Chapter 39: Little Awkward
Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Little Awkward
Inside Wakanda’s energy shield...
"Yeah!"
Cheers erupted across the plaza.
Having survived the meteor scare, the Wakandans immediately broke into celebration.
Singing, dancing, and laughter filled the square.
"Wakanda Forever!" someone shouted.
"Wakanda Forever!"
The entire plaza turned into a giant dance floor.
Unfortunately, their dancing wasn’t exactly synchronized.
Compared to the perfectly coordinated group dances, they still had some room for improvement.
King T’Chaka stood nearby, smiling as he watched the festivities.
A warm feeling rose in his heart.
’This is my country.’
’How wonderful.’
Carol, however, wasn’t participating in the celebration.
Instead, she was staring at the energy shield overhead with a puzzled expression.
Ever since receiving her enhancement, her eyesight had improved dramatically.
’Is there... someone on the shield?’
The longer she looked, the more convinced she became.
’That’s definitely a person!’
T’Chaka soon noticed her unusual behavior.
"Carol, what’s wrong?"
"Look."
She pointed upward.
Following her finger, T’Chaka looked toward the sky.
Unfortunately, age had caught up with him.
His eyesight wasn’t what it used to be.
All he could make out was a small dark dot.
"Oh," he said with a chuckle. "That’s probably a piece of meteorite debris."
"No."
Carol shook her head.
"That’s a person."
"Really?"
T’Chaka sounded doubtful.
"I’m sure of it."
Carol narrowed her eyes.
"That’s definitely a person."
At that moment, T’Challa overheard their conversation and looked up as well.
A few seconds later, his eyes widened.
"Father, Carol’s right."
"There really is someone up there."
Thanks to the Heart-Shaped Herb enhancement, T’Challa’s vision was also far sharper than that of ordinary humans.
T’Chaka immediately believed them.
The problem was that he still couldn’t see clearly.
His gaze shifted toward the captain of the guard.
The captain instantly understood what the king wanted.
Without needing to be told, he handed over a pair of binoculars.
T’Chaka nodded approvingly and accepted them.
Now, finally, he could see.
In fact, he could see even more clearly than Carol and T’Challa.
The first thing that entered his view was a red cape fluttering gently in the wind.
’That cape looks familiar...’
A strange feeling surfaced in his mind.
He adjusted the binoculars slightly and focused on the face pressed against the shield.
The moment he saw it, his eyes nearly popped out.
"Isn’t that Daniel?!"
T’Chaka immediately lowered the binoculars.
"Open that section of the shield."
He pointed directly at the spot where Daniel was stuck.
The captain hesitated.
But he still obeyed.
"That’s Daniel," T’Chaka explained.
"Daniel?"
Carol reacted instantly.
"The person up there is Daniel?"
"That’s right."
...
At that moment, Daniel was feeling extremely awkward.
He had just decided to get up and quietly escape.
’They probably haven’t noticed me yet.’
’If they see me, this will be way too embarrassing!’
This wasn’t how the script was supposed to go.
Something had clearly gone wrong.
Had he entered the wrong movie?
How had Wakanda reacted so quickly?
Knowing how advanced Wakandan technology was, Daniel had deliberately increased the meteorite’s speed to make it look more threatening.
He thought that would guarantee a dramatic entrance.
Yet Wakanda still detected it and blasted it apart.
"My chance to show off..."
"My beautiful moment..."
"It’s gone!"
Daniel wailed internally.
The feeling was like picking Yasuo in a game, seeing a massive wave of minions approaching, preparing to dash through all of them...
Only to discover that the E key had suddenly stopped working.
It hurt.
It really hurt.
Just as Daniel was about to push himself off the shield.
A section of the barrier opened beneath him.
Caught completely off guard, he immediately dropped through the opening.
Daniel froze.
"Huh?"
"What just happened?"
His brain stopped working for several seconds.
About ten seconds later...
BOOM!
He smashed into the plaza below, leaving a sizable crater.
The dancing Wakandans jumped in fright.
Then curiosity took over.
One after another, people gathered around the crater to see what had fallen from the sky.
Meanwhile, Daniel lay flat at the bottom of the crater, questioning his life choices.
He seriously considered playing dead.
