! (GL)
Chapter 290: Skyfall city 2.
The road to the mega city began with a forest.
And, naturally, the forest had monsters.
The first monster appeared before noon.
It was a Black Horned Tiger, a third-stage demonic beast large enough to swallow three ordinary cultivators whole.
It jumped from the trees with a roar.
Su Yubing did not even stop walking.
Mo Yuxin casually lifted one hand.
The tiger froze in midair.
Its giant paws hung above the ground.
Its mouth was still open.
Its roar ended in a confused growl.
Mo Yuxin looked at it.
The tiger looked back.
Su Yubing covered her mouth.
"What are you going to do?"
"I do not know."
"It looks frightened."
"It attacked us."
"Maybe it regrets it."
Mo Yuxin considered the tiger.
The tiger slowly lowered its head.
It made a small whimper.
Mo Yuxin released it.
The tiger hit the ground, rolled twice, got up, and immediately ran away.
Su Yubing smiled.
"You scared it."
"I was trying to teach it manners."
"It will probably tell every other beast in the forest that we are terrible people."
"Good."
They continued walking.
An hour later, they encountered a group of twenty young cultivators surrounding a wounded woman.
The scene looked exactly like something from a generic cultivation novel.
Several men wore expensive robes. Their spiritual pressure was not particularly high, but their clothes made it obvious that they belonged to a decent sect.
At the center stood a young woman in white.
She had a wounded shoulder and held a broken sword.
A young man standing opposite her had a smug expression.
"Senior Sister Qin, you should stop resisting. The Ghostfire Sect is not a place you can offend. Hand over the spirit beast egg, and I will let you leave."
The wounded woman gritted her teeth.
"I found it first."
"You found it inside territory controlled by our sect."
"Since when did your sect own the forest?"
The young man’s expression darkened.
"Since today."
Su Yubing looked at Mo Yuxin.
Mo Yuxin looked at Su Yubing.
Neither said anything.
They continued walking.
The young man noticed them.
"Stop."
Mo Yuxin stopped.
Su Yubing sighed quietly.
"Here we go."
Mo Yuxin leaned closer. "What?"
"Nothing."
The young man stepped toward them.
"You two. Give me your storage rings."
Mo Yuxin stared at him.
There was a long silence.
Then she asked, "Why?"
The young man frowned.
"Why? Because I am asking."
Su Yubing nearly laughed.
Mo Yuxin looked genuinely confused.
"That is not a reason."
"Do you know who I am?"
"No."
"I am the eldest disciple of the Ghostfire Sect."
"That still does not answer the question."
The man’s face turned red.
"You are courting death."
Mo Yuxin sighed.
She did not even draw her sword.
A tiny wave of spiritual pressure spread from her body.
The twenty cultivators were immediately forced to their knees.
The young man’s face went pale.
The wounded woman stared in shock.
Mo Yuxin looked at the group.
"We are just passing through."
Nobody answered.
"Please do not bother us."
The twenty people nodded rapidly.
Mo Yuxin turned around.
Su Yubing followed.
After several steps, she whispered, "That was not very dramatic."
Mo Yuxin smiled. "I am trying to stay low key."
"You made twenty people kneel."
"They were already kneeling before I used much strength."
"That is true."
The wounded woman suddenly ran after them.
"Senior! Wait!"
Mo Yuxin stopped.
The woman bowed deeply.
"Thank you for saving me."
Mo Yuxin shook her head. "We did not save you. We just walked past."
The woman looked confused.
Su Yubing smiled warmly. "You should leave quickly."
The woman nodded.
"May I know your names?"
Mo Yuxin thought for a moment.
"Yuxin."
Su Yubing glanced at her.
Mo Yuxin continued.
"And my wife, Yubing."
The woman froze.
Her eyes widened.
"Wife?"
Su Yubing gave Mo Yuxin an amused look.
"What?"
"Nothing."
The woman looked between them, clearly surprised, then bowed again.
"I understand. Thank you, Senior Yuxin. Thank you, Senior Yubing."
They continued their journey.
Behind them, the Ghostfire Sect’s eldest disciple was still kneeling.
He had already made up his mind to report the incident.
Unfortunately for him, the more powerful elders of the Ghostfire Sect would later hear the story and immediately tell him not to provoke the two strangers.
At least one person in that sect still possessed common sense.
The road remained peaceful for the next two days.
They passed through several towns, crossed a wide river on a spiritual boat, and spent one night in a small village famous for its honey cakes.
Mo Yuxin bought twenty.
Su Yubing looked at the bag.
"Twenty?"
"They are good."
"We cannot possibly finish twenty."
"I can."
Su Yubing laughed.
"You are acting like a child."
"Then feed me one."
"There are people watching."
"So?"
"You do not care at all."
"Why should I care?"
Su Yubing looked around the village.
A few people were indeed staring.
She sighed and opened the bag.
"Come here."
Mo Yuxin immediately leaned over.
Su Yubing held out a honey cake.
Mo Yuxin ate it.
"Good?"
"Very."
"Another?"
"Yes."
Su Yubing fed her another.
A little boy nearby whispered to his mother, "Mama, those two aunties are really affectionate."
His mother smiled.
"Yes. They look very happy."
Mo Yuxin heard it.
She smiled.
Su Yubing pretended not to notice.
That night, they stayed at a small inn.
They paid for one room.
The innkeeper looked at them, then at their clothes, and quietly gave them the best room without asking any questions.
Mo Yuxin closed the door.
Su Yubing walked to the window.
Outside, the village was quiet.
The moon was reflected in a river beyond the fields.
Mo Yuxin came up behind her and wrapped both arms around her waist.
Su Yubing leaned back against her.
"Tired?"
"Not at all."
"Then why are you holding me?"
"Because you are here."
Su Yubing smiled.
"That is becoming your answer to everything."
"It is a good answer."
