The treehouses were very important to the forest elves. Walker had also been very amazed when he first saw them.

The methods in which they grew these things over years with their magic fueling their direction was a craft all within its own right. Besides that, there was the fact that more and more chances to adjust them came as the tree itself grew.

It was why the forest elves’ oldest treehouses were very high up and spanned multiple trees being larger and larger. The grand hall that the forest elf queen primarily lived in and held court in was also an example of this since it was very large. That tree being one of the oldest in the entire forest.

However, Walker knew that the elves had split causing them to value different houses over the years.

The water elves would build homes of stone and grow seaweeds in them so that they could remain underwater at all times. Their innate affinity with water allowing them to breathe that water itself just the same as the merfolk. A perfect example of why they got along so well.

The fire elves easily lived in obsidian stone homes that they shaped from the heat softened magma, although, they had lost a lot of the skills to craft it due to the decline in their people after many years. Therefore, that craft was returning with the help of the fire dragons and fire dragonkin.

The wind elves were few, they had partially gone extinct, making the fact that a few travelers appearing was amazing already. So as far as he could tell they had been nomadic for years.

The ice related elves or glacial elves would make homes of toughened magical ice they formed themselves over years. An innate talent that did not necessarily mean they could control ice as they wished in combat.

The earth and the dark elves though, well they had lived in caverns.

They had carved out caves because they isolated themselves and grew together while cut off from the world. Something that forced them to learn more and more about how they could live safely.

The stone elves as they had been known as before coming to Genesis and taking on a more general term earth elves, were often carving in to the earth. However, they used magic and self made tools that did not involve forging but magic.

The tools had been similar to how some elemental blacksmiths worked so it had been interesting to the dwarven race but not astounding since the dwarves always focused on crafting and had better metal tools they created. Let alone the fact that they could work together in competition so the earth elves and dwarves saw one another as two of the same coin in the best of terms.

The dark elves had been interesting.

Walker had heard that they had mushrooms that could grow in to homes but over the years of living with the earth elves, that was less necessary. Not to mention that the lack of mana in the world did not allow the mushrooms to grow to the same size. The cost was also higher on the dark elf needing to provide that mushroom species with more and more of their mana, which eventually just didn’t add up to enough to allow for them to easily survive and thrive.

Now, the dark elves had that mana though. They also had the assistance of potions that could nourish the area around the mushrooms along with farmers who focused on mushrooms themselves.

While the dark elves had grown mushrooms in isolation with the earth elves, they still got beaten many times over by the demi-human farms who took their knowledge and ran with it to new heights.

Therefore, the mushroom homes were larger and more popular.

Walker saw that instantly as he entered the underground and got to the residential areas not made of supported metal, carved stone, and for the basic day to day jobs everyone needed in the city below the main city.

Plenty of races who preferred the dark remained down here in the dim lighting along with various hard workers looking to delve in to the mines and take the long underground road to the dwarven city.

Not to mention many who worked to expand the caves or explore newly found caverns. Many were also working on the underground sections of the academy. The progress there was leaps and bounds every day since many people wished to send students there to have a major chance at becoming leaders of Genesis in the future.

This is one of the most popular inedible mushrooms. Its skill develops very toughly due to the dark mana condensing its meat constantly. As such, it requires a larger amount of dark mana to break down stone and earth around it and absorb nutrients. However, in dark mana dense environments it grows larger and can even be guided by careful crafting and magic.

It can easily be cut and heal itself allowing for it to be easily shaped. Some are even said to be familiar with dark elves who live in them for an entire lifetime. This is mostly a rumor unless they have a unique class related to mushrooms.

As these mushrooms are not toxic, they are considered very useful, at times, they have even been used as materials for armors, protective passing, and even beekeeping suits to protect beekeepers.

They nearly went extinct due to the fading dark mana over generations, however, as the world has returned to flow they have begun to grow larger and more prolific. They even have unique hybrids used to create tougher foods for others...’

He was impressed to see the thick skin mushrooms. The size was larger than a house and the deep brown and purple mushroom cap was a perfectly domed roof.

He saw the note about hybrids and knew that was exactly what Alma had been thinking about. Not these tough skinned mushrooms. They were known and finally returned to mass use within the caverns as safe homes and more natural homes than gathering materials for building.

That did not change how impressed he was with the fact that these had been grown and were being used. It felt like they grew quickly when they were cared for properly. They were also perfect for starting off a nice home that could grow with the family being made, not to mention, then if they wanted to leave, they could just cut it down and sell it as a material to be able to make extra gold coins. Leaving the land available for the next person who purchased it.

Adding on the fact that as he walked he saw many had been customized for the uses of those living there, Walker felt the same joy learning about these mushroom homes as he had when he saw the forest elf treehouses too.

It was generally just amazing that races out in the world had found different ways to make homes that were safe and secure. Besides just finding simple caves or building with cut wood or stone. The methods and uniqueness of everyone within the Genesis alliance would never fade for him.

When he got a whiff of sharp earth, Walker realized the had come to the edges of the residential area. The exact place where hybrids were being tested and what mushroom homes might look like in the future.

However, he was not impressed to find that many were rotting, some were prickly looking, and others might be entirely made of poisonous spores.

This was the side of experimenting and crossbreeding that many people would not see. The dangers that came with it were too high sometimes.

He also spotted a few echidna and dwarves helping move some failed attempts. This proved that it was not just the earth elves and dark elves looking to grow better homes.

He did notice that some varieties of edible mushrooms were being tested nearby. Proof that the goal to make a new home was not in making it dangerous or protective. That there was a hope people could consume the home itself and be able to take weight off the coin purse on their hips.

The idea that someone could harvest part of their homes for food was exactly what the forest elves did. They had larger apple trees or other fruit trees grown in to treehouses so that they could have a seasonal harvest. It worked well for them and kept them closer to nature.

The mushrooms were a challenge since many were soft or dangerous if consumed in the wrong way. Or they had spores that were dangerous. There were other reasons as well, but first, Walker found someone who looked a little more scholarly, the papers and scrolls on their hips proved they might have better insight on the progress here.