This was just too humiliating.
"Move aside. Move aside."
Carol pushed through the crowd.
T’Chaka and T’Challa followed close behind.
When Carol reached the edge of the crater and looked down, she immediately confirmed the identity of the person lying there.
It was Daniel.
Without question.
"Get up."
Her voice was cold.
Before seeing him, she had been worried.
Now that she had found him, she was very angry.
Daniel had vanished without saying anything and disappeared for an entire night.
How could she not be upset?
She knew perfectly well that his body was practically indestructible.
A fall like this couldn’t possibly hurt him.
Hearing Carol’s voice, Daniel knew there was no point pretending anymore.
"Morning, Carol."
He quickly put on what he believed to be the cutest and most innocent expression possible.
Then he looked up at her hopefully.
Carol said nothing.
She simply stared at him.
The longer she stared, the more uncomfortable Daniel felt.
Thankfully, King T’Chaka stepped in to save him.
"Daniel, why exactly did you fall out of the sky?"
The king extended a hand.
"Come on, get up. Let’s talk inside."
With that, he helped Daniel out of the crater.
The group soon returned to the royal palace.
The moment everyone sat down.
"Explain."
Carol got straight to the point.
"Where did you go?"
"Space."
Daniel answered sheepishly.
"I just got the new suit, and I was excited. I wanted to experience flying at full speed."
"Then before I knew it... I’d flown off Earth."
"With your speed?" Carol said flatly.
"You expect me to believe it took you an entire night just to leave Earth?"
"Of course not!"
Daniel immediately raised his voice.
Carol questioning his speed was unacceptable.
Three seconds.
That’s all he’d need.
"Hm?"
Carol’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Daniel instantly lowered his volume.
"After leaving Earth, I decided to visit the Sun."
"I spent a little over an hour flying there."
"Then..."
He scratched his cheek awkwardly.
"The sunlight made me sleepy."
"So, I accidentally fell asleep."
As he spoke, Daniel carefully watched Carol’s expression.
He genuinely hadn’t expected to be gone for that long.
He thought he’d miss dinner at worst.
Instead, he returned to discover an entire night had passed.
Carol knew sunlight made him stronger.
The Wakandan royal family, however, did not.
The three of them stared at him in shock.
The king was the first to recover.
"You mean..."
"You went to the Sun?"
"Yeah."
Daniel nodded.
"I even took a nap inside it."
"I didn’t go into the core, though."
"That looked a little dangerous."
Daniel answered casually.
T’Chaka "..."
T’Challa "..."
The Queen "..."
All three of them had exactly the same thought.
’Is he even human?’
"This is unbelievable."
T’Chaka couldn’t help exclaiming.
"You entered the Sun and came back completely unharmed?"
Silently, he raised his estimation of Daniel’s strength by another ten levels.
At the same time, he became even more determined to maintain a good relationship with him.
This wasn’t just a powerful ally, this was an individual worth holding onto for your life.
"So you slept inside the Sun..."
Carol crossed her arms.
"And then came straight back?"
"No."
Daniel shook his head.
"On the way back, I stopped by Mercury."
"Then I visited Venus."
"And I took a bath inside a volcano."
The more he talked, the more excited he became.
"I’m telling you, space is amazing. There are so many interesting things out there..."
At this point, the royal family had become completely numb.
Nothing Daniel said could shock them anymore.
Even if he suddenly claimed he’d punched a planet in half, they probably wouldn’t blink.
Just as Daniel was preparing to continue his enthusiastic description of his adventures...he noticed something.
Carol’s expression was getting darker and darker.
A sense of danger immediately filled his heart.
Then inspiration struck.
"Right!"
Daniel suddenly clapped his hands.
"I brought you a gift."
He quickly pulled out the meteorite fragment he had collected on Mercury and handed it to her.
"Straight from Mercury."
"Sounds cool, doesn’t it?"
"I’ll have it polished into a necklace later."
"You can wear it."
Only then did Carol’s expression soften slightly.
Seeing the storm clouds beginning to clear, Daniel secretly praised himself.
’That was close.’
’Good thing I reacted fast enough.’
Sweat practically formed on his forehead as he silently congratulated himself for surviving another disaster.
